Fourth of July Weekend open thread
MCPO sends this video of a guy flying his drone camera through the fireworks in New York last year. It would have been better without some Italian guy screaming his head off in the background;
MCPO tells us that he’s home now after 2 surgeries and 12 days in the hospital. I’m guessing he’ll be up to his old Bernath-crushing self in no time.
Category: Open thread
I’m FIRST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s it I’m the Boss !!!!!!

I’m Second Also !!!!!!
HEEEEE. HAWWWWWWWWWW !!!!!!!!!
About to head north and assist some Gold Star folks over the holiday.
My deepest thanks to all of those and their families that made this weekend possible. We truly live in a great place.
Everyone have a safe 4th.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot.
The False Commander Phil Monkress, the CEO of All-Points Logistics based in Merritt Island, FL and his felonious senior staff take it in their collective ass.
Maggots.
The good ole fourth Point of contact….
Green Thumb, thank you for giving your weekend to assist such very deserving people. You as well, have a safe and great trip. Thank you Sir as well, for you service in making this day possible.
Master Chief, I am glad you are home and pray you recover quickly.
I’ll just leave this here. It seems that the the US intelligence system is so disturbed by being hacked that it has decided to return to pen and paper for clearances.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=4&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CDQQFjAD&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nbcnews.com%2Fnews%2Fus-news%2Fu-s-intelligence-agencies-go-back-paper-after-massive-hacks-n386156&ei=IrWWVdDfB4eqgwTqqpeAAw&usg=AFQjCNGOIIPw9Kdt3UtZyBiGvav4k8dRAA&bvm=bv.96952980,d.eXY
That means that the people now applying will have to work on their penmanship. I guess the old-fashioned stuff still comes in handy.
Ex-PH2…Have you seen some examples of the current generation’s penmanship? It is absolutely dreadful…that is, if I could read it to begin with.
I learned cursive writing in second grade.
Today, it’s not even taught at all.
Exactly, Sparks. They will have a serious problem with this, won’t they? The more I think about it, the more I laugh.
Time to dust off the old IBM Selectric.
The Russians decided to go that route a few years back when when all our intel & stuff was getting put out there on the internet. We just don’t learn…
…but electronic media for every little thing is SO much more convenient than paper, pen, typewriter… and it doesn’t hurt trees!
Yeah, remember when they said computers will turn our society into a paperless society?
Ummm…
I dunno, maybe it’s just me, but it seems like we are using more paper with computers than we ever used before.
Yes… yes, we are. I still get a daily newspaper, too, but I pile it up once I’m done and use it for various things like soaking up spills, wrapping junk to pack it, giving my cat a spot to rest his head while he listens to the radio.
Oh, wait! Isn’t radio also supposed to be defunct or something? And DVDs were to be bygones, too? Did you know that some recording artists are going back to vinyl LPs? And people do still want print copies of books to read.
There’s usually a PDF version of the form online that one could download. If they’re lucky, it’d be a fillable one. I’ve found an SF 86 that was fillable. Push come to shove, Nuance PDF has a way of making it fillable. Either way, I’d fill it out using speech to text dictation. I was one of the people that was able to submit it online via Equip (?), that allowed me to use dictation software.
I’m all for maintaining old school skills like cursive and print, but I’d still find an easy way to do things first. 😀
I’m sure all of you Airborne guys have heard this so bear with me.
An new Airborne trainee was telling his buddy about his first jump. He said, “I was standing there at the jump door, next in my stick to go but I hesitated too long”. The Jumpmaster finally yelled, “Troop if you don’t jump, I’m gonna shove my fist up your ass!” His buddy asked him, “So, did you jump?”. The troop said, “Well yea, a little at first.”
Get well, Master Blaster!
Happy Fourth to everyone!
JUDGEMENT DAY IS COMIN’, DANNI-BOI!
