More Hypocrisy in New York

| February 14, 2014

A few months ago, the Albany Times Union caught Jerome M. Hauer head of the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services using his handgun’s laser sighting attachment as a pointer in a briefing. The problem was that he was inside a State government building and he had no need to be carrying a gun according the State’s laws.

So, since some animals are more equal than others, the legacy governor leaped into action and provided the bureaucrat with a waiver four days after the Times Union published the story;

Cuomo defended Hauer at a news conference Wednesday. The governor said he’s comfortable with commissioners carrying weapons to work as long as they have gun permits. He qualified the response by adding “if they are licensed and in that field of work.”

Hauer is not a law enforcement officer or working in law enforcement, although his official vehicle has emergency lights and sirens.

Despite the lack of a waiver before January, several witnesses said he has been carrying a gun on the job since Cuomo appointed him in 2011.

Yeah, I’m comfortable, too, knowing that a state official is using his firearm in a way it wasn’t designed to function. In the original story, the Times Union had reported that Hauer’s waving of the weapon made several of the Swedish dignitaries duck to avoid the laser device.

A person in state government familiar with State Facilities Law said Hauer received a waiver from Office of General Services Commissioner RoAnn Destito on Jan. 10. She and State Police Superintendent Joseph D’Amico are the only people authorized to grant such waivers. The person said D’Amico declined to provide a waiver for Hauer.

D’Amico declined an interview request, and his spokesperson would not answer questions.

[…]

Neither Cuomo’s office nor the agencies involved would produce the waiver document.

I have a laser on my Sig-Sauer Scorpion (which is illegal in New York because it holds an eight-round magazine), and it comes with a warning that it could injure someone’s eyes. it also comes with little warning stickers that you’re supposed to affix to the weapon, so the laser thingie, isn’t exactly a toy either.

I gotta wonder: will some entrepreneur now come up with a laser in the form of a pistol, similar to the novelty cigarette lighters of the 50s. And is there really a market for it beyond idiot politicians in Albany?

So…Jerome M. Hauer, at his pay rate, cannot afford one of the thousands of professional presentation laser pointers out there for sale, which are safe for office use. So to show off and I believe it was nothing more than that, he waves a weapon around with a dangerous to the eyes laser on it. Then to top it off, Cuomo comes to his defense with a “waiver” just to dot the I’s and cross the T’s for his buddy. Yes Jonn, hypocrisy at its very, very best and most sickening. Goes to prove that no matter where you go or where you work, the good ole boys network is alive and well. Especially in New York, the ones who are working so hard to protect their citizens by denying the common man the right to bear arms to defend himself.

If this isn’t a clear indication of just who the ruling elite are interested in disarming I don’t know what is….

None of these “beautiful” people have any problem with other “beautiful” people having a weapon, they just don’t want the large unwashed masses having a weapon. Especially since all of their domestic programs are designed to widen the gap between the rich and the middle class….it’s a lot easier to shit on an entire population when you keep them unable to protect themselves from violent gangs and force them to rely on inadequate police protection for self defense…

Fucknuts drew his pistol in a crowded room. Fucknuts proceeded to use the weapon’s attached laser device as an office pointer. There were probably people behind the not-bulletproof wall that fucknuts pointed his gun at. Fucknuts also managed to flag lots of people in the room with his weapon. In short, fucknuts violated just about every basic safety rule and handled his weapon in a recklessly unsafe manner, clearly proving himself unfit to be armed. And he’s Cuomo’s ass-buddy, which means he supports disarming the common man.

I have said this about a particular individual I know here in California who somehow managed to get POST-certified, despite having restraining orders against him, being clearly not right in the head, and being a tremendous asshole (and anti-gun) to boot: “It’s interesting that the Great State (pun intended) of California (insert New York or other applicable SSR here) insists that as a law-abiding citizen of good moral character and with no history of violence or mental instability whatsoever, I have to be disarmed in the name of Public Safety…but they’ll GIVE that asshole a gun!”

Maybe he “forgot” that there was a pistol attached to the laser sight (like that numbnut in Buffalo “forgot” he was carrying a pistol into the school).

This idiot also had some serious health problems like heart and seizures

You realize Cuomo (FUAC) admitted to a felony with that. The Governor does NOT have the legal right to allow POW to be carried in State Facilities so his verbal permission isnt legal according to NYS law. Some friends very familiar with Hauer say he carries a glock as well and shakes like Michael J Fox covered in Fire Ants.

Jonn,

With regards to your comment. “Sig-Sauer Scorpion (which is illegal in New York because it holds an eight-round magazine)” – it’s my recollection that as long as the weapons’ magazine capacity does not exceed 10 rounds and that you are not carrying more than seven rounds in your Sig – – you’re okay.

Somewhat unrelated – I wonder if NY sportsmen will follow the lead of Connecticut gun owners refusing to register their firearms: http://foxnewsinsider.com/2014/02/13/reports-connecticut-gun-owners-refusing-register-their-guns – I hope so!

@5: Whitey, I was going to point out all the ways this utter and complete a-hole violated the most basic tenets of safe gun handling, but I think you covered it. But let’s also add, “embarrassed America to foreign dignitaries and made us all look like a bunch of crazy cowboys.”

As far as the PRK POST-certified anti-gun nutbag: you must mean SF Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi! Or is this a DIFFERENT PRK-residing, POST-certified anti-gun nutbag a-hole with restraining orders?

I priced out that configuration for “someone” I know that owns an AR-15 and as I recall the price is around $225-250. Apparently the extension above the buttstock noted in the photo that replaces(?) the charging handle complicates the renovation somewhat, as I believe that’s where the buffer is newly located, since the butt stock is gone.

I would love to see a modification to the buttstock assembly that would make the weapon NY legal (what a friggin’ joke) by removing the pistol grip only, thus keeping the buffer and charging handle in place and theoretically making the weapon street legal after some of the other mandated modifications

No, different asshole, in a position of far less power, thank Christ. Still applicable, though.

It’s also a great argument winner. Anytime somebody tells me that only cops should be armed, I just point to that guy and say, “Really?”

When the state disregards and violates the law can the citizens be far behind. And who could blame them?
