Chief Tango sends us our feel good story this morning, the first is from Detroit where two folks tried to force their way into a home;

Sgt. Michael Woody said the shooting happened around 5:40 a.m. Wednesday after a man and woman, roughly 19-years-old, tried breaking into a home on Asbury Park, near 8 Mile Road and the Southfield Freeway.

“A 47-year-old male homeowner fired shots with a rifle, several shots, striking the male suspect one time and fatally wounding him,” Woody said. “He was transported to Sinai-Grace Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

The woman, who received a gunshot wound to the leg, was transported to the hospital in critical condition. No one else was injured.

DETROIT (WWJ) – Two people were shot on Detroit’s west side, one fatally, in what police say is another case of a homeowner standing their ground.

Reporting live from the scene, WWJ’s Charlie Langton said there was a commotion with neighbors gathering around the house after the shooting, but that quickly dispersed once police arrived.

An investigation is ongoing, although police say they are treating the situation as the homeowner legally protecting his property.

We fully support our good Detroiters, good Americans that are legally in possession of weapons, defending their homes,” Woody said. “We will support our citizens in that manner. This seems to be another one of those incidents.”

Hooah, Detroit, you’re finally doing something right.

The next story comes from Missouri where Harley Johnson tried to rob a convenience store;

Johnson arrived and allegedly walking in wearing a bandana on his face.

“He had a big can of mace and a hunting knife,” Cobb said of Johnson. “My son pulled a gun out and pointed at him. The guy run to the door and turned around and that’s when my son shot him.”

Johnson was hit in the abdomen by Kenny Cobb, who tells FOX 2 it was that action of turning around and pointing the knife at he and his wife a second time that led him to fire.

Johnson, now injured, managed to leave the store and get into the stolen pickup he was driving. He made it about four miles before being stopped by a Washington County deputy who was in the area.

The Tueller Drill: If you’ve been taught this you know that anyone wielding a knife at 21 feet or closer is an overt danger.

It really should be a part of any serious CCW-Self Defense class.

Richard

Agreed.

One CCW class included it (with variation), the other did not. The instructor who included it was Mike Hughes, a Gunsite supervising instructor.

Mike’s variation: shooter at low ready, round in the chamber, safety on, target at 7 yards. Runner 7 yards to the right with a plastic knife. There is a 90 degree angle between the direction of the shot and the movement of the runner. Shot timer with random start. If the runner can touch the shooter before the shooter can get an A-zone shot off … you get the idea. Seeing the runner in peripheral vision increases the stress.

We did something to prevent the startled shooter from pivoting toward the runner — it might have been a couple of practice runs with an empty chamber but I don’t recall.

It was not a demonstration with one student, everybody in the class did it.

In Detroit, similar stories are coming in about twice a week. Even little old ladies are taking on the thugs.

It’s a shame that it has come to this, but when a thug makes it clear that their threat of violence is real, any sane person with a will to survive reacts similarly. Perhaps the saddest part is that such antisocial behavior, with the inevitable negative response, is no longer shocking.

So much for all the liberal hand-wringing that went on when the Detroit chief of police came out in favor of private citizens arming themselves. Looks like the guy knew what he was talking about.

Nice story from Detroit for a change. As to the loser in Missouri, well he needed money for more tattoos it looks like.

several shots fired with one body hit and one leg? With a RIFLE?