Gosh, I spoke too soon. I figured BERNATH was off my butt. Today he wrote I’m blabbing via TAH. My son who knows me so well asked me a very difficult question. Mom if at the Bar hearings, the BASTARD has a heart attack are you jumping in. It didn’t take long to answer the question. Yes,I would do CPR or M/M and try my best to save him. BUT, after he heals game is back on. What HE did is crap on every soldier who died fighting for our country and all the veterans who still honor America. Until he admits that he’s a big lying POSER..we keep our heads high and continue to make sure he gets it through his head. My son said I KNEW YOU WOULD and I’d be down there with you. You all think I’m crazy?
I’ve unleashed my 4 july celebratory log of a Giduck. You could grill that thing if you cut it in half.
John Giduck – the turd with a face!
Just funnin’, Faker 6
Happy 4th of july!
Every once in a while I run across something that gives me one of those things civilians call ‘feelings’. I watch this man and cannot help but think of talents I will never possess, dreams I will never fulfill, and the tragedy that consumes those that have those talents and could have lived those dreams.
He claims to be a Marine Corps veteran. Watch the second video, his claims of military service are not what I expected to hear. I think of what could have been, what should have been, and what might be salvaged of the journey we call life. If he is indeed is my brother…….Semper Fi Devil Dog.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCguq3hTC2M
In my true fashion the videos posted backwards.
I seen this yesterday and I cried it was so beautiful. Thank you for posting the other video. I had not seen them talking to him.
Dave Hardin….thank you for posting this about one of our brotherhood. May never have seen combat, may never have been under pressure, but we both know what he went through to earn the title Marine. Boot camp, and ITR, both good memories no matter what MOS you end up with. The guy deserves credit for not pandering the way most homeless do. Didn’t hear him complain that someone “owed” him something for his time served did we? At first the comments by the restaurant owner bothered me, him trying to limit what those people can earn in a day. On the other hand, if we saw the guy shit faced and falling down on the sidewalk, maybe we’d be more understanding. For what I saw, this guy is the real thing, and I respect him for at least owning up to his personal chaotic lifestyle. We are headed down that way toward the last of August. I will make it my responsibility to find this guy and post another video for this site. Thank you again brother, from one who grew up only 25 miles from where you live. Semper Fi my brother.
SF, let me know if you run into him.
The song he was playing in that video was ‘Come Sail Away’ by Styx, the first two verses of it, which have these lyrics:
I’m sailing away, set an open course for the virgin sea
I’ve got to be free, free to face the life that’s ahead of me
On board, I’m the captain, so climb aboard
We’ll search for tomorrow on every shore
And I’ll try, oh Lord, I’ll try to carry on
I look to the sea, reflections in the waves spark my memory
Some happy, some sad
I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had
We live happily forever, so the story goes
But somehow we missed out on that pot of gold
But we’ll try best that we can to carry on
No disrespect to Mr. Gould, but this kind of reminds me of a joke. The punch line is: Someone in the audience runs into the piano player as he is exiting the bathroom and says, “Do you know your fly’s open and your pecker’s hanging out?”
And the piano player says: “Know it? Hell I WROTE IT!”
While watching the local news this morning, my wife and I saw a musical trio called the Sisters of Swing, all dolled up in 1942-vintage USO Girl outfits and matching hairstyles, who sang some popular WWII-era songs and will participate in San Diego’s Independence Day festivities. They sounded pretty good, covered a few of my grandparents’ old favorites.
My wife commented on their fine musical talent and on how nice they looked in that style. People back then dressed up to look good. Even the thugs wore suits. It’s really too bad that style has fallen as far as it has in this day and age.

Master Chief, wishing you a swift recovery!
OK Boys and Girls, time for a Sea Story. Now this ain’t no shit…
There I was, on the first leg of a UNITAS, where we exercise with our South American friend’s Navys. Usually a coveted detachment, especially the last leg which is held in Rio, for reasons that are obvious. Coveted because the per diem was generous and the accommodations were usually 4 star hotels and high end restaurants. Usually, that is, unless one is on the first Unitas leg, as I was. My P-3 crew and I were billeted in the famous Bundy barracks in Puerto Rico (open bay, no screens, floor fan to move the air), and had a dining choice of the Navy chow hall or the Exchange’s greasy spoon. To add insult to injury, on our in-chop brief, they issued us ration cards for booze and tobacco. Something like two fifths of hard liquor and 10 cigars a week. Completely unsat, as I had planed to stock up on the unbelievably low priced Bacardi rum and stogies for the trip home. What to do….
