Obama criticizes aides for not communicating strategy against ISIS

| January 1, 2016

The Washington Post reports that, on their trip back from Asia in November, the President “scolded” his staff because they aren’t communicating well enough to the American public about the White House strategy in regards to battling ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

Throughout the nine-day trip, which had begun less than 24 hours after the terrorist attacks in Paris, he had listened to critics at home and abroad charge that he had no coherent game plan. Some had even suggested that France, with tough talk and a series of retaliatory air strikes, was now leading the anti-terrorism fight.

The message they had received on the road was “jarring,” said a senior administration official who was on the flight. The problem wasn’t the strategy, they agreed. That “was clear to all of us, sitting in the Sit[uation] Room, in briefings every day. We all know what we are doing.”

What they needed was to do a better job of explaining it. Obama ordered what the official called an “uptick in our communications tempo.”

Well that’s odd, because the President’s staff kept us informed about the President’s vacation and even his appearance on Jerry Seinfeld’s show. And, since it’s been more than a month since their “scolding” I haven’t heard anything that makes the strategy more clear.

Apparently, the president had been watching news programs in Asia that weren’t members of the fawning American press and those programs made it appear that France had taken the lead against ISIS, well, I don’t have that impression, because I don’t see anyone taking the lead against ISIS. i watched his little talk to us a few weeks ago to explain his strategy and I didn’t know anything after he was done that I didn’t already know before he began.

The last time I checked, the President’s sole job is to be the face of American policy, not some bunch of lowly perfumed aides. Maybe no one has been able to unravel the President’s strategy in Iraq and Syria because we’re all so confused about the myriad of other things that the President has seemed to put ahead of the most dangerous and important national security and existential issue of our time. He’s more worried about how he’s going to disarm Americans at home than destroying the scum of ISIS. He’s more concerned about shoving that non-proliferation pact with Iran shoved down out throats. He wants to shut down Guantanamo more than he wants to shut down ISIS. The social justice warriors have his attention on women in combat, transgender troops, gays in the military than the Pentagon’s commanders have his attention. His aides all have the talking points on climate change being a national security issue, but they are more concerned about what to call ISIS, ISIL or “daesh” than how to fight the enemy. He should be leading the country, but he’s just reacting to whatever social issue dominates the news on a given day. But, you know, when Jerry Seinfeld calls, he picks up the phone.

A null message or random noise is very difficult to communicate.

“Stradegy”? What Stradegy? those suckers can’t spell stradegy!!

IDC SARC

and remember…Hope is not a strategy.

Bobo

“No challenge — no challenge — poses a greater threat to future generations than climate change.” Obama’s 2015 State of the Union.

I haven’t heard anything as decisive as that come out of him or his staff about ISIS. If he’s having a problem with his staff’s inability to articulate a strategy, maybe it’s time that he do it himself. You know, like a leader.

Hondo

One has to have a strategy to communicate same, Bobo.

GDContractor

Kinda hard to get the word out about ISIS when all I have ever heard him refer to is ISIL. DOH!

Ex-PH2

Wait – WHAT? There’s a strategy on ISIS?

Where? I swear, I’ve been digging through my backlog of drivel and haven’t found one of those strategy things yet. Nope, not even a reference to it. Maybe it’s in a shoebox. I’ll look there.

Nope, nothing there but my shoes.

EX…Check the kitchen junk drawer..found lots of stuff I thought was MIA…

Brown Neck Gaitor

He does have a strategy:

Delay taking action, minimize the threat through words and hope he gets out of office before 9/11 part II.

John S.

He must get quite a workout dodging responsibility and pushing the blame on others.

Obama criticizes…again and again and again

Whenever this klowne starts talking I already know what it will be…
Some other POS warning about something that has no bearing on anything except his legacy as the messiah he still believes himself to be…
The destruction this man has wrought onto America is the stuff that wars are made of.
And that is what worries me…
I am not afraid of ISIS or any other terrorist, I am more worried about what he has cooked up in his little book of regulations and executive orders that are clearly unconstitutional.
I only hope that America is so sick of liberalism and all the tenets of that mental defect that they are driven from the halls of our government, universities, grade and grammar schools and local governments.
It is long past the time for tar and feathers.
Milo Yiannopoulos has a great article on the war against the SJW’s coming to the internet this year. I hope that it is a peaceful war or at least a war without shooting. Nobody wins in that kind of war and we all know it here at TAH.
Please read it, it will make you feel better about the shape this country really is in.

