Perry to send Guard to border
The Washington Post reports that Texas Governor Rick Perry isn’t waiting for the President to secure his state’s southern border. Perry is planning to announce today that he’ll fortify the frontier with a thousand National Guard troops;
Perry is among Republicans who have been calling the border situation Obama’s “Katrina,” a reference to the political beating taken by President George W. Bush after federal authorities botched the post-hurricane operation in New Orleans in 2005. It’s a clear signal Republicans will use the border crisis against any Democratic contender in 2016.
“If the federal government does not do its constitutional duty to secure the Southern border of the United States, the state of Texas will do it,” Perry said Sunday at a Republican barbecue in Iowa.
[…]
Perry, who has been asking Obama to make the call, recently told Fox News Sunday that mobilizing the troops now is important “because this flood of children is pulling away the border patrol from their normal duties of keeping bad people, keeping the drug cartels, they’re being distracted, so that I would suggest is a very obvious reason that those National Guard troops should come play an important role.”
The Associated Press tells the story of the lives of the coyotes who smuggle the illegals into the country;
Many of the children and teenagers who travelled to the United States recently said they did so after hearing they would be allowed to stay. The U.S. generally releases unaccompanied children to parents, relatives or family friends while their cases take years to wend through overwhelmed immigration courts. That reality gave rise to rumors of a new law or amnesty for children.
Some say coyotes helped spread those rumors to drum up new business following a huge drop in Mexicans migrating to the United States

When and if Rick sends TxNG troops to the border, bet your ass they will be unarmed like they were the last time they went.
Hmmm. He doesn’t turn to Chevy’s former “Texas State Guard” (TSG) for something like this? If I paid taxes in TX, I’d wonder why the TSG exists?
How much is spent on the TSG? In the 80’s they issued a cuntcap and a belt and that was it.
Good question. All I know about it was reading Chevy’s BS, so bad on me. I did surf their web site and got the impression they got money. They obviously don’t issue PT belts from the pix that Chevy posted.
What DO they do if they don’t do stuff like this?
If recent history is a guide, the Guard on this domestic op will be required to carry their rifles but prohibited from carrying ammunition. Joe will make many comments such as, “do we use our rifles as clubs?”
I always thought that as the Guard transitions from warfighter mode to its more traditional status, annual training for units around the country should take place at the border supporting the border patrol. Of course, the states would need federal buy-in for funding purposes, because no state can afford to finance a Guard mission like this on its own. For this reason, I wonder how Texas will come up with the money to fund a worthwhile mission vice talking point.
Of all the states in the Union, Tx would be able to actually fund a fairly long term, local deployment of the Guard. States like Arizona, New Mexico and California, not so much.
Well the TX national guard can carry weapons and live ammo in that that are augmenting Texas LEO’s. I’ve done it many times in NYC area since 9-11.
The federal deployment of the guard to the Borders was mostly an unarmed observe do nothing other than report and drive GSA vans of USBP around mission
Let’s wait and see what happens when those on the south side of the border start shooting.
Logically, if you tell me to go stand watch some place, and give me a weapon, I expect to be able to shoot back if someone shoots at me.
If they aren’t allowed to shoot back, then Perry might as well be sending store window mannequins to the border.
It might be more practical to use TXNG Troops at CBP stations in the processing and holding areas, where weapons and rules of engagement aren’t a real issue. That would free up CBP assets for increased patrols.
With the cross-border incursions by the Mexican military, and the recent revelation that the cartels (or military) are firing .50s at our side, I’m just waiting for an incident.
Whether or not the military carry ammunition, there will be an incident. I just hope that none of our boys or girls are injured or worse as a result.
The only way this is not going to end up badly for us is to put the NG on the border, arm them to the teeth, set the ROE to “hit your target when you fire,” and let nature take its course. Otherwise, the cartels will start using our NG for target practice. The only thing the cartels understand is pain. I say give it to them.
Agreed. Either fight to win along the border or stay home to fight the battle in your living room.
If the NG was armed to the teeth and the RUF (Rules for Use of Force–RUF is for domestic ops/ ROE for overseas) permitted deadly force, how long do you think it will be before an organized cartel, smuggling group, or someone else who profits from cross-border movement grabs some migrant kid, ties a toy gun to his arm and forces him to march toward the NG, who will then shoot the kid when he doesn’t surrender? It’s straight from the Palestinian terrorist playbook but is tried-and-true. The media (and president/international peanut gallery) will side with the kid over the NG and its RUFF.
Whether or not they are armed it will be a slap at ovomit and Perry will stand tall for being decisive and a real leader. That is the objective for Perry now, he is trying and succeeding looking presidential as more of the ovomit administration is exposed for the crybaby method of governing that they have shown the entire world since he came to office.
This is all about Perry.
I hope no shots are fired but if they are I have no doubt that Perry will allow a shootback, he understands the impression of weakness and the effect it has on his constituents and the general public at large.
The illegals have overrun this area of Texas and the number continues to increase daily. I see them every day when I go to work at Walmart. Thousands upon thousands are in our store everyday.
It is incredible and the flow have to be cut off.
Well, get ready to be sued by the Federal Government I guess.
