A Different Kind of “Feel Good Story”
Well, it seems as if a number of senior members of a Daesh unit – the Yarmouk Martyrs Brigade, a Daesh militia unit famous for brutality and which controls parts of the Golan Heights – were killed recently. The losses included the unit’s commander, Muhammad “Abu Ali” al-Baridi, who went by the nickname “The Uncle”.
Six members of the unit’s leadership apparently were killed in an explosion on 15 November. What’s a bit unusual is the cause of the explosion.
They were not killed by a US RPA strike. They were also not killed in an Israeli operation, or by Syrian government forces. They were also not killed by the Russians, Iran, or “moderate” Syrian rebels – if any of the latter actually exist.
Rather, they were killed in a terrorist bombing. The bombing was reportedly conducted by the Al Nustra Front – al Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate.
I don’t necessarily buy into that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” crap. But I can’t help smile on seeing two groups of thoroughly evil terrorist bastards – both of whom are enemies of the USA – kill each other with gusto.
May each group send myriads of the other to meet Shaytan, forever to “enjoy” his company – until each group ceases to exist. And may all of their promised 72 virgins look thusly:

That was BT3 Watdafuckski “Ski” on his 8 hour liberty while pulling 8 of/8 off watch on the USS Saratoga. I was second in line. Ya had to be there is all I can say.

6 on 6 off is not sustainable after 2 weeks.
What does work and has been employed since boilers have been used is: a rotating shift around a regular work day inport and underway.
4 and 4 BS …
6 and 6 max for ocean crossing only if required …
Rotating 4 hour 3 section watch with normal work day works and it is arduous in the hole.
Port and starboard duty sucks. It can be done but the burn rate is very high and NOT worth the cost.

We had four Throttlemen for the two enginerooms, longest we went on 6 & 6 was fourty five days straight. I know that I met myself going up or down the ladder to Main Control a time to two.
That was quite awhile ago, when manning was a little short.
I hope that nowadays the off watch time is greater than on watch.

I like that you used Daesh. That is the name they hate to be called, so it’s the name I too refer them as. That and Lars or Mikey.

The way we’re going about it now is we’ve got to send a registered letter to the target, which he must receive at least 72 hours prior to attack. Said letter detailing time and method of attack along with reasonable steps to take to avoid the attack.

It is indeed – now the late Helen Thomas. She died in July of 2013.
I think that she died about ten years ago, but looking at that face, nobody could tell.

This increasing Balkanization of the Mideast is not going to end well; it’s going to either be regional anarchy or the rise of an Islamic superpower which is the role I believe Iran sees for itself, a restoration of the Persian Empire extending from the Mediterranean Sea to India with the Arab states to the south left to their own solutions. I believe Russia sees this potential for a rising Iran and wants to be on the right side of Mideast history when the dominoes begin to topple.
So we’re back to a version of the Cold War? I’m not so sure about that, if that was what you meant.
I think that we will be far less complacent about a lot of things four years from now.
