White House media flacks out in force
So, the Bergdahl thing isn’t going the way that the White House wanted. They envisioned a “bin Laden moment redux” but like I said yesterday, they thought that the silence from the military community would continue after Bergdahl’s return. But the folks who bore the burden that Bergdahl foisted upon them with his bizarre journey into the hands of the Haqqani network had held their tongues for five years and felt that the truth needed to be told to the American people, because obviously, the truth wasn’t coming out of the White House too soon.
So the media comes to the administration’s rescue. The New York Times comes right out and tells readers that the troops are lying about casualties they suffered looking for Bergdahl;
CNN has reported in scrolling headlines that six soldiers died looking for Sergeant Bergdahl after senior American military officials say he wandered off his base.
But a review of casualty reports and contemporaneous military logs from the Afghanistan war shows that the facts surrounding the eight deaths are far murkier than definitive — even as critics of Sergeant Bergdahl contend that every American combat death in Paktika Province in the months after he disappeared, from July to September 2009, was his fault.
The troops know what they were looking for – it was right there in their operation orders that they were briefed before they left the wire. They probably rehearsed much of what they expected to encounter. Just because the lily-white, string bean reporters didn’t see it in the AFN reports from the theater while they sat in their offices safe and secure in their cubes, that doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen.
They complain that casualties that occurred as late as September were blamed on Bergdahl. What? Did they think that the troops only looked for as long as the New York Times expressed interest and then quit looking for him? I suspect that they got ti[s from locals for months afterwards that they needed to follow up on, leaving no rock unturned.
Then, this woman who is employed as a journalist for the Miami Herald tells Andrea Mitchell that so what if Obama broke the law to get this deal done…Bush did it first;
I suspect that the Obama Administration wanted to get this deal done quickly because it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission. And when you figure that you don’t have to ask for forgiveness anyway, that makes it so much easier.
BBC, Huffington Post and Talking Points Memo unsurprisingly see a Republican dirty trick. But all of their evidence boils down to Bergdahl’s former mates reaching out to anyone who could help them get their side of the story out and Richard Grenell, a Bush Administration official and Fox news commentator responded to help them out. Ya know what, we do the same thing here at TAH when we want to get your story out, so I don’t see some grand scheme to undermine the Obama Administration – well, except their own grand scheme which seems to have backfired.
What didn’t help their case was that motor-mouth Robert Bergdahl who has turned his son’s release into a political circus verbally hugging our nation’s enemies and advocating for releasing more Guantanamo criminals. I’m pretty sure that his comments had an influence on Bergdahl’s former platoon-mates to come forward.
But, I do feel sorry for the residents of Hailey, Idaho. They’ve spent five years of their lives keeping America’s awareness of Bergdahl alive. They supported his family unaware of the circumstances leading to his capture. The town was emotionally invested in his release and now they don’t get to celebrate that event and close the chapter for them. Aside from the families who lost their sons to the search for Bergdahl, the town of Hailey is the greatest victim in this story.

Seen this “spin” coming when you had someone from the State Department all but calling thos men liars in a press conference, and you have White House “aids” claiming the men were somehow “Swift Boating” the deserter bergdahl.
UnF’ing real how low the administration and its hacks in the media will go to protect the Emporer.
yes, bergdhal should have been brought home(so he can face charges), but the deal they struck for him was in violation of our laws, and extremely lopsided to say the least.
The latest “theory” from the left is even better- one Brandon Friedman, currently of the Department of Housing and Development’s public affairs office and formerly an offical at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs, has started subtly implying that dipshit walked off because his platoon was “long on psychopaths and short on leadership.”
And if that name sounds familiar, that’s because Brandon is the same person here: valorguardians.com/blog/?p=47590
I just saw that series of comments made by him… He needs to be fired now.
I loved how he was deriding everyone else for “jumping to conclusions” based on what those men who were there have stated, as he jumps to conclusions based on what he yanked out of his ass.
I wish we still had the stocks in the town square for idiots like him.
Apparently the psychos were all in the same tent. Didn’t the deserter’s tentmate shoot himself in the foot in the latrine not too long after the deserter disappeared?
Me thinks El Supremo is running out of tricks….
It isn’t going the way the WH wanted because that narcissistic, emptysuited mother fucker of a Commander-in- Chief can only see 2 feet to his mirror. He does not like most liberals, see the bigger picture.
A. He broke the fucking law, AGAIN.
B. Buddy Fucker Extraordinaire’s like BHO need to be forced to resign or Congress must uphold their oath, if the Pied Piper cannot and impeach his sorry ass.
Hey hey hey, its Commander of the Chiefs…
Whoops, looks like Obama started his latest victory lap just a bit too soon.
Honestly, I really don’t think the WH saw this coming, if they had thought about it longer, they probably would not have made a big deal about it.