Hmmm, seems the “ration card” was merely an 8 1/2x11sheet of paper, with check off blocks at the appropriate items. I looked at the ration card.
I then looked at the Xerox machine in the corner.
20 copies later, and I was eventually able to pretty much fill a cruise box with cases of rum and boxes of Nicaraguan stogies.
I guess the first leg of Unitas wasn’t so bad after all!
Then there was the emerald I scored in Panama, but that’s another story.
Well, since it’s the 239th anniversary, I’ll just drop this in here.
Damn! It got dusty here all of a sudden. ‘Scuse me for a moment. . . .
Yep. That was nice. The cynic in me was wait for a CSM to bust him for being in a mall in what my era called “fatigues”.
Bravo.
That hit me,right in the feels.
I had a pretty good week this week. On Monday I started my new job working at range control. It feels good working with Soldiers again, but a little weird being on the other side of the desk. Some of the guys I work with remember me as a PSG sitting in the tower with them. This week I also got my disability rating from the VA after only 6 months. I didn’t even get anything denied.
My new boss is also my old boss. He was my PSG when I was a Squad Leader. The other funny thing is the guy that issued me my CAC card was one of my old Soldiers. I remember having to drive down to Black Rapids to pick him up when he got kicked out of the Cold Weather Leaders Course. Needless to say he didn’t have a pleasant ride back. He did end up being a pretty good Soldier that learned from his mistake though.
Bravo Twist! Remember when you were interviewing for that. I’m glad I stayed in military circles when I got my 214. In my case I started working for the USAF and learned a lot of new things and appreciation for what they do.
It all sounds good, Twist! Glad to hear that things are coming together so well.
Great news re MCPO! Starting to think that someone had cometh.
I’ll officially stand down from lighting candles (and cigars since Jonn said that they counted as candles in cases like this) for a successful surgery(s).
I was going to say extinguish the “Smoking Lamp”…do they still have those on BGB’s? (BGB = Big Grey Boat)
I know most surface ships, and all submarines, have banned smoking entirely.
In the words of Adam Ant, “Don’t drink, don’t smoke, what do ya do?”
A Happy Independence Day to all the Fine People of TAH®™ and a huge FYVM to The Dutch Rudder Gang! I wonder if the shit they’ve donw will hit them this fast when it comes back to them?
Any follow-up news to Crash-and-Bernath’s eventual arrest/committal?
I do not know about those two losers but I do know this: The False Commander Phil Monkress, the CEO of All-Points Logistics HQ’d in Merritt Island, Florida, absolutely hates the 4th of July.
There is no more “thanks for your service, Phil” or “tell us what it was about when you were in Phil”, and all of that jazz. No more invites or speaking engagements, either. I imagine he receives NO calls or accolades these days.
From hero to zero in less time than it takes to sneeze.
Awesome.
Shitbag.
To all the TAH family – have a wonderful Independence Day, a fun filled week end, and a few moments reflecting upon what it all means. It’s a great day no matter how we commemorate it. Blessings to all.
Have a great weekend everyone I wish you all Big fun and happiness.
Does anybody here go on The Chive much? Wanted to talk about their latest “flash charity” they did and see if anyone had heard about it.
I know the story about the organization called Military With PTSD has been discussed, but here is a story blazing like wildfire through my neck of the woods: http://www.kgns.tv/home/headlines/Fireworks-may-be-disturbing-for-veterans-311088851.html
Matthew Burany, the guy who was interviewed for this story, was a cook (LinkedIn page here: https://www.linkedin.com/pub/matthew-burany/b0/1/974). Other stories indicate that he told them that the sound of fireworks takes him back to combat in Iraq and Afghanistan. I bet he did hand-to-hand combat with only a serving spoon. All I’m going to say is that I personally know of at least four people who completely made up their PTSD stories to get VA benefits. It seems to be the new “slip and fall” trick.
