Iranian RG officers captured in Yemen

| April 12, 2015

According to Yemeni militiamen, two Iranian Republican Guards officers, a colonel and a captain, were captured in the country’s capitol, Aden, says Reuters;

Tehran has denied providing military support for Houthi fighters, whose advances have drawn air strikes by a regional coalition led by Saudi Arabia, the Islamic Republic’s main rival for influence in the Gulf.

If confirmed, the presence of two Iranian officers, who the local militiamen said were from an elite unit of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, would further worsen relations between Tehran and Riyadh who are vying for dominance in the region.

Well, if this turns out to be true, I guess the agreement that the US is fixing to sign with the Iranians in regards to their nuclear program will have all of the weight of the paper on which it is signed, and we can totally trust them to be good actors on the world stage, cuz they’d never lie to us, right?

Last month, an Iranian officer was killed in a firefight between Hezbollah and Israelis on the Golan Heights.

That Yemeni report can’t be true, Jonn. Neither can the report about the Iranian guy killed with Hezbollah.

Everyone knows Fearless Leader would NEVER let himself get hoodwinked! He’s so smart and nuanced!

(Sarcasm, folks. Sarcasm.)

OOHHHh Hondo,, them’s almost fightin words!

Hezbollah is basically the Iranian Foreign Legion. It is funded by Iran and trained by the Quds Force.

Remember, whenever you see a Shia group, look for the Iranian influence, and whenever you see a Sunni group look for the Saudi influence.

It’s easy if you think of all the Sunni terrorists as the Viet Cong of Sunni Islam, with the King playing the role of Uncle Ho. The Saudis don’t want a bunch of radicals running around in their country, so they fund their excursions into rival countries. It’s a twofer- they destabilize a rival AND get rid of a potentially dangerous faction at home!

‘…cuz they’d never lie to us, right?’

Ri-i-i-ight! Okay, what-ev-ah! So, the lack-of-admin was hoodwinked again.

Why is it that none of these things surprise me? Not one of them!

Ex-344MP

Dam Iranians………They were everywhere in Iraq working with the Militias, how does this surprise anyone?

Reddevil

This shouldn’t be surprising. These are actually Revolutionary Guards, probably from the Quds Force. Think of the Quds as like US Army Special Forces- they specialize in advising and assisting foreign insurgencies. Anywhere you see a Shia movement in the world, you will find Quds force advisors helping them out.

It’s all in a name. The Revolutionary Guards are a completely separate armed force under direct control of the Supreme Islamic Council- the Iranian government does not have any control over them. Unlike a Republican Guard, they are not there to protect the regime per se, they exist to protect and further the Shia Islamic Revolution.

Since the Houthi are a Shia militia, it is almost a no brainier that Quds woukd be there to help. If Yemen were to become Shia domonated, it would further tip the balance of power to Iran. These guys are there covertly, no there will be no official ties to the Iranian government.

Green Thumb

Maybe O’bummer and his boys will trade some of our Guantanamo Alumni to get them back safely to Iran.

After all, we have a deal to uphold.

This is legit!

They were on a scouting mission, searching for a new nuclear weapons enrichment site as encouraged by the Obama administration.

Google it!

It’s gonna suck to be those guys…

A couple things I’d like to mention. One is that when the Iranians have nuke weapons or are anywhere close to having nuke weapons then Saudi Arabia will have them too. They’ll buy them off of Pakistan. Picture that for a moment. Two economic/religion rivals, both armed with nukes, with just a little bit of water between them.

The other thing I’d like to mention is I don’t think Obama got hoodwinked. I think he’s a willing contributor to the destabilization of the Middle East. His dealings with terrorist isn’t because he’s inept, it’s because he supports their ideology.

A Proud Infidel®™

I’m sure that once it’s all said and done that B. Hussein 0bama will not just be known as the ONLY POTUS in our lifetimes worse that Jimmeh Kahtuh from his domestic fuckups, he’ll also be known for fucking up the Middle East at least ten times worse than “‘ol Jimmeh Kahtuh” did. Jeez, talk about incompetence and malfeasance!

I am no Carter fan, but I don’t think we can lay all of the ME problems at his feet. The root causes go back a few thousand years, and the proximate causes go back to the aftermath of WW I.

Thunderstixx

The causes of this are numerous but mainly have to be laid at the feet of the appeasers that have given away our secrets, our livelihood and our heritage to those that only wish us harm.
The only thing they understand in the Mideast is strength, we have for too long been playing footsie with many of them, Saudis included…
Saddam Hussein was the only dictator we went after in a land that has many bad players…

Reddevil

Not so sure about appeasers, but the Western powers made a lot of deals with despots in order to get what we wanted out of the region without really caring about what they were doing in the background.

The House of Saud, for instance, is at the same time brutally oppressing religious minorities and exporting and financing terror around the world. ISIS would not exist without them.

Our other ‘friend’ in the region is Pakistan, who already has a nuke. If you are wondering where they stand on this whole terrorism thing, check this out:

And you thought we made a bad deal to get Bo back.

We love to hate Iran, but the reality is that they are somewhat consistent (for a Middle Eastern nation ruled by a fanatical religious faction sworn to destroy Israel) and are doing more to fight ISIS than we are…

Sounds awfully like the Iranian QUDS we had in Basrah that were training, supplying and fighting with insurgents against us. Of course they didn’t exist either. The bodies of several that managed to blow themselves up after trying to launch katusa rockets at my COB didnt exist either. Or the massive amounts of brand new Iranian made explosives and arms that we captured both in and around Basrah in 2010-2011 as well as my deployment to the northern Sadr City area in 2008….Oh those didnt exist either.

Are we sure Iran even exists? Or is that just a figment of our collective imaginations as well?

Reddevil

I was in Basra as well- Maliki had to launch ‘Charge of the Knights’ because he finally saw JAM as a threat to his power base,

That is one of the keys here. We always seem to miss that these ME leaders don’t see us as their main threat.

Sadam saw us as #3 on his enemies list after Iran and his own people. He had to play a very dangerous game with WMD, convincing the Iranians and that he had them and would use them while convincing the west that he did not have them. There had to be enough ambiguity either way so that Iran would be deterred and we would not have justification for further action.

In the end he blew it, but then we blew it monumentally by invading. Our actions completely upset the balance and did Iran a huge favor by DESTOYING Baathist Iraq, which was not only their biggest and most unstable rivals in the region but also one of the leading suppressors of Shiite people.

Iran sees us as 2 or 3 after the Saudis and ISIS (we helped them get rid of their traditional rival, Baathist Iraq) Israel is up there as well, but they know exactly what lines not to cross with Israel.

The Saudis and Pakistanis have us fooled.

Smitty-

Loking at the timeline you gave, were you with 1-68 AR? I was at the Provincial Police HQ there attached to 1-68 during that time.

19D2OR4 - Smitty

Indeed I was. HHC-Recon Platoon of 1-68 to be exact. We ran QRF the entire year we were there.

Fight Like Hell, brother.

19D2OR4 - Smitty

Oddly enough, that was never our motto. The 68ths motto is Ventre a’ Terre. Which translates as “Bellies to the Ground”. The battalion CSM at the time didn’t like that, and made sure everyone knew after he took over than Ventre a’ Terre meant “Fight Like Hell”.