The WH was looking for something to deflect the publics interest from the VA issues, they probably figured that a “rescue” story would have done that. What they didn’t count on. The soldiers of his units integrity.
By the way, Good Morning TAH.
Ex-344MP…I agree. because Obama is so short sighted he as usual along with his dumb ass administration did not think this all the way through. Obama can’t see past eh desk in his office which he kisses every day saying, “It’s good to be the King”. But he has far too much skin in the game to back off now. he has enough liberal Obama lovers in the media to spin this, deflect the truth, say things like, “No one knows what really happened. The troops he served with have conflicting stories. The deaths caused by searching for him, cannot be determined since they were “routine” patrols and we JUST DON’T HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION WE NEED TO MAKE ANY DETERMINATIONS!” (That last one was the best I’ve heard so far.)
I’ll take the word of his platoon members over anyone else every day of the week and twice on Sundays!
The worst fiction I read was a piece by Major Garrett (who names their kid Major, shades of Catch 22…)
He thinks public dislike of the war is causing the ruckus, and calls the actions of the members of Bergdahl’s platoon “childish, callous, just plain stupid, or a grotesque combination of all three”
http://www.nationaljournal.com/all-powers/the-crucible-of-bowe-bergdahl-20140603
Not in this guy’s defense but I believe you misread this. As he is calling Bergdahl’s actions childish, callous or just plain stupid, and not his platoon members.
“Is part of the rage Bergdahl’s platoon members legitimately feel about his actions—be they childish, callous, just plain stupid, or a grotesque combination of all three”
Not the first and won’t be the last mistake I make, thanks.
And this liberal is hitting social media defending the WH, specifically on the Facebook page created by Bergdahl’s former squad leader. He was pretty much (respectfully) shut down.

The FB page. https://www.facebook.com/groups/288812731285526/
I’m sure there are many other examples.
So let me get this straight, Bergdahl’s platoon mates come out and say he was a weirdo, they are pissed that he deserted them and THEY are now the bad guys? Welcome to fucking Bizarro world, where taking care of Dear Leader takes precedence over the truth.
How much more of this bullshit is going to be hoisted onto the backs of the American people before we wake the fuck up?? This administration is a disgrace. A constant shit show that acts without considering the 2nd and 3rd order effects OR having considered them, just ignores the consequences because they believe so fervently in anything that comes out of Obama’s mouth. The only thing that keeps me from comparing Obama and his administration to Hitler and the Nazi’s is that we still have the 2nd Amendment and at least 50% of our citizens think this guy is as big of a putz as I do. But boy, that other 50% sure are blinded by the bullshit.
No accountability, no humility, no hubris, just a series of acts that continue to detract from our nations standing in the world. I cringe to think what these dipshits will do next.
A vindictive little sexual deviant, piss-poor excuse for a soldier, who got his ass handed to him BY A GIRL when he tried to throw his diminutive weight around and now wants everybody to call him Chelsea is a “hero” and a whistleblower when he alone disputes the official version of events, regardless of evidence.
A proven pathological liar, thief, and traitor who flees to Red China and then Putin’s Russia (such bastions of freedom and justice) is a “hero” and a whistleblower when he alone disputes the official version of events, regardless of evidence.
When an entire platoon of Soldiers who earned their CIBs, who saw their buddies wounded and killed, who knew the deserter personally, all because THEY WERE THERE (which can be and has been easily verified) disagree with the official version of events, and their account is backed up by lots of evidence, they are “psychos,” “bullies,” “meanies,” and all kinds of other bad stuff.
Gotta love that consistency, eh?
And now the flaks and spin doctors are saying that poor Bowe is being Swiftboated. Ain’t this just like the Dems. When the truth is told about a deserter the left likes its swiftboating. When Harry Reid Lies about Romney’s taxes thats truth. Words only mean what the left says they mean.
If the town spent 5 years unaware of the circumstances of his deserting his post then it is their fault for not reading everything about what happened. It was pretty damn fishy right from the start. At best everyone there should have withheld judgement.
None of what I say below should be taken as a defense of PFC B. In the end his decisions led us to where he ended up. What it is, is a reminder that nothing happens in a vacuum and we should strongly consider the sources of information we get. This is going to hurt. Well me anyway, because I actually understand what the WH officials are trying to say here. In my opinion and based upon my particular set of life experiences here’s what I think happened: 1) He joined the Army as much for an adventure as to serve his country. 2) He grew up as a loner, homeschooled, etc, but wasn’t exactly a social outcast. 3) At basic and AIT he earned the reputation of being an ass kisser and spotlight ranger because of the time he spent questioning those DS’s with deployment experience. 4) Upon arrival at his unit, he was classified as “weird” in part because of his reputation from OSUT and because he continued to ask questions of those who’d deployed, began to read and study about the culture and language rather than going bar hopping and visiting strip clubs with his team. 5) His unit began to isolate at him because of his weirdness at NTC. As he grew more and more isolated, he increased his studies, making him more weird and more isolated. 6) He arrived in country and became disillusioned with how the war was being fought and felt like he couldn’t help the people like he needed too. He continued his studies and developed a serious case of xenophila. Now does this excuse what he did? Absolutely NOT. He deserted, and while his rational is his own, his actions are wrong. But we do need to keep in mind that his unit admits to isolating him and treating him like a weirdo just for doing what he thought they should all be doing (learning about the country, culture, and language). Bottom line is he fucked up, and needs to be held accountable for that. But maybe the Army needs to… Read more »
SGT Kane are you a chick? Because last I checked, that shit can happen anywhere! And war or not, there are no excuses for what he did.
