Friday morning feel good story

| February 7, 2014

Chief Tango sends us our feel good story for this morning, this time from Kansas City where a man temptingly left his car running in his driveway to warm up before his drive. It proved too much of a temptation for four gentlemen;

Police initially reported the incident as a home invasion, however after further investigation, police determined the man was shot when he confronted the would-be thieves.

“[He] heard the car leaving, trying to leave the driveway,” Thomas Tomasic, KCK police officer said. “Suspects had gotten in and tried to steal the car. At that time the homeowner came out confronted the suspects. Suspect and homeowner got into a gunfight, shooting at each other.”

Police said the homeowner had left the car engine running.

The two suspects, described as black males, bailed from the four-door silver car in the middle of the street and took off running. Police tried to track them down with their canine unit but had no luck. They were later apprehended in a second-floor apartment at the Legend Oaks Apartment building.

The only one who got shot was the car owner…..sounds like he could use some range time…

Some good lessons there.

1) Don’t leave your vehicle running unattended.
2) Be armed, always.
3) Keep your weapon on your person.
4) Practice, practice, practice.

In many locales (e.g., Northern VA), it is illegal to leave your car running unattended, even in your driveway. I don’t think it is worth it to get in a gun battle for my car. Inside the house or when loved ones are in direct danger, then that is a different matter.

SHeesh! Never, Never, EVER! leave your car running and unattended, unless you have a second set of (door) keys, and the car door is locked.
The car owner (almost) brought this upon himself. BUt the thieves . . . . well, what can one say about the douchbaggery of those unable to control their own impulses to take that which they have not earned, that is not theirs??

Range time and better bullets. Joe