His LinkedIn page makes no mention of service in Irag or Afghanistan. 1 year, 9 months in Germany, the rest in CONUS.
Found his Facebook – there are some photos which purport to have been taken in Irag – so maybe he was there. Still, as a cook he probably didn’t see much action.
Hey! He had to kill all those unborn chickens and roast the flesh of other innocent creatures. Surely that qualifies as PTSD. The horror!
Yeah, my mistake on AFG–it’s only Iraq references: http://www.11alive.com/story/news/nation-now/military/2015/07/03/veterans-fireworks-and-ptsd/29658089/
“When he hears fireworks, he’s suddenly back in the sands of Iraq with his Army unit – fighting the enemy again.”
He’s one of the reasons I had a potential employer ask me if I have PTSD. Hell, they think every vet has it.
He claims four Iraq deployments on his RallyPoint page: https://www.rallypoint.com/profiles/85694-sgt-matthew-burany
Hi ‘yall,
Yeah I am back … no pun intended!
The VA could not figure out in about 8 neuro visits, MRI, CAT SCANS and X-Rays what my private surgeon figured out in about a NY minute. Mind you, I am service connected …
So while the VA was trying to figure out what was wrong with me, my spine surgeon analyzed the situation, reviewed all my records, conducted secondary imaging and scheduled me for emergency surgery.
The VA sent me a letter the other day for a neuro-surgery consult after me dragging my balls across broken glass and the VA in NYC for the better part of 3 years.
I thinketh the VA will have some splaining to do!
PS: Jonn, note the new IP address. Due to the recent OPM info give-a-away to the Chineeze, we were issued these new Tough Books (look cool) that were mapped through CIA Cyber Control Center (CCCC or C4) they say that should solve me problem.
One other thing: I thinketh, the Italian dude was Italian in Italia!
Welcome back, Master Chief.
I hope your back feels better than mine. Just make sure you have the best mattress you can get your hands on.
Happy July 4th!
Glad you are doing better and that you are back.
Gosh, gee whillikers, that sounds awful close to my own experience.
Which part of the spine required emergency surgery?
In my case, it was C-3 and C-4 of the cervical spine.
Just like in your case, the VA refused to authorize it or pay for it, so Medicare took care of most of it, but still leaving me a bill I’m not able to pay.
The VA just did an MRI on my lumbar spine, and will begin spinal injections in a couple of weeks.
Is that, more or less, what’s going on with you?
If you haven’t done so already, go to my blog, OUR ETERNAL STRUGGLE, and read my description of the surgery.
I think you’ll find it interesting, and possibly, even pertinent.
Gosh, it’s good to see you back with us!
Everyone enjoy the 4th. Be safe and count your blessings, living in this wonderful country of ours! We have our problems, but it’s still the best gig going!
GOOGLE HIT
Kirjath Toney has lied repeatedly about being awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart, and Bronze Star. He refuses to admit that he is a fraud and a valor-stealing thief, and his fellow IOOF (International Order of Odd Fellows – GOOGLE HIT) members refuse to pull their heads out of their collective fundamental orifices and admit that Kirjath Toney is a cancer in their ranks. Thanks to ChipNASA for reaching out to Arlington Cemetary officials about Kirjath Toney, and a big BRAVO ZULU to those officials for their promises to take action and prevent Kirjath Toney from defiling any more Unknown Soldier ceremonies with his presence.
Anyone have any thoughts on Jack Holder?
Master Chief…quick recovery. Ms. Violet is probably making lots of noise unlike BERNATH..all my emails have been returned from all addresses…I hope it’s over..Happy Fourth and drive safe
Since it is open thread, here’s a funny for the weekend:
It seems that there were twin brothers by the name of Jones, John and Joe. John was married and Joe was single. Joe was the proud owner of a dilapidated boat. It so happened that Joes boat sank on the same day that Johns wife died.
