Taliban wants to release Bergdahl, but….
The Associated Press reports that the Taliban is ready to deal in regards to the release of Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, the soldiers who has been their prisoner for five years, but they can’t find anyone to deal with to secure his release;
Bergdahl’s captors are anxious to release him, according to a defense official and a military officer, who both spoke to The Associated Press only on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case publicly.
“Elements in all echelons — from the top of the Taliban down to the folks holding Bergdahl — are reaching out to make a deal,” the defense official said.
The military officer, who said the effort was marred by distrust on both sides, said those holding Bergdahl have indicated what they would be willing to do to prove to the U.S. government that they want to deal, but that the U.S. has not formally responded to that outreach.
This is not my shocked face. While I don’t completely believe the Taliban or the Haqqani network, or whoever, I do get the sense that this administration’s clown car ride of diplomats, led by John Kerry, are more than capable of screwing this up beyond recognition. Of course, the Taliban could always drop him off in a basket, wrapped in swaddling clothes at a local mosque if they really wanted to get rid of him that bad.

Jonn, we have got more important shit to do, like make sure that Bradley fucking Manning gets to be a girl. We cannot be bothered with securing the release of one of our own.

The Taliban leadership isn’t nearly as stupid as they look. As the war starts to wind down and they realize that they have won, Sgt. Bergdahl presents them with a dilemma. If they keep him after the withdrawal all that will do is give the U.S. all the more reason to keep up surveillance and operations in the region.(more so then we will do already) If they kill him, then they must provide proof of having done so if they want that surveillance to stop, the results of which may provoke events which lead the U.S. to stay even longer. The only real solution which takes the heat off of them is to negotiate a release, while at the same time trying to get something that benefits them.
Put him in taxi and drop him in front of the US embassy. What could be easier than that. Guy get out of taxi, taxi drives off, guy goes up to gate and tells the guard his name. Stuff will happen, guy goes home. Of course we can never trust him again and he will be under surveillance for a long time. Is this the guy that decided to walk home from the combat zone? If so he has an appointment with the Jag officer I’m sure.
Bowe Did NOT Walk Off from his post, Desert or Trade sides. This is all “HERESAY & “GOSSIP” Started by those who are just trying to stir up more trouble, than is already is concerning Bowe Bergdahl. I have been in the Bowe Awareness Mission & Campaign since day 1 of his capture, and i am in personal contact with his family, friends and Loved ones in Hailey, Idaho. They, In Hailey, Idaho will back me up when I say “BOWE BERGDAHL WAS, WITHOUT ANY DOUBT, CAPTURED AGAINST HIS WILL”.
However this plays out, my family and I pray that it will end up with the young man back in the US, safe and sound.
I wish that this young man is returned to us, alive and well. He has lots of explaining to do. He will probably be PVT Manning cell mate when he gets home. The Taliban just wants to much in return for this one man. Glad that he’s still alive, but one man is not worth everything in the bank.
There are multiple versions of how he managed to get himself captured, plus reports of his “joining” the Taliban and training their fighters. But none of it has been proven one way or the other.
Are you saying he’s a willing captive ?
Get him back safely if possible, what comes afterwards for the Taliban can wait to be discussed after we get the young man back.
They want guns, money and the end of surveillance.
If we blow them up after we get our guy back there won’t be any need for surveillance…or money or guns.
VOV I agree. Get him home safely first. Use the “the checks in the mail” approach, then renege on the deal and bomb hell out of them later anyway.

I would like very much to have some guns and money.
Will the United States please give ME some guns and money.
As for surveillance, I reckon it would probably be a waste of time and resources, ’cause my life ain’t all that interesting.
But, do hurry up and send me the guns and money – – – , PLEEEEEZE ! ! ! __________________________
Oh, by the way,
“MERRY CHRISTMAS ! ! !”
What – – – ,
Isn’t tomorrow the Twenty-Fifth?
And doesn’t Christmas always come on the Twenty-Fifth?
Gosh, gee whillikers, I sure hope it snows tonight!
Wouldn’t that be neat – – – , having a good ol’ fashioned white Christmas right here on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, right here in Gulfport, Mississippi?
Boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy ! ! !
“MERRY CHRISTMAS ! ! !”
John, pretending to be crazy won’t keep them off your back. Hell, being crazy is no guarantee that they won’t still come for you.
I’m amazed that the Taliban has kept him alive as long as they have.
I’m skeptical that they have kept him alive. Pics or it didn’t happen.
This guy could be a PR Gold Mine for the Taliban. All they have to do is treat him like gold, show him their side of the story, get him some nookie a few times a week and hook him up with a book publisher for his story after he gets out.
Within a year he will be released, out of the Army, living in Australia on a 100% VA pension for PTSD and the Author of a best selling book that critizes the US involvlement in Afghanistan.
I would not be at all surprised if he didn’t return a convert to some form of radical Islam.
68W58,
What an ass you are. You know nothing of what this cat has been through. You know zero except what you read on the net about how he was captured. You’re the same type of dick head who in 1954 said that the Korean POW’s where communist tools. This SGT belongs to us. He’s our brother. He may have fucked up, me may not have. Either way, he comes home a hero and you’re a dick commenting on you a webpage.
Semper fuck you.
Dear Intel POG,
Two words:
Stockholm Syndrome.
Look ’em up, if they’re not too big for you.
‘Nuff said.
Except a hearty fuck you, to you too.
Hey, hey, the President is busy!
President Obama landed in Japan on Wednesday night and delivered an important message on behalf of the American people.
“That’s some good sushi right there,” he said.
In an article by liberal Dana Milbank, titled “Overseas, President Obama projects a whole lot of nothing.”
http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/dana-milbank-overseas-president-obama-projects-a-whole-lot-of-nothing/2014/04/23/6e0d829a-cb2a-11e3-a75e-463587891b57_story.html
and the headline today is “President Fails to Negotiate Trade Agreement” – a headline four words too long.