By your thinking, because I was vertically challenged with big boobs, I should have cried and whined and felt picked on by my CO for razzing the only person in the unit with huge knockers like mine– and then I should have defected to Russia…Nope, this is a zip up your mansuit moment and take your goddamn licks. No excuses other than he was a fucking sympathizer. Period. And under UCMJ, he will.
Nope, not a chick.
And I suspect that you didn’t read my entire post, or if you did you didn’t get that I’m in complete agreement with you. What he did was wrong, and he needs to be held accountable for it.
The point I’m trying to make, is that the Army failed him, and his unit failed him. And in the rush to punish him and blame the President for a stupid and uneven trade for him, that is being missed.
Look at it this way. He did what he thought he should be doing (and what we are all told we should be doing prior to deployment), he ended up cast as a brown noser and spot light ranger as a result. He became branded as weird and was further isolated. If he’d have sucked started his M4 as a result, we’d be having an entirely different conversation than we are now.
So do do a 15-6, give him his BCD, bust him back to e1, kick his happy ass out, and make it clear that he can’t keep any profits from any book he writes about his criminal activity. While at the same time take a look at how we train our soldiers and how we integrate them into their units.
You left out a key word: deluded.
Jackass tried to join the French Foreign Legion and was “crushed” when they rejected him. It is obvious by some accounts that he considered himself morally superior… the moral merc. with the heart of gold….um yeah.
Two things:
The platoon members who’ve gone public deserve to be heard. Bergdahl fucked himself and them over when he left. There’s no reason they shouldn’t be heard.
Second, that reporter from Miami can fuck herself sideways with an aircraft carrier! She was a fucking bitch to my soldiers and me when she couldn’t take her mini bino’s into the courtroom for the first commission’s held at GTMO in August 2004. Why the bino’s? She wanted to be able to read the documents being held by the US attorneys. She spoke glowingly of the detainees and didn’t have enough curse words to spout at us.
I was wondering how long it would take before we started hearing the “B” word that media and pop culture seem to love so much: “Bullied.” That’s the story they’re going with. Bergdahl was “bullied” by his platoon-mates and the chain of command did nothing about it (or actively encouraged it), therefore Bergdahl had no recourse but to go over the hill.
That’s my guess as to how this will play out. Bergdahl will be given an honorable discharge as a SSG and his ~$300k in back pay and per diem. I’d put money on it.
I hope not. Bottom line is, that no matter what his reasoning is, he’s still the guy who took action. And I don’t think he was bullied, just isolated and left to his own devices rather than being developed into a team player. But either way, he deserted and needs to be held accountable for it.
I strongly suspect that he’s going end up with a reduction in rank, a big chicken dinner, and 30 days confinement. After that he’ll be a darling of the anti-war movement, write a New York Times best seller, and remain in the public eye until its no longer convenient for him to do so. Then much like Cindy Sheehan he’ll fade away.
Now they’re getting desperate, drunkle Joe’s out of the dungeon and in front of the cameras.
0bama has now done more than Johnson, Clinton, and Nixon combined. However, the DoJ is not even considering an investigation and Hairy Read won’t even consider bringing an Impeachment trial to the Senate.
I think the silence from Landstuhl Regional Medical Center is deafening.
I suspect he is his own worst enemy and they don’t want him talking yet.
Maybe he’s more than stupid enough to run his mouth to the liberal media and really fuck himself over? I hope so, I’s love to see this be a perpetual egging for B. Hussein 0bama & Company!!
If you don’t want your day ruined don’t watch this state department lady’s mouth move:
http://scaredmonkeys.com/2014/06/04/obama-state-department-spokeswoman-marie-harf-suggests-fellow-soldiers-arent-reliable-sources-on-sgt-bowe-bergdahl/
Spoken like a true liberal: the guys who were there dont know what they’re talking about, but the people who only know the talking points fed to the New York Times are experts.
I don’t listen to anything this administration says anymore. I hate being lied to, and that is all they know to do. They can’t tell the truth because that will open the great Reader up as an incompetent political hack. You can stop talking Obama, we are not listening anymore.