I just followed your link and read that. Total awesomeness. I kept comparing his conclusions to a singular SJW who posts here and will not go away. Lars, if you see this, click on the link and read it. You will then understand why no one likes you (C. Long excepted)…also, why you are unemployed.

Milo, if you see this, lunch at chik-fil-a buddy, on me.

Thunderstixx, I understand your concerns and I shared them eight years ago. (Has it been THAT long? Holy cow!) But I would like to remind you that this incompetent ass sitting in the Oval Office has literally had the job handed to him on a platter and has done nothing but waste taxpayers’ time and money with ridiculous excuses for not getting anything done.

Not once in the past SEVEN years has he done anything but piss people off. The most recent episode of that at a national level was 2013, when he decided to shut down ALL national parks with no warning, even if organizations had plans in place and reservations made at the time. All he has done for the past seven long years is let everyone in the entire world know what an incompetent ass he is.

He’s had every chance to make a bully like Vlad Putin quake in his boots. Instead, Putin hears the name ‘oblowme’ and starts laughing.

He doesn’t even have enough interest in his own ‘legacy’ to go to Chicago and make pitches for his ‘library’, which will apparently be built whether people want it or not.

He just doesn’t give a crap about the job, never did, and never will. That was obvious from the start. It was just his chance to be on TV, and most of the audience has left the building long since.

While your concerns have some justification, I would like to remind you that at some point in the late 1960s, Richard Nixon wanted to declare martial law because of war protests and SoS Al Hague stopped him.

I don’t think he actually gives a damn, and can’t wait to bail out of there. I’m guessing about this, but I would not be even slightly surprised if he left for Hawaii before the end of this term in office, and left Biden in charge of things for a few weeks.

MustangCryppie

I am praying for an epic spanking of the Democrats in November. Praying HARD.

Andy11M

Wait…..we have a clear defined strategy for fighting ISIS?

Hondo

No. Strategy is defined as “a careful plan or method for achieving a particular goal usually over a long period of time”. A lack of any coherent plan to deal with a problem, or ignoring the problem entirely in the hope that it will “go away”, does not constitute a strategy. Rather, that is called “abdication of responsibility” or “dereliction of duty” on the part of leadership.

nbcguy54ACTUAL

Clear, Defined and Strategy are not words that this administration has ever used, either together or separately.

sj

Why would you need a strategery to defeat a JV team?

UpNorth

Indeed, after all, they are contained.

With respect to the Daesh, he follows the advice of the Muslim Brotherhood. That was visible all the way to Egypt. The Egyptians warned him against supporting terrorists, and he ignored them.

If the impact of his actions is visible from that far away, I would hazard a guess that communication is not the problem.

PS. I have monitored a few Twitter and news feeds from Egypt: they follow anything any US Representative, Senator, or administration spokes person says about the Middle East, plus an awful lot of US magazine articles. This is in contrast to all the prattle from Iran, which they ignore.

Green Thumb

I am surprised he did not blame George Bush.

Blaster

i think his strategy is and has been to sit on his (our) hands until time to pop smoke and the it will be the next guys problem to deal with.

Sort of like it happens with Clinton. Bush was inaugurated and 9/11 happens 8 months later .

Blaster

“Then” and “happened”…….. Using a phone for this sucks.

Hondo

One significant difference, Blaster.

Clintoon in fact had a strategy for dealing with radical Islamic terrorism. He and his Administration treated it as a routine LE matter and acted accordingly. The strategy was naive, flawed, and doomed to fail – but it existed.

In contrast, I’m not sure this current gang of inept tools and feckless fools screwing up by-the-numbers in DC Administration even realizes that radical Islamic terrorism directed against US interests is a threat – much less has a strategy to counter same. They certainly haven’t exhibited any behavior evidencing a coherent, thought-out strategy for countering the threat posed by Da’esh, al Qaeda, or any other form of terrorism directed against US interests worldwide.

Blaster

agreed. I just meant that the new CiC will get to deal with everything that this one kicks down the road.

Open Channel D

Feckless. Thy name is Obama.

Maybe he should watch Homeland on Showtime:
