Larry Rodriguez; PTSD made him kill a hooker
Shane sends us a link from Philly.com about Larry Rodriguez, who claims to be a veteran. He murdered a hooker, Sonya Lewis, in 2012 by strangling her. Of course, it was the PTSD that made him do it – not the fact that he smoked cracked and abused alcohol;
A nine-year Army veteran who said he suffers from service-related post-traumatic stress disorder was sentenced Tuesday to 18 to 36 years in prison for strangling a woman in 2012 during a night fueled by drink and crack cocaine.
Philadelphia Common Pleas Court Judge Rose Marie DeFino-Nastasi told Larry Rodriguez that although officials were not able to access his military records, she did not doubt he suffered from PTSD.
But DeFino-Nastasi said it was equally clear Rodriguez knew he became very violent when using alcohol and crack, because in 2008 he tried to strangle his mother.
So let me get this straight; the court can’t get his military records, so they’re taking his word that he is a nine-year veteran? Folks, military records aren’t classified. If you can’t get his records, he probably doesn’t have any records – he probably didn’t serve. Aren’t there any veterans in the Philadelphia judicial system who can tell the judge that discharge records aren’t classified?
[Rodriguez’ Defense attorney Joseph J. Valvo] argued that Rodriguez’s problems resulted from PTSD from being near an explosion in dIraq.
Yeah, that explosion makes him strangle women. Thousands of veterans of the Iraq War didn’t strangle any women yesterday, even though they were “near an explosion”.
Category: Dumbass Bullshit
Somebody needs to explain what “Justice is blind.” means to this judge. I think her understanding is a bit skewed.
I hope there is a lot of pain in this maggot’s future.
And I hope the judge gets a dose of reality.
What kind of explosion?
Some guy in the shop had a leftover Guiness and broccoli explosion that is probably going to give me teh PTSD.
But I pretty sure that won’t cause me to kill anyone.
the Muffin-man made me do it LMAO !!!!!
That’s funny, I’ve been near several explosions and have never felt the urge to strangle a hooker while hopped up on crack and booze.
Near an explosion? NEAR?
I was in 8 direct-to-vehicle IED’s in Muqdadiya, plus a dismounted-patrol, double-stacked AT mine.
I’ve never strangled anyone.
Oh yeah, and many, many, many mortars, rockets, and a few RPG’s.
Although I’d like to strangle this guy.
Wait, you can strangle people if you were near an explosion in Iraq?
SWEET!
Is it a by explosion basis? So if I was, say, 10 explosions I get to strangle 10 people? If that’s the case than a formerly deployed Infantry Platoon could clean up Capitol Hill in about an hour.
On the bright side, at least this judge had the common sense to give the bastard 16-to-36 hard time rather than 5 years probation. Some don’t.

I’m sure some folks in my profession like the opportunity to blame George W. Bush for their clients’ street crimes. I’m very glad this judge didn’t play that game, or at least not all the way.
The most interesting part of the story is near the end:
Shver, however, said those same records don’t corroborate his military experiences, disagree about in which branch Rodriguez served, and note some VA doctors believed he was malingering to avoid discharge from the hospital.
Shver said records show that in Rodriguez’s dealings with female nurses, “he has a problem with women and a problem with being disrespected.”
I’ve seen those symptoms all right, but not from PTSD.
Gee. So it seems here we appear to have someone who lied about their military record to lessen a potential criminal sentence.
Now, where have we seen that before? Maybe
http://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=48212
(along with many other times), perhaps?
And may every day of his sentence include having to BEND OVER AND PICK UP THE SOAP for everyone in his cell block after Bubba & Thor are done with him.
Dude is going to be snarfing down a lot of cockmeat sammiches (with extra manmayo) and and tube steak (smothered in underwear) during his time in the state “pound him in the ass” prison.
Someone needs to come up with a vaccine for teh PTSD that these assclowns come down with…
I was near explosions in Iraq, what do I win ?
We built a smoke bomb at the Shop in Cubi Pt.
Didn’t work very well but I should be OK to poke at someone with a pointy stick, right.
I can just imagine this fool running loose on the evening of July 4th. Now I know why the streets are absent of hookers in his home town on that night. Accordingly, on the same day, the sale of hand lotion spirals. Whodathunkit?
The struggle is real. Track Palin got drunk and committed domestic violence because of PTSD/Military Service. It’s Obama’s fault. Just ask Sarah. It’s not like that family ever got into drunken fights before…er….wait. Yeah. It’s Bush’s fault.
I was on that deployment with Track Palin. He was on the BDE Commanders PSD. Not much happened that whole year. I don’t remember the Brigade TAC ever being in contact during that deployment.
Thank you. It’s good to know the truth. Which makes it even worse that the PTSD card being thrown by his momma to cover drunken bad behavior. (perhaps learned at home?)
Right; because we all know that alcohol is never used/abused, or as the kids today say “self medicating”, by anyone with PTS. I get it; you hate the Palins, but don’t pretend that someone with PTS won’t hide inside the bottle.
Not discounting what you had to say about alcohol and PTS, but Palin is out of line laying the blame of her son’s behavior on PTS and Obama….and I’m no fan of Obama.
I don’t disagree that she was out of line, however, it was her, not her son, that made the statement.
“but don’t pretend that someone with PTS won’t hide inside the bottle.”
I didn’t say that. I believe you missed the point.
I was next to the ASP in Soui Da in ’67 when it blew (and I have the pictures to prove it). All that made me was damn lucky and happy to be alive. Funny, that never made me want to kill anyone, not even those sneaky VC bastards. Thast urge would come later for other reasons.
Maybe he can get Sarah Palin to speak on his behalf like she did for her son. I’m surprised that isn’t an article on this site.
Justice is not only blind, but unable to fill out an SF-180.
You guys had it easy.
I’ve had to deal with explosions coming through the air vents after my cat has used the catbox. 15 long years of it, no matter what he eats. It’s even worse in the middle of the night, when he snores and farts at the same time.
It’s hell on Earth, I tell you!
Mrs Dennis – not chevy has a cat that wilts the flowers in the wall paper. The cat is getting old and I will miss her; because, who else will I blame in the middle of the night?
Sarah Palin just invoked PTSD as the reason that her son was involved in domestic violence.

Sorry, just saw that it was brought up by another poster.
I’m offended…
I saw that to on the news this afternoon. she should have said alcohol and more alcohol plus piss poor judgment, plus a out of control hood rat LMFAO !!!!!!
Stories say she didn’t actually mention the arrest —
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2016/01/20/sarah-palin-son-track-palin-charged-with-domestic-violence/79059664/#cx_ab_test_id=21&cx_ab_test_variant=cx_trend&cx_art_pos=4&cx_navSource=arttop&cx_tag=trend&cx_rec_type=trend&cx_ctrl_comp_grp=false&cxrecs_s
…so they’re saying she “appeared to suggest” the PTSD had something to do with the arrest, rather than that she said it. I suspect she won’t be saying anything to prejudice his case while it’s pending so it may be a while before she clarifies.
I don’t hang out with crack heads, so I would not know!
I do however hang out with some friends and others that I meet who either have PTS and or TBI.
And guess what, not of them murdered a hooker by strangulation!
But what do I know …
insert: one
Word ^^^^^^
I am a nine year vet, been out for seven years, and suffer from PTSD. Last time I checked, I haven’t strangled any hookers recently.
Where the fuck is “diraq”?
