San Francisco news crew mugged

| July 3, 2015

I’m sure you remember the story yesterday of the former CNN correspondents who were mugged in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but they were armed and their attacker was pronounced DRT. Well, an NBC news crew was mugged yesterday on a pier in San Francisco and it didn’t end so well for them. They were there to do a segment on a woman who had been killed on the same pier the night before, so you know, who would ever expect another crime to happen in the same spot?

As the two were about to go on air, a man pulled up to the curb in a black four-door BMW, approached the photographer and pistol-whipped him with a gun then shoved him to the ground, the photographer and reporter said. The man then grabbed the photographer’s camera gear, and as he was struggling to get it inside his getaway car, returned to pistol whip the photographer again, the news crew reported.

The reporter was not injured and the photographer suffered a cut to his ear. The photographer was checked out by paramedics along the Embarcadero and declared OK. Both returned to work later to the warm embrace of their colleagues.

I remember the good old days when crooks drove shitbox cars, but I guess times have changed and crime does pay enough for them to drive BMWs. I wonder if the reporter isn’t a little brain damaged from the incident, along with her editor after reading the lead paragraph of this article;

An NBC Bay Area news crew was attacked early Thursday morning while reporting a story in a mugging that injured the photographer, whose camera gear was also stolen.

You’d think that someone would have had the language skills to write a coherent sentence, but, you know, I’m sure everyone caught PTSD from the reporter while they were in their warm embrace.

“Pistol-whipped with a gun”

Redundant much?

2/17 Air Cav

Nice catch. I missed that. Pistol whipped with a screwdriver?

Ex-PH2

Pistol-whipped with an ice cream cone.

TOW…News folks, being liberals by and large, do not understand or take the time to become informed about the number one item on their phobia list, scary black guns.

Number 2 is, an IRS audit.
Number 3 is, my wife/husband finds out about Jane/Jack.
Number 4 is, a bad on the air, hair day.
Number five, too inane to list.

Pistol whipped with a pimp hand…

Pimp hand. Well played. For those that may not frequent The Smoking Gun and catch the reference, http://www.thesmokinggun.com/buster/obituary/newspaper-pimp-hand-obituary-890741.

But…but…but…guns are ILLEGAL in California?

Well, not totally. Yet. But Governor Moonbeam is working his ass off to get there.

I took my wife to San Francisco for a weekend getaway this past winter. Honestly, we enjoyed it. Alcatraz, Chinatown, the Golden Gate, Fisherman’s Wharf, the USS Pampanito and SS Jeremiah O’Brian, cable car, and streetcar were a lot of fun, and the ridiculously-overpriced food was pretty good. We stayed out of the extra-gay part of town. But I took a .45 on the trip. It was chilly enough that I could have easily concealed it under a jacket, but I didn’t, as San Diego County is slow-rolling CCW applications, despite the court’s order. As it was, I made sure we walked on well-lit and well-traveled sidewalks as soon as the sun started setting, and I kept a knife in my pocket just in case (which would suck, but it’s better than nothing).

The only place I felt perfectly safe after dark was Chinatown. Why? Because we were obviously tourists (apparently Chinatown is the only true “ethnic” neighborhood left in San Francisco; white boys like me are clearly out of place), kept to the tourist-trap blocks, and the tongs (and by extension the triads) make a lot of money from taxing the tourist businesses, so anything that might scare away the tourists (like mugging) would interfere with the bottom line of people you really don’t want to piss off. That’s right, I felt safe in the neighborhood owned by organized crime. The irony was not lost on me.

Same thing in Baltimore. At least it used to be. Across from Little Italy were projects, with the usual riff-raft, her-on nodders, killings, robberies, what not. But across the street? You could eat off the sidewalk and walk drunk as a skunk w/o being approached or accosted. Why? Because the enforcers in Little Italy did not call the cops. Ever.

2/17 Air Cav…Dead of winter, 1978 Rochester, NY. In training at the Eastman Kodak Headquarters. A local born company guy tells me after I asked about it, “If you want some great, authentic Italian food go here. But STAY in the blocks from this street to this street only. The mob keeps it clean of shit bags and no one will bother you”. He was right. Old ladies and young kids walking the streets after dark and playing stick ball under street lights and not a ne’er-do-well to be seen.

