I’m sure you guys have seen it but I think the details are worth mentioning. The SUV that they used was rented and had out of state plates. Also they apparently spent the hours previous to the attack trying to eliminate their digital footprint. I am no law enforcement guy, but to me these two details would tend to indicate that the holiday party was not a target of opportunity.

There was talk of 3 perps during the day. Did they eliminate that possibility? Just curious and I know initial reporting is almost always wrong.
My understanding was that they observed someone running away for the general area where the gunfight occurred. They detained that person, questioned them, and presumably cleared them.
Observing, detaining, and questioning them was delineated by the police chief in one of his early press conferences. Clearing them was not, so that is just my supposition.
The chief went further late yesterday, saying the person detained had fled from a car he bailed out of that was somewhere in the area of the gunfight. And, he had been cleared.

Good point. What I am wondering is why they were wearing GoPro cameras to event that was likely to be a suicide mission. It is possible to stream from a GoPro through a smart phone to a remote viewer or a remote client. I wonder if they did this, and if so, why. It also makes me wonder a little bit if there was not some purpose to let the press in their apartment.
I’ve heard (but don’t have any sources on hand) that the GoPro thing was shown to be false, and was just ‘noise’ in the original flurry of information that was seeping out.

My wife came over on a K1 visa. She is of Sunni Muslim heritage but you would never know it. I try to get her to wear a trash bag and walk 10 paces behind me but she won’t. I think supposedly her criminal record was checked with the local PD, but I really don’t see how that was possible 15 years ago. I am sure that no one from State visited her home town. When her visa was ready, we had to go to the embassy in Moscow to get it (my wife is not from Russia). No interview or anything, just stood in line with a bunch of rude Russians to ultimately get the visa from one of the rude Russian embassy employees. Back then, a hundred bucks would go a long way. A hundred dollar bill got me out of the backseat of a Moscow PD car. The 2 underpaid policemen in the front had automatic carbines of some sort and were trying to turn their lives around. Turns out, they had a deep appreciation for Ben Franklin. My crime was that I was walking the sidewalk in the afternoon without my Russian Tourist visa in my possession. I swear to God, that visa was an ink stamp on a yellow post it note. I had left it in my hotel room. Sorry for the ramble. Overall, I have a high regard for government incompetence and the ability of anyone to game the system.
