Today’s snort-worthy quote
From the Washington Post this morning on a story about Senator James Webb (D-VA) who switched parties to run for the Senate and play drama queen in the Oval Office;
But Webb has never been one to rely on polls or political indicators to guide his way.
From the same article, another reason to rescind the 17th Amendment;
He seems instead to charge ahead on projects that he has decided are worthy of his time, regardless of how they play — or even whether they represent the priorities of the state he represents.
Funny but a Senator is supposed to represent the priorities of their State – it’s the whole reason every State gets two Senators. We should go back to the good old days and have Senators selected by their State legislatures and let the House of Representatives be the representatives of the voters instead of a 100 arrogant princes strutting around snorting down their collective nose at us.
And while we’re dreaming, we can end their retirement program – no one in public office should be encouraged to make a career out of it. They’d term limit themselves.

I have to confess, I soured on Webb since finding out just how much he hated female soldiers, but he did bring to us a pretty awesome GI Bill, so I forgive him a lot.
Va had a choice between a gentleman and an idiot. They chose the idiot. Live with it. The GI Bill was not a Webb thing. He hijacked it and got/put his name on it. Vet benefits have been increasing ‘rapidly’ since 2001. Millions who could get nothing now get full benefits, all to the credit of GWB. Live and learn. I expect less benefits from a dhimmi led government. I’m service connected disabled but haven’t used the approved medical benefits one time since their approval in 1980. It’s been so long I now have to submit an application to get my name back in the system.
Besides the “D” in front of his name what don’t you like about him?
It seems a little ironic for someone who sits at home all day blogging while collecting a Govt pension should come out and argue against someone else getting one. But then again, irony is your strong suit isn’t it, Jonn?
Jonn wrote: So you think elected officials should make a career of it?
Whoa, Jonn….you are the last person I’d expect to see disagree with a lifetime of public service (given your background).
Isn’t calling for an end to the retirement program (and term limits) essentially risking the end of your own retirement program? The two-party system has all but insured a generous benefits package for all of those who have served “in the public interest” … can you really fault those seeking to feather their own nest?
As for me, I don’t know which side to take in this matter. Watching two career statists fight over who should be allowed access to benefits is like watching Raytheon and Lockheed Martin fight over a defense contract. There’s plenty of money for all those seeking space at the public trough. Ha!
And what exactly about this quote do you object to? It sounds exactly like how someone would describe a different “Mavericky” veteran you might know of.
So you think elected officials should make a career of it?- No. But arguing whatever side suits your agenda at the time is weak. You chide Obama for his inexperience when compared to the career politician McCain on one hand, but then criticize these “lifers” on the other. Again- irony.
Rooney- for starters, I don’t like that he meets with Code Pink, and yet sends out staffers to meet with Afghan and Iraq vets. I also hate that he spent his first 2 years on the Armed Services Committee, and in 7 hearings I went to, he was present for 22% of the time the hearing was in session. And he still has refused to respond to me about what was so vital that he missed those meetings. Including one about the effect of the GI Bill on recruiting and retention in which the Undersecretary was there to answer his questions.
George Allen Jr. was a silver spooned kid who never served.Jim Webb was a Marine infantry officer awarded the Navy Cross and Silver Star for combat heroism in V.N. as well as two Purple Hearts. His father was a career Air Force Officer, his son a Marine enlisted man who has served in Iraq.Webb is a best selling author, was Navy Secretary under Reagan and has held a union card.Scrappy if that’s your definition of an idiot I’d like to know your heros.
TSO: I don’t know what you’re talking about (Webb not meeting with vets). He shook my hand and we talked about his son a little bit.
Yeah, well I met with him too. I spent a bunch of time alone with him. But, that was due to my job, I still want to know why he won’t meet with VFF.
Hell, you aren’t even a constituent and he will meet with you since you oppose the war. Call up again and tell them yuo want to talk about the positive things you saw and see if they don’t give you some staffer to talk to.
But AS, he probably met with you since you were being borne on a throne by pink clad grannies.
TSO,
In a pseudo-defense of Webb, I have a good relationship with his MLA. VFF’s talked to him a couple of times.
Richard Wheeler- I like your independent / “outside the of the box” comments. But didn’t you know he has a “D” instead of an “R” in front of his name? Unfortunately it’s as simple as that for many people.
They’d better learn to love it.As I’ve been saying, there will be alot more “D’s” than “R’s” around in the coming years.Repub bloggers know they have brought this on themselves.
RW- but you know they will have a lot more fun bitching and throwing darts at the “Ds” than they did having to defend all the failures of the last 8 years. Limbaugh, Hannity, O’Rielly, etc, etc, will have a field day. I’ll bet they actually secretly cheered as the Democrats went on to whoop ass in the elections– they’ll be wealthier men because of it…
Yeah, FNZ, that’s how capitalism works, at least for the near future. Put out a product that people want, to listen to, to watch, to buy, and they’ll do it. And, last I checked, we ended up with the Fannie/Freddie mess, which led to everything else, because of Dodd, Frank, Obama and others, none of whom had an R anywhere near their name.

Let’s try this then… The Pampered Princes on the Potomac need to better reflect their constituents. If your analysis is correct the past 8 years simply falls in the lap of the congressritters, regardless of party affiliation. They allowed stuff to happen!
Name one who resigned over disagreements with Bush?

I find it quite telling that the lefty commentators were the ones who brought politics into the discussion here. TSO was objecting to the fact that Webb met with the moonbats of Code Pink, the same treasonous biotches who tried to run the Marines out of Berkeley.
From Townhall.com- Vets vs. Code Pink: Class and Trash Clash on the Hill
Bellavia recounted a story of a visit to Sen. Jim Webb’s (D-Va.) office in which Webb assured the vets they were “on the same team” because of Webb’s military history and support of veteran legislation. While he was talking, troops noticed a large, prominently placed thank-you card from Code Pink on Webb’s desk
David Bellavia lives just down the road from me in Batavia, NY. He’s a war hero and a nominee for the CMO. I’ll trust Bellavia’s word over the moonbats and those who cater to moonbats.
Richard Wheeler,
You forgot to mention Webb’s kiddie porn storylines.
Raoul It’s a novel man.You probably think Peter Pan is child porn or Allen didn’t know what he meant when he called Webb staffer “macaca”.
I respect Webb’s courage as a Marine Officer, but when he quit as Secretary of the Navy in a hissy fit, I lost respect for him in a civilian position. His behavior since has been wanting and became worse when running to become a Senator. Many brave men have proven to be lesser men as politicians… such as Duke Cunningham and George McGovern.
richard wheeler,
“Raoul It’s a novel man.You probably think Peter Pan is child porn..”
So richard wheeler, how often do you have a child’s penis in your mouth that you consider it no worse than Peter Pan?
That is Webb’s fantasy world. Obvioulsy you hvae no problem with it.
Raoul I’ll stand with the majority of voters in the great Commonwealth of Virginia who obviously don’t believe Webb is into “kiddie porn” and who like a vast majority of American voters are tired of right wing slander and are voting out Repubs.who do so(like George Allen Jr. former Conservative Va.Sen.who slandered Webb and got beat)
Yat Yen Cunningham pleaded guilty to accepting 2.4 million in bribes. What illegal acts did McGovern or Webb engage in?
RV- Yeah, I was with Bellavia on that trip.
He and I giggled for days about the card. Pretty much encapsulated the meeting.
TSO- That had to be bizarre seeing that card on his desk. Didn’t Webb know what Code Pink was trying to do to the Marines in Berkeley? Why would he even be helping them?
Benedict Arnold was a highly-respected and decorated officer in the service of his country once too.
Actually I met with Webb before I was a member of IVAW. My first entry into the political fray was taking some leave and going to DC to visit every member of the Armed Services Committee and just about anyone who dealt with the military, to talk about how the GI bill was insufficient and needed to be improved. This was in 2006, I believe? I could be wrong. Anyway, one of the senators mentioned that Webb was working on something and I should go over there and talk about the issue.
Also, TSO, please to name the last time I worked with Code Pink.
