Wednesday morning feel good stories
Chief Tango sends us our feel good morning story to enjoy with our coffee and muffin today, this time it’s from Tennessee where Jaden Archer agreed to buy some tablets from Calvin Ward and met him in a local parking lot. It looks like Ward didn’t have any tablets;
At some point, the two men sat inside the same car when Ward allegedly pulled a gun on Archer and demanded his money. The two men got into a fist fight when [Ward’s accomplice Galen] Allen allegedly attempted to pull Archer out of the vehicle then knocked him down while Archer was fighting for his life.
Archer, who is a lawful gun owner and carrier retrieved his firearm and fatally shot Ward.
Allen reportedly jumped into a gray van and pulled out a handgun. Fearing for his life, Archer reportedly fired into the driver side window of the van where he struck Allen in the upper back.
Allen reportedly sped off in the van which was eventually located with blood in the driver’s seat and shattered glass.
Ward has met his reward, while Allen is being held on $470,000 bond. So, all’s well that ends well.
In Ohio, Michael “Meatball” Burns faces murder and manslaughter charges in the death of his accomplice in an attempt to rob homeowner of his scrap metal. Roy Hahn, the homeowner, responded by shooting through his door and killing 36-year-old Terry Allen. Meatball was struck by the bullet that passed through Allen.
Assistant county prosecutor Chris Becker has said that even though it was the intended victim who pulled the trigger, Burns and others involved can be charged with murder because they were committing a felony during which someone died.
[…]
Becker said Hahn admitted snorting cocaine the night before the shooting, but Robbins said Hahn didn’t appear to be at all intoxicated the night of the attempted burglary and shooting.
Allen, who was wearing camouflage clothing, was found with a crowbar still in his gloved hands.
Allen’s wife, Nichole, 35, of Mineral Ridge, and Mindy Sierra, 32, of McDonald, face the same charges as Burns and Crislip and they had left the scene of the shooting after dropping off the three men.
Charges for everyone, except the good guy with a gun.

It must not be a god day to be a criminal named Allen. Looking on the bright side, maybe the families can get a discount on the commemorative t-shirts since the guy making them won’t have to change the last names. Fo’ Shizzle!
Good outcomes.
Two for one bullet…. now that’s a bullet inthe right caliber placed right. Range time successful.
That’s gotta suck when you get shot AND get charged with killing the guy the bullet hit next. Poor career choice, lads.
to recap: victim #1 was meeting to buy tablets (I don’t think we’re talking Ten Commandments here) and victim #2 snorts coke. “Good guys” seems to be a relative term in so many of these feel good stories. On the plus side, the gene pool does get cleansed.
Mess with the bull, get the horns.
@4, no they weren’t talking about the Ten Commandments, they were talking about electronic tablets. You know, the computer kind.
Hey, poor Calvin’s demise is already paying dividends. It is reported by the Times Free Press that Cal “was charged in another robbery case in October 2012. He was expected to go to trial in March on charges of aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and theft of property, court records show. Ward and another homicide victim from this year, 16-year-old Lamunta Williams, allegedly committed a home invasion-style robbery at a home on East 18th Street wearing bandannas. They repeatedly beat the victims before stealing two guns, a TV, an Xbox and $150 in cash, according to police.
Williams was picked out of the lineup by one of the victims. Five months after the October robbery, he was shot and killed in an abandoned house a couple of blocks from the Howard School during the school day where he was supposed to be in class.”
So there you go! How cool is that? A bonus round. Two poor, disadvantaged, misunderstood high school students allegedly cut school and commit a home-invasion robbery. Both turn up dead before their trials, killed separately but killed dead.
Lady Karma, she can indeed be a beyotch.
With the caveat that I wasn’t there, I will admit to being leery of shooting through a door, I have heard of homeowners being charged after that form of self defense.