A few days later a kindly old lady met Joe on the street, and mistaking him for John said:” I was sorry to hear of your great loss, and you must feel terrible.” Joe replied; ” Well, I am not a bit sorry. She was a rotten old thing from the start. Her bottom was all chewed up, and she smelled of old fish. The first time I got into her she made water faster that anything I ever saw. She had a crack and a pretty big hole in front that kept getting bigger and bigger every time that I used her. It got so I could handle her all right, but when someone else was using her she leaked like anything. This is what finished her off: Four guys from the other side of town came down looking for a good time. They asked if I could rent her to them. I warned them that she wasnt so hot, but the crazy fools all tried to get into her at the same time. It was too much for her and she cracked right up the middle!”
THE OLD LADY FAINTED.
Have a Happy and Safe 4th Everyone!!
ROFLOL ! ! !
Ozzie…..man, that really is funny; made my day to start with. Good stuff. You get my award for the funniest July 4th joke.
No matter how bad things look today, no matter how bad it gets in the coming days, remember that we are the heirs to a birthright of Liberty, passed down to us by the people who took on the greatest empire on earth
and won Liberty from it
because they just would not quit, and preferred the death of Free men to the life of the serf.
Don’t quit.

Happy Indepenence Day TAH family 😀
Miss you all…its my name day today (1000 obama points to who figures the referference)…..
MCPO sending light and love to you for a speedy recovery.
EX-PH2 Thank you for the beautiful pictures…..you know how they cheer me… <3
Test results come on the 13th…lets hope its not a Friday lol…
Have a great weekend everyone…
Slainte'
TC
P.S.
Hey Bernath…I hope a bottle rocket flies up your arse 😈
You’re welcome and I will send more in time. Not getting out as much as I’d like with rain and all.
Good news: Friday the 13th is on Monday this month!
Slainte yourself.
If you can find a copy of ‘The Redhaired Girl From the Bog’ to read, that will give you a full tour of Ireland without having to leave your living room.
Independence Day is here!
Have a wonderful and safe one all.
This is the first in many years that I have not worked, so no state secrets to be shared here or anywhere else.
Don’t be afraid (as they will win), just be prepared (so they will not win … And perhaps bleed out before an ambulance can respond).
We live in a free society, unfortunately because we have retreated from the foriegn stage, they have seemingly come here to terrorize us … Rounds on target and don’t permit them to take our Freedom.
Out!
I figured you were quiet on the net for the past several days because you were rounding up ex-con cadavers and lone wolf hunting. Sorry to hear you are laid up, but wishing you a speedy recovery followed by a lifetime of a pain free back. Happy 4th Master Chief. Enjoy it and rock on.
Ok Jarheads, Army dogs, and Salty Squids, here is a great read you might want to enjoy in the privacy of your own contaminated brain housing group. My phone number does not start with 858- but the offer still stands. Semper Fi you twisted Phuks.

I’ve been laughing for the last five minutes, and that’s just at the reviews.
I’m getting the damn thing. People at work are gonna wonder what’s causing all the hilarity in the third stall from the door in the men’s room.
Semper Fi, Dave, thanks!
Well, shit.
I’ve made my characters into nice people who are clever, creative, and competent, but they still like blowing things up and breaking things.
I think I need to bump up my style a bit. Not be so – well, polite. I mean, I’m putting guy they think is gay on their team, but he’s actually on that door that swings both ways and he’s breaking up with his boyfriend.
I don’t know if my stuff can compete with someone who is so brutally funny.
Oh, dear. I am now in a quandary.
He will never match your eloquence. I am sure most will find his writing crude, offensive, and completely vulgar. I am all too familiar with that, it is just refreshing for me to see it in print.
You on the other hand have brought a vision and perspective to my all to barbaric mind that has forced me to evolve. Albeit ever so slowly.
Semper Fi my friend.
OOPS…..don’t scream at me. “all too barbaric”.
That GED continues to pay dividends.
Happy 4th of July, DH.
But, you see, I don’t want to write like a GURL.
Besides, when I got to the part where he put tiger balm in his buttcrack, I knew I had a standard to aim at, one which is set higher than I had anticipated.
I will endeavor to persevere.
65 degrees and rain.
This is July? Oh wait, yes it is.
