Governors talking to Obama about NG cuts

| February 24, 2014

Reuters reports that the nation’s governors planned to ask the President to leave current force structures for the National Guard and not return to pre-9/11 levels;

“In downsizing the military, we want to make sure that reserve and National Guard is protected in our country,” Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“I’m going to have that discussion with the President tomorrow,” Malloy, a Democrat, said.

[…]

Another governor, Republican Scott Walker of Wisconsin, echoed Malloy’s comments on “Fox News Sunday.”

“We’re going to talk about the National Guard,” Walker said when asked what he planned to discuss with the president.

“I think there is common agreement amongst all 50 governors that we shouldn’t go back to pre-9/11 standards when it comes to the National Guard,” he said.

Yeah, well, good luck with that. When you ask this President not to do something, he smiles and nods his head and then considers it a challenge to his authority and does it anyway. Ask veterans. It’s the States’ fault any-damn-way. If they raised their own money to pay for their own National Guards, they wouldn’t have to worry about the Presidential whims and come with their hats in their hands and beg for money like a band of vagrants.

God, why must we suffer through this man? I hope that we shut this guy out in the 2014 election (the first election I’ll be able to vote in!) and that in 2016 we put a Conservative finally in office and turn this country around and back in the right direction.

Okay, raise your hand if you think that these governors give a shit about the NG. I see.

Now, raise yopur hand if you think they only care about the federal monies that come their state’s way in support of the NG. Exactly. You may ALL put your hands down now.

It’s obvious that B. Hussein 0bama & Company DON’T GIVE A SHIT about any part of the Military, PERIOD. He suckered enough voters to give him another luxury-filled four years, and he couldn’t care less about what he promised.

This is a big deal to the governors, and a fight that has been going since the Strategic Choices and Management Review.

The National Guard gives governors a unique capability to respond to domestic crises before and immediately after they occur. They see the NG as a means to show the voters that they did something when the voters were in need. Not responding means voters are pissed, and pissed voters don’t re-elect governors.

Cutting the heart out of our military forces, while increasing the budget — and armament — of Homeland Security.

Can anybody say “Police State”?

I don’t think the federal government likes it when several states have the ability to mobilize faster to handle natural disasters without as much help from the federal government. He can’t have governors looking better than them. You know don’t want people and the states figuring out that they need us more than we need them.
