That Stolen Valor victimless crime
You all know the story, we took part in this thing a few months ago, and it’s finally getting the attention that it deserves. But, when you comment, please keep names out of your comment. This is a news story that was on ABC27 in York, Pennsylvania last night.
“When people lie about being in the military, or even more common, when those who served in the military embellish their records. These are not harmless liars. According to U.S census, for out of five guys that claim service in Vietnam are lying about it. That is how bad this problem is,” said Shipley.
Shipley gets hundreds of emails a week about potential phony Navy Seals. He is one of few people entrusted with the Navy Seal database and can verify in a few key stokes if the people are the real deal or fakes. In some cases he calls the fakes and confronts them about their lies. He posts his public shamings on YouTube.
“If I take down a phony Seal, I am taking down a whole bunch of you clowns with them, your Marine embellishers, your Army, whatever. Protecting the valor of all those guys is serious,” said Shipley.

I must have missed this one, because I’m not sure who it’s about. Can I get a hint?
I figured it out. All by myself!
He is an individual that has been profiled here, but I will not provide the name or link as Jonn has requested, but I have a good feeling that this person will hopefully face federal fraud charges for false VA claims.
I already looked at the original post. Thanks though.
I agree he needs to be prosecuted and thrown in the clink.
And if posers are smart, they become Anti-SEALs like me. Check me out in anti-SEAL training in Russia (even if to the untrained eye it appears to be three old fat guys in a pool). The photo is on the top of page 25 of this link:

Shipley does nothing about Anti-SEALs.
sincerely

If this scum-sucker sold his personal honor for $2000, what would it take for he (and others like him) to betray our country?
There has to be jail time associated with ANY stolen valor that is proven.
Can someone repost the video in a comment box, it ain’t working for me.
Thanks!
You should be able to see it here:

Good to see this getting some publicity – maybe the feds will look into it. If he’s claiming PHs that he didn’t actually receive, and if he’s benefiting monetarily as a result, that would appear to be a violation of the revised SV Act.
I actually normally give someone the benefit of the doubt a lot of times. I was MEDVAC out of country due to an IED and was later medically retired. My PH was pinned on me at Bagram but I never actually got the orders for it.
When I was retired I was told the award was pending and that I would receive a DD215 in the mail at some point with the certificate. Fast forward to 2012 I finally got my PH certificate, medal, and DD-215.
Although I did have a CAR but I no PH. It said I was medically retiring (combat related) but not PH. It bugged me for a long time but at least I got it corrected. It really was not that hard. All I had to do was copy a few pages out of medical record and as the magicians say “WA-LA”.
If this guy was injured I would challenge him to show his medical record. Claiming 3 PHs is quit a lot especially for OIF or OEF. Where are all this guys Marine buddies? No doubt the dude is full of shit! Is this the guy who took the money from the kid?
I don’t have to pay the legal bills at TAH, so I can only speculate. This seems to be typical poser 101 tactics. He had (at last count) 10 self serving articles written about him and his difficulty adjusting to civ. life. His claims (and his bloody snowman) are a matter of public record as his is (no CAR) service record. Now he seeks anonymity. The party(s) who tried to do the right thing can’t show his face in front of a camera. Hello world.
As much trouble as I have had over the almost 2 decades dealing with the VA, I hope to hell this turd gets fried by the Feds for defrauding the VA.
Yep.
Visited his facebook page and found some folks that are friends of friends in the Jacksonville, NC area that liked or commented on his recent posts. One has already contacted me, surprised that he would do such a thing. She said she would contact him to make it right. I wonder how that will go?
Airborne, I spoke with John and asked him to pass my number to you. I’d like to speak with you. my investigation and efforts have only just begun
Hope you guys nail this scumbag!!
Is there anything I can do just ask
Can I help in any way?
OK, waiting on his email
Airborne can I ask a. Question ?
Ask away.
Airborne , why is there such an Increase in stolen valor lately? What has happened for this spike in fakers and frauds? It is especially hard for me to see it as I am a 100 percent p and t combat vet just seems like any fool can parade around with store bought valor while real vets like myself deal with the aftermath of combat physically and mentally thanks. Todd
It is very simple why stolen valor frauds have sky rocketed the last few years.
The first being the original Stolen Valor Act being ruled unconstitutional.
The next and biggest reason for the spike in the frauds has to do with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Unlike the treatment shown to the redeployed vets of Vietnam, which were looked at with disdain and contempt by the general population, the returning vets of both Iraq and Afghanistan are given a hero’s welcome. Those that have never served see this as an opportunity to bask in the glory of something that they have never earned. As for the veterans that embellish their service record is for pure economic gain in any way they can get it, ie, they receive fraudulent compensation just like our ass hat above from both private and government sources, they use embellished records to help get jobs, schoolin and so forth.
The second Stolen Valor Act is what this was supposed to have covered just the economic gain from their fraud, but as we have seen here time and time again, the government simply refuses to prosecute these sorry ass holes.
Thank you for explaining it to me I now have a betterunderstanding of what an issue this has become
It is nothing new. What we are seeing is the latest iteration. Somewhere on this site (damned if I can find it right now) is an electronic version of a book that was published over 50 years ago. The book is full of stolen valor cheats and con men who were wreaking havoc post WWI and WW2. It seemed to have existed on a wide scale back then. With today’s speed and access to communication (Facebook, internet news, blogs etc.) it probably seems worse although I question that it is. I think it is safe to say that the phonies get nailed much faster in the modern age.
If anyone can find a link to that book that was posted here within the past 2 years, I sure would appreciate it.
It was; Wartime Racketeers written by Harry Lever and Joseph Young I wrote about it here.
Thank you Sir! I am ordinarily a good search monkey on this site but I hit the wall on trying to find that book. I will bookmark it this time.
i also read an artcle about posing being very widespread after the civil war
This Todd Davis guy looksa little sketchy, possibly a troll. Bleeding heart liberal security guard, talks about time in the Army and the Marines. 5th SF Group hat, OIF hat, no pics in uniform, drops a lot of names.
Airborne I’m not trying to be anything than what I am a vet like you. I asked TAH about the hat and ring. I have a 214 and a vmet my fb acct is open to you if you need to look I am a disabled vet. Have been since 2007 I came to this site to because I wanted to ask questions and more importantly to interact with my brothers and sisters. If I have in anyway given a wrong impression I am sorry. But I neither have not will do anything to be ashamed of in or out of uniform. Airborne I thank you for your service and would be happy to answer any. ? You have brother
I’m not a liberal but at one time I was a security guard. I worked nights so I didn’t have to deal with lots of folks I’m sure you can understand that. Plus it was the only job that would work with me going to night school on the post 911 gi bill. Got off school went to work till. 7 am. Airborne I don’t think that makes me any less a vet sir, when I finally got to the point where my disabilities were too much I lived off my 90 percent VA until I got p and t last year . So you are right on the ex security guard thing but I ask you to consider my reasons. Again thanks. Todd
Pretty new here and I know some of you guys have been around a while I respect you and your service as fellow vets. But if there is anyone who thinks I am a troll or not quite sure if you believe who I say I am please don’t hesitate to ask always willing to talk to my brothers and sisters. Very Respectfully. Todd