At the farm. Cows and calves are happy, as is Ferdinand. Grass is tall and green and growing. Garden is coming up nicely. Bought $30 worth of fireworks on the way up. Ribs and corn going on the grill shortly. Okra to fry in the iron skillet. Home made ice cream at my command. Life is good. Thanks to those men who pledged their lives and fortunes 249 years ago, and thanks for those that have fought and served to transform our founders ideals into the greatest country on God’s green earth.
Hoping everyone here has a great and safe day. GDC.
And to remove any doubt, yes I am a ritard.
Gratitude for what was done 239 years ago, not 249. Someone please throw colored tennis balls at me.
GDC, it’s a holiday. Mistakes are allowed.
I got up thinking it was Friday the 135h.
In honor of today being the 4th of July I have been watching all three episodes of Sons of Liberty.
WELCOME BACK, MASTER CHIEF ! ! !
It’s almost sundown, and I’m looking forward to watching the fireworks display from my bedroom window.
On my way back from Salt Lake City, I passed through the Ute-Ouray Indian Reservation where they’re having a huge annual pow wow.
https://youtu.be/6Z6VPCMl_7U
Here’s a good place to listen to traditional American Indian chanting, plus Country Western music.
http://www.ktnnonline.com/default.asp
In 1967, just prior to entering the United States Army, I worked on the Sundance Mountain – Trapper’s Peak forest fire in Idaho.
During the nights at the Sandpoint Ranger Station where we were camped, American Indian tribes from all over the Country had bonfires, pounded drums, and chanted.
It was super neat!
I wish you could have been there.
I remember one Indian boy at that camp who had been drafted into the Army and was afraid to go.
The FBI came to that camp and took him away.

Air burst are reported East Coast. Standby other time zones.
Sadly no fireworks for me this year. There is a ban on them here because of the fires. Heck, we are not even supposed to use charcoal right now.
That sucks, Twist. Here’s an idea: Just stand outside and say, “Whoosh! Boom!” as you throw glow-light sticks in the air.
Reports out of Chicago are that police dispatchers are being swamped with calls from citizens reporting illegal fireworks and are being told, “Thank you for calling but we can assure you that the sounds you hear are gunfire, not fireworks.” Dispatchers say that the citizens are greatly relieved to hear that.
I just now saw this posted at the FREE NORTH CAROLINA web site.
I wasn’t there, but I remember all about it.

Ah, you should have SEEN the fireworks displays here in Vernal, Utah! Prior to sunset, families gathered on the soccer fields at Vernal Junior High School across the street from my apartment window. Being a lonely old guy, I truly enjoyed watching all the wee ones and their pets romp and play. A lot of folks brought their own fireworks, so there was plenty of gunpowder smoke all through the neighborhood. With so many fireworks, it was difficult to figure out which one was the city’s official display, and which ones were just folks having fun. Apparently, the quality of fireworks being sold by Wal-Mart has GREATLY improved! I bought two large packages of assorted fireworks, but I think I’ll save them for celebrating Pioneer Day, which is Friday 24 July 2015. In Utah, and adjoining states with large Mormon populations, Pioneer Day is seen as much more significant than Independence Day. It marks the anniversary of when Brigham Young and the Mormon pioneers first arrived in the valley of the Great Salt Lake. Next weekend is a Scottish Festival in Payson, Utah, and ALSO, the big Dinosaur Days rodeo here in Vernal, Utah. Oh, which one shall I go to? Can I afford to attend both? At the moment, I’m feeling pretty sick, weak, and in pain – – – , all of which is a normal condition and par for the course. I dread taking my medicine, because I want to get up in the morning to go to church. But, I’m sooooooo tired. And, once again, I have to fight to get through these endless hours of the night. I am looking forward to devouring the fresh nectarines, plums, grapes, and bananas that I bought at Wal-Mart, and the watermelon that someone gave me earlier tonight. I wonder how much weight I’ve lost? My pants won’t stay up, and my belt can’t have enough new holes punched in it. I don’t reckon I’ll be able to play Santa Claus anymore. I hope I’m approved for that insurance, so I can pay for my funeral. But, I won’t… Read more »
Because of the degeneration of my spinal column, I’ve lost three (03) inches in my height.
