Pet Dinosaur killed, Student arrested

| August 22, 2014

WCSC form South Carolina reports That Alex Stone was  suspended for completing a creative writing assignment.   Now as Paul Harvey would have said “The rest of the Story”

Alex was given a writing assignment on his first day back at school to  write Facebook post based in the future about an event. So he wrote the he killed his neighbors pet dinosaur in one post,  then he wrote that he bought a gun to “take care of business”.

He could have used a better choice of words,  But the school contacted the police, Alex had his person and his locker searched. Alex got upset and got arrested.

Attorney David Aylor, who is representing 16-year-old Alex Stone, said his client’s arrest over a creative writing assignment on Tuesday was “completely absurd,” and is seeking to appeal the suspension and “proceed with the legal issues of [Stone’s] arrest.”

“This is a perfect example of ‘political correctness’ that has exceeded the boundaries of common sense,” Aylor said in a statement released on Thursday.”Students were asked to write about themselves and a creative Facebook status update – just days into the new school year – and my client was arrested and suspended after a school assignment.”

The School and Police have a different version

“The information that is being reported is grossly incorrect in reference to what led to the juvenile being charged,” said Capt. Jon Rogers in a Summeville police statement released on Thursday.”The charges do not stem from anything involving a dinosaur or writing assignment, but the student’s conduct.”

I know a new High School freshman that has to read and write about “To Kill a Mockingbird” I guess she just needs to turn in a copy of the 5th amendment instead.

So basically what I got from that was the following synopsis:

Kid gets an assignment

Kid writes the word gun on the internet as part of the assignment

School calls police because kid mentioned a gun in an assignment.

Police come and hassle the kid over what should be a non-issue.

Kid gets pissed off be because the police and school are hassling him over what should be a non-issue.

Police arrest kid for being upset. School suspends kid because he was arrested.

WTF is happening to this country?

MrBill

A bootstrap on top of a bootstrap.

Grimmy

“WTF is happening to this country?”

In general, it’s called “The Long March”. The Domestic Enemy, which most of us are sworn to prosecute against in the same manner as a foreign enemy, bragged in the early ’70s that they were gonna do it… and we’ve sat on our hands, refused to act on the oath, and let it happen.

In this particular, it is also amplified by the grotesque degeneracy that is the national teachers’ union.

Delilah T.

Wow. The stoopid is truly strong with those people.

Gee, I’m sure they won’t like ‘Tom Sawyer’, either, because Tom conned his friends into doing his work for him. And they won’t approve of ‘The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood’, because he became an outlaw when he shot and killed one of the King’s yeomen with his longbow.

I think ALL of those people need to get some professional help with their problem.

Better burn all remaining copies of “Bambi” too. That right-wing NRA member teaparty lovin’ hunter killed Bambi’s mom!

OLDAV8R

..And better not go ANYWHERE near Huck Finn IFYWIMAITYD

Shalom

Oh, Huck Finn is still read in schools.

Just not the version that Twain wrote.

“Summerville police officials say Stone’s book bag and locker were searched on Tuesday, and a gun was not found.”

Have the found the dinosaur yet?? No mention of that.

What a bunch of idiots…
Out.

GDContractor

Ha! They found skittles and issued BOLO Unicorn.

ChipNASA

I have zero tolerance for zero tolerance policies.

My kids will never have to put up this this bullshit.

/book it….FIN.

Gravel

Fortunately my son is a grown man, and out on his own … and doing quite well.

However, this story, and many like them, are the reason that if I ever do have another child they will never, ever set foot in a public school.

The Other Whitey

The term “educated idiots” comes to mind.

Hondo

Other Whitey: I prefer the term “Brainwashed Half-Educated Fools”. IMO it fits this situation a bit better.

Farflung Wanderer

I don’t even..

My poor brother… He’s got three more years of these morons.

I leave for Hillsdale tomorrow… Can’t wait to be free of this madness.

GDContractor

Hillsdale! Good on ya!

Holy crap, whatever happened to discretion?

Someone was concerned because of the use of the language, which in context I might be inclined to understand.

Once investigated and no weapon discovered, why not apologize to the kid?

