NRA News; Dom Raso: Guns in Businesses
The folks at NRA News sent us this video commentary from Dom Raso on “gun free zones” in businesses;
Since 1987, the state of Florida has issued 2.5 million concealed-carry permits. Of those, only 168 people have committed firearms crimes. That’s .0000672 percent of the total amount issued. .0000672 percent. Overwhelmingly, the people who will take a look at the gun-free sticker on your door and actually obey it are the law-abiding permit holders who are absolutely no threat to you, your business or your customers. In fact they are your customers. You put that sticker on your door in Florida, it’s only effect will be to eliminate 2.5 million potential crime-stoppers from your business.

As States began passing CCW laws, liberals howled, screeched, hemmed and hawed a out how it was going to be like in an old Western movie, everybody with a gun blazing away, and the opposite has happened, every time a State passes a C W Law, the violent crime rates plummet! As for me, HELL YEAH, I boycott any limp-wrist establishment that wants me to be an unarmed victim while on their premises in the event of a shooting!!
Or, I just ignore that particular establishment’s “Gun Free Zone” signs, and carry concealed while quickly doing my business.
I agree 100%. At the VAMC in Spokane I note that the sign on the door says that” for your safety this is a gun-free zone”
I should feel really safe there right?
OF COURSE!! Perpetrators will just turn around and find someplace else to go berserk as soon as they see that pretty little sign, just ask any liberal!!
My daughter will be going to college in about 18 years or so. She is half-Irish (me) and half Cambodian (my lovely wife). She’s already taking after her mother’s looks, and we all know how half-white, half-asian girls tend to be unnaturally beautiful (God help me when she starts bringing boys home). Having been to college myself, I worry about the dangers she will be exposed to, knowing that I can’t be there to protect her every second of every day.
By their logic, the best thing I can do for my little girl who i love so dearly is have her wear a “rape-free zone” t-shirt. Such a t-shirt will magically repel the predatory shitbags that often haunt college campuses and keep her securely locked inside a safety bubble powered by weaponized unicorn farts.
On the other hand, I could also teach her how to shoot, as well as how to fight with a knife and with her hands and feet. Then I could make sure she carries the self-defense tools she knows how to use, plus extra ammo.
Call me crazy, but common sense has me leaning towards Option-B.
Half-Irish and half-Cambodian? Dang, dude, the problems you have there.
Yes, definitely Option B. Glock just unveiled a lovely scaled-down model in .380, the 42. The Ruger LCP and LC9 are supposed to be the bees’ nuts, too.
I’ll vouch for the LCP, I bought one for my Wife last year with Crimson Trace laser Grips. American Rifleman gave it a glowing write up a few years ago, too.
Not unlike wearing a sign on yourself proclaiming “This is a crime free zone” — as if that will protect you from being mugged.

While I agree the numbers are impressive, right now in Florida there is a push against guns because of the actions of two gun owners with concealed weapons permits.
The first is the recently convicted Micheal Dunn case where Dunn pulled out a gun because he says he felt threatened by some kids at a Jacksonville 7-11 who he asked to turn down their music in their vehicle.
Dunn killed one teenager and was convicted of three counts of attempted second degree murder. (The jury deadlocked on first degree murder.)

The second case involves a retired police detective who shot and killed a man and wounded his wife in a theater because of an argument the two got into over texting during movie previews.

While I am fully on board with and support the right to carry, the NRA has to understand how people getting killed in businesses and in front of businesses for no reason and by at least one trained weapons expert doesn’t help their cause or their statistics.
I am sorry, but if alleged experts and permit holders shoot people because of loud music and texts, we have a problem.
Truth. I cringed at both these cases, too.
No, WE don’t have a problem. The problem is with the two jackwagons who decided to use their weapons irresponsibly.
You, and you alone, are responsible for your actions. Not your childhood, not your job. Not your kids. Not your finances. Just you.
The problem is with the leftist jackwagons who run to change their pantyliners every time something happens which they don’t approve of. The problem is also with the leftist press who enabled these morons in their fears.
The problem is NOT with us, it is with them. Every time some anti-gun leftist mouthbreathing hipster jackwagon starts spouting that crap, you need to get in his or her face and tell them to STFU, STFD, and let the adults take care of things.
Evrey time some reporter sides with the anti-gunners, call his boss, call his editor, call the owner, and let them know how off base he is, and that the facts don’t support his conclusion(s).
More than anything else, we need to elect politicians with the spine to start rewriting our laws to reflect holding people responsible for their own actions, and NOT making prophylactic laws that harm innocents in the name of “doing something”.
Here here! Nicely put.
So, here I am looking around for a few ancient threads that go back…24 or 48 hours, and I can’t find them! Oh, they’re here somewhere but b/c none of the last 10 comments spoke to them, they are hidden. I could guess the category they are in and hope I guess correctly–there are a gazillion categories. Or I could hit the Archives button like I used to–but there is no such button any longer. The “Top Posts and Pages” box is no help and, for the life of me, I can’t figure out how something ends up in there. The “Polk” thread dates to 2012 and I don’t see any new comments. In short, I am baffled. I thought it was just b/c I am old and do not like change much but there is something else afoot here. Navigation may be quicker but, to me, it’s like making a train run faster by eliminating stops. I really don’t want to sound like a whining sack-o-shit but I want the old TAH back. I’m not going to get it, I know, but at least I got to whine.

AC: Figured out how to overcome that issue! If you scroll down from the main page you eventually get to a “Next Page” button. You can just keep going through the pages of short blurbs to see all the newer stories. And older stories.
Yeah, yeah – more work to get there, but it almost gets the same information. Sort of.
OWB. I can’t even find the “Next Page” button. And I am not kidding.
Understand, AC! It took me a while to find it, too.
It’s on the front page, where all the story intros are. Scroll to the bottom of the entries and on the lower left, directly below the intros, are the words “Next Page” in light grey print. Been using that function to find the last story I read and work forward.
Might even get to like that way of doing things because it gives a few sentences instead of just the title – easier to decide reading choices, maybe.
