Wednesday morning feel good story
Chief Tango sends us our feel good stories again this morning, the first is from Ohio where four teens invaded a home and now one is dead and three are facing murder charges;
Franklin County detectives say Pickens, and two 17-year-olds helped [Reb] Barbee break into a home on Hubbard Drive. A woman asleep upstairs awoke to find the teen in her house, wearing an Insane Clown Posse mask and wielding a knife. Detectives say that woman shot Barbee in the back before he ran out of the house.
Sherriff Zach Scott says Pickens tried to make up a story during the 911 call because he didn’t know what to do. Those decisions, Scott says, sealed their fate. “They went out to commit a crime and someone got killed and they were trying to cover their tracks and during this time period somebody dies.”
Three people are charged in the crime. Adam Pickens, 18, is facing murder and complicity to commit aggravated burglary charges. The two 17-year-olds, Tyler Blazer and Brandon Hamilton are also facing murder and complicity charges.
The next story is from California;
A suspect remained hospitalized Tuesday after police say he was shot by a homeowner during an attempted robbery.
The shooting happened around 11:15 p.m. Monday in the 6200 block of Matilija Avenue in Van Nuys, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Authorities said a man found the suspect in his home, a struggle ensued and several shots were fired.

TWO feel good stories! They go well with a cup of nice, fresh, Navy-strength coffee. 🙂
“Navy strength” coffee?
The Army calls that…”warm water” 🙂
These feel good stories are all well and good and I applaud home owners for protecting their property. That being said I would like this site to follow up on the court decisions concerning these use of firearms.
In the first story, one of the perps was shot in the back. This indicates that the threat was over and she did not have to shoot him. Prosecutors have convicted on less than this. BZ to all those who can and will protect what is theirs.
Perhaps the victim in the first story can use the John Kerry defense: still in the AO and and still a potential threat.
The guy was armed with a knife and still in the house when shot. Yes, I’d argue he was still a threat. It appears the authorities agree, as his three accomplices have been charged with his murder; no mention of any charges against the homeowner.
If the homeowner enters the room and the intruder is facing her sons bed with a knifeI would expect him to get shot in the back. The homeowner doesn’t know how many other intruders are in the house and where they are. She should eliminate the known threat, secure her family and prepare to fight other threats. Home defense is not an a sporting competition, her duty is to protect her family.