Can you imagine how sloppy and improper that will look when I put on my kilt?
Kilts are VERY expensive, having to be tailored to the individual, so on my limited income, replacing it is out of the question.
if losing three inches out of your back is affecting how long your kilt is hanging on your legs – you have the waistband ‘way too high
John,
Put me down as POC!
Don’t worry about your funeral.
As soon as we here at TAH learn of your Permanant Transfer of Duty Stations, any short falls will be covered.
My biggest concern, of course, would be that heaven IS not ready for you yet. They would never have enough Angel scribes or seats in the amphatheater to accomodate all the heavenly souls who will no doubt want to hear each and every one of your stories and songs.
By all accounts …
ALL SECURE IN NYC!
Fox is reporting:
4th of July Fireworks (bombings) conducted in Syria …
Looks like they got the IP geolocation on the weekend threats.
God Bless America!
Hope they have fun trying to find a Twitter account in HELL!
Well done USAF and US Navy pilots!
I’m very disappointed in the National Veterans Disability Advocates, LLC., i.e., Rep For Vets, and have just now filed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Western Florida.
Also, the director of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, Mississippi, was forced to retire last Tuesday 30 June 2015.
I don’t know the whole story, because I’m no longer living there.
In reading my local paper this morning, came across a obit for Captain Roland Lamar Hoffer born 1/8/40 says he recieved the Distingiuished Flying Cross and the MOH, while serving in Vietnam. I find no record of him receiving the MOH. HONDO can you check this guy out?
I am looking into it. I can find no records supporting a MOH claim. I will continue to investigate.
No matter what we all need to remember that this involves a grieving family and at this point all I have found is an obit. We dont know f this is a case of a family posting something they thought to be true or a case of a family exaggerating in an obit .
I feel the same about the family. My concern is a headstone in a military cemetery that claims the MOH. If false, it does a disservice to all who actually earned it. The Marine, Bonnyman whose remains were just recovered comes to mind.
Sorry for the delay here; was on the road and out of comm yesterday.
Here’s what I found:
1. The Congressional Medal of Honor Society does not list anyone with the last name “Hoffer” as having ever been awarded the MoH.
http://www.cmohs.org/recipient-archive.php
2. Wikipedia shows no “Hoffer” as having received the MoH during Vietnam.

3. The DoD “Top 3” site does not list him as a recipient of the MoH for any of the military services (Army, Navy, USMC, USAF).

4. Neither does Doug Sterner’s comprehensive list of MoH recipients for the Vietnam War.

5. Finally, the Military Times Valor Database – which is reportedly complete for the MoH – does not list anyone with the last name of “Hoffer” as having received the Medal of Honor.

My assessment is that this individual did NOT receive the Medal of Honor. While one source generally regarded as authoritative could theoretically have an omission or error, I’m not buying any claim that all of them are incorrect regarding the guy.
Can’t say much about the DFC, though. DFC Society records are known to be incomplete, and none of the other online databases of military awards are any better.
Laptop, desktop amd network safety tip for all those who moght try this.
DO NOT attempt to install A BlackArmor Backup device and get it working, when 1. Your wife is visiting family in Texas and 2. You’ve had too much Vodka.
Also, refrain from posting on blogs.
Looks like a Pearl Harbor payback going down in Vancouver: USA Ladies 4, Japaneeze 1.
I just saw Lloyd on FOX, she has not slept as of yet … As Capt and lead scorer she was up all night doing interviews!
3 goals, one from more than mid field at 56 yards!
Holy shitz am I the only one here so proud of these ladies?
The greatest soccer squad ever assembled!
PS: at about 76 mins, I believe Wambach came in and Lloyd when out, Lloyd gave up her Capt’s arm band to Wambach who at over 40 had been playing on the USA Ladies team for more than 20 years … Keeping it classy to the end!
This is why we have a great country …
Thanks for posting that, Master Chief.
I just got the news from local TV that the USA women’s team won for the first time since 1999. (I think that was the date given.)
It’s about time!!!!
