Thursday morning feel good stories

| April 30, 2015

The first story this morning comes from Tennessee, where James Melvin Vinson’s criminal record ended;

[Knox County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Martha Dooley] said the resident woke to the sound of breaking glass, went from a bedroom into the living room and fired one gunshot that struck the intruder as he was climbing in the front window.

The man fell onto the deck, where KCSO deputies found his body.

Authorities said the resident called E-911 dispatchers immediately.

Dooley said Vinson had an extensive criminal record and a “long history” of arrests.

Next is Arkansas, where politicians fire warning shots at intruders, but their sons shoot center mass;

The thought of a break-in would never have crossed [Cleburne County State Representative John Payton]’s mind.

“It’s fear, concern and anger all at once,” says Payton.

But they caught one in the act at his parents home last Tuesday. The suspects car was parked outside the home, still running with the headlights on. Payton found the back door open and it’s where he yelled for whoever was inside to come out.

“The suspect barged out, kicked the door open, kicked the yard gate open,” he says. “Yes I did fire a warning shot.”

However, the man didn’t stop. He hopped fences leaving damage behind. Eventually Payton says his son opened fire, hitting the burglar in the shoulder. That’s when they held him down and waited for police.

“He was saying the holograms were trying to get him,” says Payton.

The affidavit identified the suspect as 32-year-old Henry Scott Balderee, the Paytons neighbor.

“I think he was having a psychotic episode.”

Inside the home, Payton says Balderee ripped out the door to the gun cabinet. They found guns laying out, one of which he tried to load, but got jammed.

Then out to Texas where the criminals aren’t real bright – this fellow broke into the house of an off duty cop, while the homeowner was installing a security system;

According to Manvel police, the off-duty police officer was installing a video surveillance system at his home when he noticed a shadowy figure on one of his cameras.

The homeowner grabbed his gun and went to check it out. That’s when he saw the suspect. Authorities say the suspect made a threatening move at the homeowner, who then fired 11 rounds at the suspect.

Yep, 11 rounds fired at the sneaky guy and no blood trail, no body, police don’t think he was hit. My verdict; more range time. I wonder where those 11 rounds end up.

As always, thanks to Chief Tango for the links.

Not only will the cops not get there in time, they most likely won’t be able to hit the target. We are our own protectors, people. Stay armed, stay proficient, fire for effect.

11 shots and didn’t hit the guy
Holy crap, sounds like some of the idiots I went through basic with.
He shouldn’t even be a cop if he fires 11 rounds and doesn’t hit his target.
I’m just glad that I don’t live near him or am his partner.
Range time and pushups would be a good start for him.

Bobo

So, this “police officer” was close enough to a target that he could tell that the target made a “threatening move” but wasn’t able to hit him with one of 11 rounds? And, said officer is allowed to carry a concealed pistol anywhere in the nation while an officer and for life after retirement, yet I, a retired military officer who has fired expert on the handgun every year for the last 14 years, can’t bring a weapon north of the Potomac? Sounds reasonable to me.

but only the police should be allowed to carry guns… they’re TRAINED.

Yep….got it.

Roger in Republic

Who trained him? Mr. Magoo’s school of Spray and Prey?

At the risk of pissin’ off all the LEOs here on the porch – it’s been my experience, lo these many years, that coppers, as a whole, are some of THE worse shots on the planet.
Must be why they buy so firckin’ much ammo.

You don’t miss your target when you use an M79 firing buckshot.
Just saying…