Why assume he’s a mass murdering monster and treat him that way after you search his gear and realize he was completing an assignment given to him by one of the staff members? Maybe he chose an odd story and one maybe inappropriate, but that’s the problem with “creative writing”not everyone creates the nice little unicorn and snowflake bubbles the pablum pukers in the public school administration are trying to create amongst their student body.

The problem with 16 years olds, is that they quite often make 16 year old mistakes….it would be nice if the people entrusted with teaching them, and those entrusted with protecting them would remember that and not assume that after they are cleared of any ill intent the kid is still a shit bag.

Hondo

As I said above, VOV: “brainwashed, half-educated fools”.

BHEFs might be a very popular acronym arriving in my vernacular on a regular basis moving forward….

Apparently, he’s not the only one who shoots dinosaurs:

And, my have times have changed. In 1958 you could get a license to hunt dinosaurs:

The Other Whitey

When I was in 6th Grade, way back in 1996, they gave us a creative writing assignment not unlike this one. I chose to write one based on hunting trips with my Dad, uncles, and cousins. This story featured me (gasp!) carrying a loaded gun (Winchester ’94 to be exact–my gun-nerd status began in utero and was well developed by that point) and using that gun to commit a “violent” act: shooting and killing a large mulie buck at the successful conclusion of the hunt. My teacher, who was an outspoken liberal, didn’t bat an eye, didn’t have a conniption over the mention of a firearm, didn’t call my parents, or any if that crap. What did he do? Gave me an A- for completing the assignment with only a few small errors.

This was at a southern California public school! Granted, it was a small school in a small town where everybody knows everybody and the 4th Grade teacher two rooms over happened to be my Grandma (taught 4th Grade to all of her grandkids, including me) who would’ve roasted his ass on a spit if he gave me any undeserved shit. My 6th Grade teacher, flaming liberal though he was, possessed a few ounces of maturity and the common sense God gave the average cockroach and recognized that there was nothing abnormal or psychotic about gun ownership or deer hunting.

Nowadays he’d probably get his teaching credential revoked for daring to use his head rather than initiating a sandy-vagina panic over the mention of an inanimate object. What the hell happened to our schools?

Just an Old Dog

The story isn’t making a lot of sense. The kid talking about killing a nieghbor’s pet ( even if it was a make believe Dinosaur) sounds like he is a bit off.
It doesn’t say in what other context he was using “getting a gun to take care of business”.
It could be the kid is one of those that the teacher thinks just might pull off something like that.
From what I understand it was the interaction with police during the search that led to him being arrested.

Valerie

The sad thing is, the story as originally published is believable. I have one son in college, and one in high school. What I have seen of high school management lately fits with this story.

I really want to know what kind of training we are giving our school administrators, because there are too many luridly stupid stories hitting the news, and the one from Scripps Ranch High School (the great tweaking incident) was actually as stupid as reported.

Just an Old Dog

Scripps Ranch in San Diego?
I havent heard of that one yet.

The Other Whitey

Tweaking? You mean the “twerking” thing? Admittedly, if my daughter had been one of those girls, my strong inclination would have been to shoot the little bastard with the camera and/or drag his ass behind my truck for 50 or 60 miles, or at the very least tune his ass up. But they probably did blow that bullshit out of proportion.

Hell, watching the local news at the time, you’d think they had made some kind of underage gangbang porn video (would DEFINITELY shoot somebody for that). It was inappropriate and I’m sure the smirking little fucker was holding the camera with ine hand while playing pocket pool with the other, but it didn’t warrant the 15 minutes of fame they gave it.

jonp

The problem here lies not only with the school but also with cops. On arriving at the school and hearing the entire story the cop should have arrested the principle fir waisting his time and the teacher for criminal public retardedness

Are there statutes of limitations on these things?
On or about one day in 1972ish, the creative writing teacher showed a slide of a fancy New York City apartment with its fine art, furniture, and other treasures. He showed the slide for a moment or so and gave us our assignment. Our assignment was to write about what we saw, how we would react to seeing it in person, and to turn in our work before the end of class. I wrote as though I was a burglar, I couldn’t think of any other reason I would be in such an apartment. The teacher was not amused.
If there are limitations to prosecution; I freely admit that my mind was not armed during this writing assignment as evidenced by the low grade I recall receiving. I also admit I was a minor at the time and that I was not being raised by members of the social elite, so I could not know any better.
