Petraeus to plead guilty?

| March 3, 2015

CNN reports that David Petraeus is expected to plead guilty to charges that he lost control of classified material when federal agents found the stuff on Paula Broadwell’s, his girlfriend, computer.

Gen. David Petraeus is expected to plead guilty to federal charges to end a probe into whether he provided classified information to his mistress when he was CIA chief, according to a U.S. official briefed on the matter.

An announcement about the proposed plea agreement could come later Tuesday.

The New York Times first reported the plea deal talks, which would effectively end the Justice Department investigation.

From the New York Times;

Mr. Petraeus will plead guilty to one count of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison. Mr. Petraeus has signed the agreement, said Marc Raimondi, a Justice Department spokesman.

[…]

The plea deal spares Mr. Petraeus a high-profile trial where embarrassing details about the affair would have been presented to the jury and made public. Mr. Petraeus is still married to Holly Petraeus.

So, there you go – another flag officer, one that the Left hates anyway, offers himself up for sacrifice. But, yeah, let’s waste training time on teaching the enlisted ranks about improper sexual conduct.

Enough blood to operate a dick and a brain but not at the same time.

Nicki

Oh, that made me chuckle hard!

Arby

More like “Enough blood to operate one brain, but not both.”

JohnC

“Enough blood to operate a dick and a brain but not at the same time.”

“….And that’s a promise!”
— Gen. Petraeus, using the best pickup line ever.

“But, yeah, let’s waste training time on teaching the enlisted ranks about improper sexual conduct.”

But what would we do with the 12-16 hours of drill weekend we normally do that? Actually train?

Maybe he’ll get the Sandy Berger Plea Deal special…..

And the media will completely ignore hillary clinton’s illegal use of a private e-mail account to conduct all of her Deaprtment of State business during her entire term.

Sparks

Arby…Thank you! Funny isn’t it how the IRS can lose whatever they need to cover their asses and Hillary can use Hotmail or some such for State Department business. Wonder if any of her Benghazi emails of truth were among them? Shouldn’t be hard to hack.

What’s funny is how any enemy of obozo’s, they can dig until they find something, but in obozo’s case, they can’t find his kenya birth cert, even tho it was on the web, they can’t find his college transcripts (probably because there are none) can’t find anything about two adopted girls, can’t find anything on michaels sex change, geez, makes you wonder if the actually FIND anything or make it up??

Two basic rules; especially for Commanders

Sleep with your own wife/husband
Spend your own money

Remember those and you probably will have a decent career.

I’d still like to know whether he physically gave something substantial (current intel reports), if it was just telling her something, or if it was giving out a market document (like his schedule).

MrBill

I haven’t been able to find confirmation of exactly what happened to Broadwell’s military career. Her promotion to LTC was revoked in 2013 and that was widely reported, but I’ve seen nothing of any substance since. The NYT article linked above refers to her as a former Army Reserve officer, and I can’t find her on AKO, so I think it’s a good bet that she was allowed to resign quietly. Had she been prosecuted or involuntarily separated, I would have expected to see that in the news.

Hondo

Hmm. Revoked promotion, not on AKO. That implies “not retired from the USAR”.

But I’m not so sure we’d have heard about an invol admin discharge. I’m pretty sure that info is not typically something that’s FOIA-releasable. If that’s the case, it’s possible we might not know about such an involuntary discharge unless the individual concerned made it public. I believe the same is true for “voluntary OTH/in lieu of” discharges, but I could be wrong.

MrBill

You may be right about that. Just to be clear, though, when I said “resign” I meant resign her commission, as opposed to retiring. (As far as I know, she hadn’t reached 20 qualifying years of service, although her published service history is not very detailed.)

Hondo

Understood regarding the use of “resign”, MrBill.

Best I can tell, it’s not possible she had achieved 20 YOS. She’s a 1995 West Point grad, and went there directly after graduating high school in 1991. No mention anywhere I can find that she was in the NG or USAR prior to entering West Point, either.

Time at West Point doesn’t count as military service towards pay or retirement if the graduate accepts a commission. Without some prior service time, the earliest she could have attained 20 YOS would be this summer.

“They are highly classified, some of them… I mean there’s code word stuff in there,” Petraeus said. Nevertheless, he emailed her and agreed to provide the black books.

HAHAHAHA A man will hand anything over to a woman who seduces him. Y’all are just too easy!

Hondo

Lady, if true this is not a laughing matter. That type of information in the wrong hands is seriously bad news.

Jordan Rott

If this was an enlisted E4 he would get burned at the stake

Anonymous in Jax

EXACTLY! Nevermind the embarrassment that the freakin Director of the CIA handed over highly classified material to the girl he was bangin…..he’ll get a slap on the wrist at most….that’s what I’m betting.

John S.

But he might have the right to have a sex change operation (ala Bradley Manning), if he cries loud enough.

To paraphrase an old saying in police work

“A cadet will not lie cheat or steal or tolerate those that do.”

Too bad it didn’t carry over into his commissioned military career and personal life.

Lied to the FBI when confronted? Now I see why he resigned from the CIA so quickly when the mistress story broke.

The higher you go…the higher the standards? Not in this case. Sadly it seems rampant in today’s military. And the military does reflect today’s society in many ways

I agree with the earlier statements: “If he was an E4″…hell if he was a captain he would be burned as well.

Power corrupted? Narcassism? Plain old dumb-ass? I think all of the above. A manager…not a leader. Should have done his initial military commitment and gone to the civilian corporate world…instead of bringing the corporation to the military. Several years ago I attended a speech he gave at a press club luncheon. Block checking politician wearing a uniform was my and several others take.

I hate this scumbag. Petraeus ain’t worth a bayonet to the Army.

Instead of carrying out his mission and trying to win the war, he went on fuckin dates.

While an unknown number of soldiers were returning home to cheating wives, Petraeus was playing Jody. Petraeus should get prison time.

What a shitbag.

Commissioner Wretched

I just have to hope (for Gen. Petraeus’ sake) she was worth it.
