Monday morning feel good stories
In Texas, a fellow decided that he’d clean out the local Radio Shack one more time before they go out of business, but his get away wasn’t as clean as he would have liked;
No threat was made, and no weapon was displayed. Before employees could react, the thief ran out the door, clutching the purloined goods.
And then he encountered a customer preparing to walk in. It was a Harris County deputy, looking for some bargains after his extra job shift ended.
“He thought a robbery had just happened, when he saw the man running out the door. He ordered the man to stop.”
The command was not followed. Police say the suspect jumped into a waiting car. The deputy stood his ground in front of the vehicle.
“Then he saw that the engine was running and a driver was behind the wheel. The car started coming at him, and that’s when he fired his gun,” said HPD public information officer Kese Smith.
The deputy fired two shots; at least one struck the theft suspect. The driver wasn’t injured and was arrested. The wounded man was taken to Ben Taub Hospital.
In Florida, a potential victim learned that even if you don’t “stand your ground” that doesn’t make you safe, either;
According to authorities, an armed man approached a person at 2325 NW 65 Street. The victim took off running on foot and the thief reportedly opened fire.
The person being shot at allegedly returned fire, hitting the robber several times.
The armed thief was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center and was listed in stable condition.
In Maryland, Alex Christopher Finnerty, an escaped prisoner learned that not everyone in that state is unarmed when he broke free of corrections officer and encountered a private citizen;
Sheriff’s deputies, corrections officers, Maryland State Police, Centreville police, Natural Resources Police, MSP Aviation and Annapolis Police Department responded for the search, which included K-9 units, two helicopters and two SWAT teams, Patrick said.
Several of the dogs tracked Finnerty’s scent toward the Hope Road area. About 4:30 p.m., a homeowner found signs of entry into his house and spotted Finnerty; he confronted Finnerty with a shotgun and Finnerty tried to flee, Patrick said.
The homeowner fired a warning shot that attracted search teams, which arrived to see Finnerty running away, Patrick said.
The good citizen loaned the officers his four-wheeler, which one deputy used successfully to run the prisoner down. So, all’s well that ends well.

One has to wonder if the deputy on the ATV actually “Ran the suspect down”. One can only hope.
