Just say anything

| October 22, 2008

The Joe the Plumber controversy has been raging for nine days, but Austan Goulsby, the Obama economic adviser whom I’ve been quoting for the last eight days, said just yesterday at a Council on Foreign Relations debate with McCain adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin that the Obama campaign added a work requirement to their tax cut (ABC News link);

“They started saying this was welfare,” said Obama adviser Austan Goolsbee. “So, just so they would absolutely not be able to say that, we decided that for the last two percent we’ll simply add a work requirement.”

[…]

“When did this change? I’m just curious,” an incredulous Holtz-Eakin asked Goolsbee.

“About two weeks ago,” replied Goolsbee….

Like I said, it was nine days ago the Joe the Plumber controversy began and eight days ago that Goulsby did his interview on Fox with Shepard Smith that I quoted last Tuesday and the Wall Street Journal quoted yesterday. There was no mention of a work requirement then, other than the facade that it was “rebate on Social Security”, so all along, it was going to be real welfare payment to people who don’t work…until yesterday.

But, at this point who can believe the Obama campaign They can tell us now that there’ll be a work requirement, that doesn’t mean it’ll survive his first day in office. The McCain campaign doesn’t believe it either;

“I think they just made it up,” Holtz-Eakin told ABC News. “They will say anything in the moment. This is like trying to pin Jello to the wall.”

We’ve all had discussions with the Left and we all know how hard it is to get straight answers from them and how they say anything to get out of the corners they painted themselves into. It’s more of the same. There’s your change…change the discussion.

Even if they add a work requirement, it’s still redistribution of wealth…they want to take money you and I earned and give it to someone who didn’t earn it. It’s still socialism. It’s still unAmerican.

I think they’ll force you to “work” your way to the welfare office to pick up your “paycheck.”
