PFC Tariqka Sheffey and her indiscretion
You guys have been blowing up my inbox with the picture of PFC Tariqka Sheffey while she was hiding (from who?) during Retreat. yeah, it was all over Facebook and Twitter. It made the Army Times. And she tells her audience (us) that she “doesn’t give a f***” what we think. She probably does now.
In my opinion, this is getting out of hand, not just the fools taking selfies of themselves while they’re misbehaving in uniform, but the whole “viral” thing, too. Here’s an example of how I chose to deal with a selfie dude;
Last year someone sent me a selfie of a troop up in Fort Drum who was wearing NCO rank (he was an E-Zero or something, all of those privates look the same to me) and jump wings and a tab or two and a CIB. The guy who sent me the picture said he served with PFC Selfie and none of that stuff in the picture was true. PFC Selfie hadn’t deployed yet.
So I looked him up on AKO, and next to his name was his squad leader’s name. Then I looked his squad leader up on AKO, got his email address and sent the picture to him along with a brief description of my duties here at TAH and left it up to the staff sergeant what should be done. A couple of weeks later, I got an email back from the squad leader thanking me along with a description of what had happened to the young soldier.
That was much more satisfying to me than a pile of traffic and comments calling for PFC Selfie’s head and/or ass. I imagined endless push ups, hours of police call, piles of hand-painted rocks, and hours of layout inspections. It made my little black heart sing. I’ll admit that I became part of the whole viral thing for a while, but now it seems like the troops aren’t learning from the tribulations of others and it’s time to put the chain of pain to work on them.

30 days of Color Guard duty weekends included. She should also bee on latrine duty during this time.
@42 – Oh man, that is epic. My late brother was rockin Command Private Major back in 1994 when he was in AIT. Man, the crap he pulled. However, when he got caught pulling his silliness, he took his punishment like a man. Hell, if you pull up Michael Z. Williamson’s “Skippy” list, there are at least 2 of the items listed taken from actual stunts my brother pulled (and got away with, I might add)!
🙂
This stuff has made the First Sergeants chain for the USAF. Our Shirt just included it, and warnings against it, in her weekly info-email this morning, and mentioned it repeatedly as she did her daily visitations throughout our squadron.
Look at me. Look at me! Looooook at meeeeeee!!!!! (And boo-hoo when all the mean people push back for my idiocy…that’s just whack/cray)
In my twisted mind, the selfie thing has been a bit heart warming.
It is good to know that our enlisted military brothers and sisters have not all degenerated into plaster saints.
But, on the other hand, I tend to find the reaction to the selfies a bit illuminating and, again in a twisted manner, heart warming.
Much of that hate and discontent expressed by those outraged over the selfies is from life long civilians who actually care about our military and its image.
This is what happens when troops don’t understand their operational environment.
It has nothing to do with “what” she was doing, its about the fact that she was advertising wrong doing. Integrity is doing the right thing even if no one can see. She’s showing that she has no integrity. If there was another Soldier walking past the car, she’d get out and salute.
Why? Because its “cool” to not GAFFFF. She’s only sorry because she got caught. If she didn’t get caught, she’d keep doing it and other things and “advertising” them. Now she’s going to act like she’s the victim and it isn’t fair.
I agree though that it should be her chain of command and NCO support channel that deals with it.
An old first sergeant of mine said you aint a real NCO until you have an article 15 on your record and from everything I saw in the Infantry he was correct, the best soldiers are the ones who take risks not the ass kissers who can’t piss a drop unless they get say so..
As for this individual who wears an Army uniform, she isn’t a real Soldier so I really wouldn’t worry about it.. Go visit a random POG unit and you will see a lot worse and if you really want to see some shit drop in on a National Guard unit.
@57.
Really?
Article 15, huh?
Is that the standard? Or your standard?
Setting the standard, huh?
Hopefully not.
Heh. This individual is getting attention. She’s going to be a spot on Megyn Kelly tonight.
I remember a young Corporal at Ft. Polk along about 87-88 who was extremely squared away, room ALWAYS ready for inspection, uniform starched, changed boots several times a day etc. Didn’t go out and drink or chase ladies, just sat in his room and read FMs and TMs over and over.
He missed the last day of a three week flag detail, his section leader told him not to worry. The kid wrote his own counseling statement, assigning himself the corrective training of observing the next group doing flag detail for one week, and did it and turned in a critique/report.
@ 61. That was my twin.
BTW. I have always saluted and I will continue to do so as it is the most basic military honor and it requires zero effort.
Master chief,
I was going to write some witty retort, but I just had some weird vision of grey and no sunlight for months on end.
@57……. Spot on, the most squar
@46, Toasty, not just her gender, but her breed will flash the race card at light speed to boot! I remember dealing with her type on AD, her breed will file a Sexual Harassment Complaint the moment they’re told to clean the barracks during the weekend, etc.
@58, Hulkamaniac, I’m a Guardsman, and our unit blows a lot of AD Units away! You sound like someone who considers themselves God’s gift to the Military!
Me, I would be in favor of her getting at least a FG Article 15 for Conduct Unbecoming and a General Letter Of Reprimand! Reduction to E1, “45 and45”, and see if she learns anything from it. She appears to emulate Mrs. B. Hussein 0bama’s attitude of “All this for a silly flag”.
@57…… The most squared away troops I served with were infantry. Hard chargers and risk takers. Esp back at base camp. We were always trying to get away with something. Platoon Sgt. Forgets to say formation at noon, most don’t show. “Where were you guys” Our response, “you didn’t call for a formation at noon”
I remember getting a suspended article 15 for falling asleep on bunker line guard after flying for 5-6 hours as a door gunner. Exhausted. Thank god the C.O. Was a pilot, let me off easy.
@65 A Proud Infidel~
I do believe you are right…when I was at my first duty in VA, there were 2 and every time they were told to do ground maintenance they bitched and hollered like collared greens on fire..it was really something to see as an E-2 at the time..
Fortunately they hollered at the wrong LT..they didn’t last long after that.
Did I “hurry along” at First Call? Yeah. But did I duck and cover and wait until after 0800 or sunset? Oh hell no. Not even during RIMPAC, where you’d have boats from 5-6 nations in Pearl, and some of those anthems are fucking LONG!
Sadly, her chain-of-command is going to be feeling more pain than she will. And that pisses me off more than anything.
Damn, NHSparky, I wasn’t even thinking about the gargantuan case of heartburn her cheap stunt has to have given her superiors, I Can only imagine how miserable she has made life for her Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, and 1SG!
I would assign her to the flag detail for rising and lowering for six months straight.
And seven days a week to boot!
If this is about a troop ducking paying respect to the colors, what about Fort Bragg? My wife returned complaining about how no one respects Retreat. I complained to Garrison Command the the CSM never responded. I don’t plan to let go and will pursue it. In talking with a Bragg MSG, he said senior NOC’s there were pissed because command does not enforce the Army reg. Let’s see if we can get their attention. As for this young lady, let us not be too harsh. A couple of days of bung a-bunga will suffice. I’ll step up to be first in line.
Maybe it’s just this ‘joined post college as an officer, didn’t need the money and isn’t in it for any other reason than simple obligation to country’ knucklehead O3 speaking, but I always enjoyed colors. It matters. You show who you are, what you are made of and your personal discipline by stopping to respect the symbol of what we are defending.
Stand up straight, salute smartly, and absorb the meaning and implications of the sound of the bugle. Far too many of our comrades have been laid to rest under the same notes not to.
Anyway. You guys stay out of trouble and don’t be too hard on the Private. She’s a private. They are supposed to be dumbasses on occasion (not unlike 2LTs). Correct em hard and on the spot. She’ll either learn or leave.
There has already been one fake account made with this soldier’s name. I wonder if this is just the begining of a new trend. Really hope someone doesn’t have a crazy wife or a girlfried out there.
Not an isolated incident.