From 2007 until 2009, I flew into SFO on Sunday night and flew out on Thursday night. I stayed at the Hilton at Taylor and O’Farrell near Union Square and the Tenderloin. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening I walked the city for dinner and exercise. A typical evening walk: over Nob Hill and Russian hill to the wharf, eat at Scomas, walk down Embarcadero then up the stairs to the top of Telegraph hill, Back over Nob Hill to the hotel. I was usually back by 10:30 but I have been on top of Telegraph Hill at midnight and walked back to the hotel. For about 6 months, I would get up at 5 am and run a flatter version of the same route – hotel to the wharf, down Embarcadero to Market, back to the hotel. That is about 5 miles. I felt unsafe one time – one day after lunch I was accosted by a street guy a block from the hotel. I was able to shout my way out of it. I never went into the Tenderloin after dark. I am sure that there are dangerous parts of SF but I am sure that I walked every street north of Market and O’Farrell and east of Van Ness and quite a few west and south of those boundaries without worrying about it. I also climbed every stairway within those boundaries, most of them dozens of times. Maybe it has changed but I think that downtown SF is really safe. I cannot say the same about NYC or Chicago or Boston.

San Francisco is probably safer now than it used to be, but in some ways it’s also less interesting. Part of this, at least it seems to me, is due to the fact that the city made a conscious effort to go the full monte on yuppification.

When I was a kid, there were still freight trains running along the Embarcadero, and the piers were still active with shipping and passenger lines such as Matson. The shipping went away with containerized cargo, and airlines killed the passenger ships.

South of Market was almost all industrial, and included things like a major coffee company that might have been Folgers or Farmer Brothers. You could walk down Folsom Street on some mornings, and the whole neighborhood would smell like roasting coffee beans.

Without putting too fine a point on it, San Francisco once seemed more like a place where people actually worked for a living, and less like some sort of adult version of Disneyland.

I grew up in the city and went to Star of the Sea on Geary. The neighborhood is now run down and now called “New China Town”
(Inner Richmond District). When I went out there two years ago, I couldn’t ride a damn cable car because of all of the damn tourists. Lombard St. was closed on weekends because of the tourists. The Presidio looks horrible. Way back when, it was a great city…except for the Haight and Mission District…very safe 24/7. GREAT COPS as well!

Let me get this right – 2 different crews, supposedly with cameras – and this is the best pix they could capture?

The perp was caught quickly too. His name is Sanchez, a nice Canadian family name I reckon.

Take that Mr.Trump…

I guess the reporter did have the sense to get the tag number since she wasn’t being attacked. She, or someone, got a picture of the gun in the hand, but not the tag? Great coverage and observation. Of course I was the one standing there while it was going on, so I’ll be quiet now.

“Wha-wha-what do you think you’re doing? We’re news! Media! Me liberal! Me friend!”

THUMP.

2/17, there are NOT enough likes on the internet for that comment. 😀

Well played.

What do you expect from the Clowndog News Network? Literacy? Intelligence? Good reporting skills? Paying attention to surroundings?

For Pete’s sake, people, this is the Clanker Newsless Network, not the REAL news service!

Ex-PH2

Sorry – my bad, I meant Nitwits Broadcasting Network. I get those two thingies mixed up when they’re together. They all look alike to me.

Poetrooper

You are forgiven; it’s such an easy mistake to make since they identically report the same talking points handed to them by the White House and the Democrat party.

Wonder how many of these leftist Do Gooders remember the crime of 70s – 80s… Probably NOT !!!!
Well they are leaning now

Well of course. Now the obvious liberal meme will be, if the police pull over black men in BMWs it will be called profiling.

A Proud Infidel®™

Have they tried to accuse the robber of being an NRA & Tea Party Member yet?

Skippy

They are probably working on that one as we speak…..

Devtun

Brian Ross has kept a low profile lately especially after Aurora…

Poetrooper

As I mentioned to Jonn, I’m surprised this is the first time we’ve heard of this. Panty-waist, liberal newsies, who the thugs can count on to be unarmed, carrying all that very expensive video equipment, should make prime targets for muggers. And if the thugs have police scanners they can know exactly where their victims are going to show up.

Wouldn’t it be ironic if these liberal, anti-gun, news networks had to send GUN-BEARING security details out with their news crews?

Hack Stone

I thought that I read a few months back that the local news affiliates in Oakland were dispatching armed security after a few instances of spontaneous redistribution of their wealth. Where does a street thug go to sell a news camera that has the local television station prominently attached to it? It doesn’t matter, they will steal anything, whether the could use it or not.

Hack Stone

I found a link of it.

The Internet, it’s not just for porn, anymore.

FatCircles0311

Actually news crews being robbed in broad day light is common is the cesspool know as California that they hire off duty police to protect them now.

Liberalism is the antithesis of reason and logic.

A Proud Infidel®™

Maybe next we’ll see pantywaisted snotnosed thumbsucking moonbat liberal reporters asking for *GASP!*, ARMED Police Officers to be nearby every time they do a scoop?

Hack Stone

I am sure that the news reporters won’t be too concerned if the police officer providing security for them ever uttered the “N-Word” or ever was in a photo with a Confederate flag.

beretverde

Brian Williams did it. It’s called payback.
