Air Force Band flash mob
PapaMAS sends us a link to af.mil which reports about the flash mob that the Air Force perpetrated on visitors to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. It was actually really good;
But, you know, I’m a cynic and I couldn’t help but think how much money is being spent on that huge band that could be spent on other more important things. The Pentagon slashes personnel, training and equipment while they cling to public relations monstrosities like the Air Force Band.
But, seriously folks, good job. I’m just an old curmudgeon firmly rooted in reality.

How long before CAIR complains?
Cancel one Moochelle trip and all Service bands could be funded for ages. I like them. But I’m a geezer softee.
Cool article, would have enjoyed being there for this.
The band isn’t the financial problem Jonn, it’s shit like the F-35….it’s shit like protecting all the wizards at the PP while canning all the mid-grades.
It’s shit like spending billions to try and reconstruct a nation that’s no worse and no better after 12 years of US occupation and conflict…it’s making sure that Apple gets its corporate welfare and the troops get a pay cut. Making sure that billionaires get tax incentives to outsource work to fucking China is what brings us to this point.
The military bands are small potatoes compared to the bloat at the IRS, the DoE, etc…
And DoD wouldn’t see a dime. It would go to something like a “Rev” Sharpton Conversations Initiative
Flash mob? I didn’t know those were still the “In Thing” to do anymore.
Can’t be a flash mob. No one is wearing an old, dirty raincoat. (smile)
Is this really a flash mob? I thought it had to look excessively gay and annoying to be a flash mob. These lads and lassies looked neither gay not annoying.
I never watch internet videos longer than a couple of minutes all the way through. For this one, I make an exception. The reaction of the children is classic, particularly the little girl in the red dress at the beginning. What a special moment. Yeah, I’ll vote to keep funding PR because the military needs it, and as SJ noted, there’s plenty of other spots to cut.
But, like SJ also said, CAIR, and the ACLU, the American Atheists and others of their ilk will get the undies in a bunch, having been traumatized and scarred by this searing display of propaganda from the consolidated church-state hegemony. The AF Band disappears in 3…2…1…
They also did this last year or the year before. And played religious carols. But, these days….
SJ…If the Democrats win in 2016, they’ll only be playing Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop”. A Clinton favorite.
As much as I adore you, you old curmudgeon, I think you’re wrong on this one. This is a morale booster for both the military folks and us civilians. The AF Band, the Thunderbirds, the Blue Angels…all of them need to stay. The monetary cuts need to come from somewhere else.
THAT was amazing. 🙂
Talk about getting your dollar’s worth out of the cost of admission!
Wish I’d been there to experience it.
That was good. Just a chuckle here, but thinking “What did you do in the Air Force, Grandpa?” “I played the French Horn…er I mean I was a PJ Delta Commando.” Seriously though, good video.
One of the Horn players tutored my daughter. She got a small music scholarship because of his efforts. It is very competitive to get in…probably because most musicians can’t make a living!
I know I have advocated reverting the Air Force back to the USAAF of old, but the USAF Band did an excellent job here that reflected very highly on the on Air Force. The setting of the Museum made it all the more beautiful.
I for one say this should become a tradition every Christmas season henceforth! I intend to take my family there one day, and I pray that I could provide such a wonderful experience for my daughter and as-yet-unborn future children. If the bleeding hearts are too butthurt over a Christmas show in DC, then do it the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson. Make Memphis Belle the centerpiece once her restoration is complete–how cool would that be? Cooler than John Wayne, Steve McQueen, and Charles Bronson appearing in “Expendables 4,” that’s how cool that would be!
If the goddamn Atheists can post billboards proclaiming that there is no such thing as Santa Claus or God, then the Air Force band can by God play Christmas music at the Air and Space museum.
Fuck a bunch of fucking butthurt Atheist fucks and the fucking fucked up horse they fucking rode the fuck in on.
Are you feeling okay, Master Guns? You seem to be holding something back. You should just let it out!
😉
That second para reminds me of Ralphie in Christmas Story saying that his dad’s profanity hung out there in space for eternity. That para is enshrined somewhere 🙂
I’m sorry, your point was too subtle for me;)
That was great!
I’m glad y’all liked it! Service rivalries can provide many a good moment to share. But when I saw this, I felt a kind of pride like I had back in ’02 or ’03 when members of the 82d (IIRC – coulda been the 101st, my apologies to both divisions!) serenaded the staff at Andrews AFB while passing through on their way to the sandbox. Well, at least the AF Band won’t be shot at, though. 😉
This is why we have the greatest military in the world!
Even our bands will KICK OUR ENEMIES ASS!
This is OUTSTANDING!
Gay.
Go grab a rifle and shoot a bad guy. So tired of seeing non war fighting bullshit by our military during a time of war.
Gay? Respectfully,I disagree. I thought it was a great way of showing the civilian populace that the military is capable of “getting it right” even in a time of war.
So let me get this straight. The air force band has cellos, harps and little kenny g horns, and the other services, well I think they just make fun of them for it. That’s what I learned today.
How the hell is somebody supposed to march with a harp?
That wasn’t the portion of the band that does marches. It was the concert/symphony part of the overall 177 member band stationed at Bolling Air Base. It is not like the field bands we have in the Army and Marines.
I was a “band nerd” growing up. I played the Tuba/Sousaphone/Euphonium in my little school band starting in the fifth grade until graduation. To hear instrumental music actually being played in the manner that the composer intended was a refreshing pleasure and “music to my ears”. The way today’s “creative artists” bastardize music (i.e., our National Anthem) is nothing short of atrocious, especially when it comes to televised sporting events. So I completely support our military band performances and the joy they bring to everyone, both civilian and military. OK,end of rant.
99% agree, but Madison Rising kicks ass with their rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner. Nobody else should be allowed to play it at the Super Bowl except them.