Symbolic of our collapse of the military.
For the record, there are briefings on what should/shouldn’t go on social media. It’s now included in OpSec, Deployment and ReIntegration, and COIN, as well as various unit/command specific briefings. I know, I’ve taught a couple of them.
The main issue (as I see it) is that people are stupid, they assume that the powers that be don’t pay attention or that it isn’t a big deal.
Note that this isn’t confined to the military. Every day I see news reports of politicians, sports figures, teachers, police, and every other walk of life getting in trouble for online idiocy and indiscretions.
I am sincere in my hope that this young lady gets her just rewards from all the media attention she has so eagerly embraced.
“I am not a disrespectful soldier”, she says. Really? I’d hate to see how she acts in a disrespectful frame of mind.
y’know, it’s kinda hard to comment – I remember a boatload of privates who wound up as pretty decent NCOs once they worked the BS out of their systems. Had a few minor scrapes myself and wound up on the E-7 list before 9 years in, a friend who had a fairly notorious drinking incident as an E-4 retired as a CSM and I’d bet a damned good one. I’d think if this kid has an OK record she needs a tune-up, not a career-killer.
76 Shut the fuck up. Pieces of shit like you are the whiny fucks I remember that grouse on about how things were so much harder, and the military was so much better, back in the day. The problem is most guys that said stuff like that turned out to biggest pussies, writing blank checks with their mouths that their worthless asses couldn’t cash in the field or in combat. Our soldiers have been fighting for the past twelve years with one hand congressionally mandated to be tied around their balls and they’re still going. Shove that disrespectful bullshit up your own ass.
@81 Well said brother, the post viet nam, gulf war generation was the worst generation of soldier the Army has ever had, only proficient in shining boots and making their uniforms look nice had no combat sense.. Luckily now most of these guys are gone and we have a generation of actual war fighters coming up through the ranks.. We just have to hope we can stop Obama from completely purging the military of those war fighters.
You can go fuck yourself too, pal. Some of the vest damn NCOs I had came up during the 80s and 90s and I’m not going to have some internet tough guy piece of shit like you besmirching their career.
@82.
I love you man, I do.
Stay strong!
IP Check at 81 Please.

Jonn,
Can we have this WEB BASED TOUGH GUY TOSSED?
Can not. Can too. Not. Too….
80, 82: Whoah, whoah, slow down Cowboy. Every generation thinks they’re better than the last. “Back in my day…” stories were told throughout history. They were also told in the 1980s, 1880s, and from one Roman Legionaire to another. There’s no disrespect. As a soldier from the 90s to present, I don’t take offense. Neither should you.
A crudburger is a crudburger in any MOS.
But I will say, those in the Infantry are easier to “train and fix” due to the discipline afforded and expected.
Try this with this PFC and watch what happens….
She’s ignorant on many levels.
I also have a sneaking suspicion that this is not the first time this marginal Soldier has been in trouble or pushed the envelope.
A Commander can’t deny a Soldier leave while under adverse action…however, they can deny pass.
She got a field grade Article 15…details won’t come out unless leaked, but sounds like she may have been max’d out by her battalion chain of command. Next!
