Beating words into platitudes
Our favorite Second Amendment journalist, Emily Miller of the Washington Times went to the National Cathedral in Washington, DC today where some gun grabbers made a spectacle of themselves by forging tools out of gun parts trying to make some kind of statement about gun violence. I’m sure the idea sounded better in their empty, pointy heads. Miller interviewed some of the gun grabbers;
“This is a public health crisis,” the longtime liberal activist [Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund] said. “The NRA has blocked gun violence research, so most parents don’t know that having a gun in the home puts themselves and their children in more danger.”
These garden tools were made out of illegal guns during an event at the Washington National Cathedral on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, in Washington.“The NRA and the gun manufacturers are selling guns to people by making them believe it will make them safer!” she railed. “The gun manufacturers are even marketing guns for 4- and 5-year-olds.”
I asked where she saw those advertisements for guns for preschool children. Mrs. Edelman paused and then told me to call Josh Sugarman, a radical anti-gun proponent who founded the Violence Policy Center.
Yeah, that makes sense – spending marketing dollars on people who won’t be eligible to purchase your product for at least 16 more years. I guess they figured that the “marketing to kids” strategy worked so well against the tobacco industry that they can use it against Big Guns, too.
The NRA didn’t block the Center for Disease Control’s research and the CDC concluded that almost all of Ms. Edelman’s conclusions were wrong. But, I guess she missed that report because it got almost no press in the liberal media. Or, more likely, she just ignored the inconvenient truths of the report.
I’m wondering why the Leftists were wasting their breath in DC, with the police department’s overt approval (since it’s illegal to have even parts of unregistered guns in the city). Hardly anyone in DC owns a gun legally.

I wonder if they can harvest the body parts of anti-gun nuts and make a semi-intelligent human being?
Street theater is all it is, street theater and Cathy Lanier playing the game with them, too. Which is DC Metro PD. Law enforcement or community activists because if this law enforcement, I’d hate their activism side.
It helps progress the narrative that the “enlightened leaders” want to push, so the DC cops are not going to do squat.
God I miss the days when stupidity was punished equally by law enforcement.
Pretty sure it’s beyond time to commit these clearly delusional people from society before they hurt somebody. It’s not cute, these people are mentally ill and we should help them.
So, police provided the gun parts–which are illegal to possess outside of one’s home there? That’s nice. They recently accomodated a congresscritter with a full piece, as well. Sounds like Metro has its own version of Fast and Furious up and running. I guess I missed the provision in the law that says it is okay to possess guns and gun parts, and to distribute them, if the purpose of the posssession or distribution is to protest the 2nd Amendment or demand stronger gun laws or something.
Harvard did a study on gun control, their conclusion was that gun control laws are don’t necessarily accomplish what the gun-grabbers want. That also got very little attention. You’d almost think that the media has an agenda when it comes to firearms.
Then there is this, from the “enlightened” Piers Morgan, “That to me shows you how clumsily worded, and I say that with great respect for the Founding Fathers, that Second Amendment was,” he said. “The comma in the middle is perhaps the most dangerous comma ever written because it can be interpreted in different ways.”
He went on to further broadcast his lack of knowledge, “Morgan went on to say the Constitution — like the Bible — is not a sacred document, but an evolutionary one. And because of that, he said, it’s time for a discussion to rephrase the Second Amendment.” The old “Living Constitution” canard.
Now, a thread on firearms? Cue our resident moron, Joey TRCH(The Rock Climbing Hero) to pipe up with his idiocy.
Dear libtards, those who beat their swords into plows will find themselves plowing for those who did not.
FYI.
Yale has done a bunch of those studies, and we have been hearing about one in particular lately. Was is another by Lott, or someone new? (Can’t find it at the moment, of course.)
So why is our little libtard friend so butthurt that (by her claim) the NRA “stopped” the research?
Funny, one would think someone would/could pay for their own research, wouldn’t they?
Piers is right; evolutionary indeed! All he needs to “rephrase” the Constitution is a 2/3 super majority in both the House and the Senate for a joint resolution, which will go straight to the individual States for ratification, or 2/3 of State’s legislatures to ask Congress to call a national convention to propose amendments (which has never been done). The Constitution went into effect 17 September 1789, and since then has been amended exactly 27 times.
Good luck with that, Piers!
6 UpNorth –
It seems to me a deeper irony with Piers Morgan is that he is British, and one of the key events at the start of the American Revolution was triggered by an effort to establish gun control. That whole awkward Lexington and Concord thing. So it’s not much of a stretch to imagine that what Morgan actually believes, way down at the lizard-brain level, is that the world would be a better place if way back when all those wretched colonials had given up the guns and remained under the British Crown.
Something else that might be pointed out is that it’s likely more than a small portion of what drives protests by non-governmental organizations isn’t a matter of idealism, it’s a matter of employment. As founder and president of an NGO, for example, Marian Wright Edelman doesn’t actually have to believe in gun control. That’s mostly irrelevant. What matters, at least to some extent, is that she is able to draw attention to the Children’s Defense Fund by using protest as a marketing tool. Which might also mean she is able to keep a gig going that is ostensibly better than, say, flipping burgers for a living.
They guy who said guns don’t make people safer is right; and you cannot argue with right. Don’t take my or his word for it, ask any survivor in any of the daily feel good story posts. Let him be on the barrel end of a Saturday Night Special some dark DC night and see how he feels.
I suggest that they begin by compelling the police to disarm. That they actually CAN accomplish. That would take only a bill and enough votes. And why not go that route? If guns are bad, the gov’t ought to divest itself of its guns, right? Hey, what’s stopping them from doing that? The 2nd amendment isn’t a factor. Like the rest of the Bill of Rights, it operates against the gov’t, not on its behalf. Yeah, that’s the ticket!
Okay, no guns for police. If they want to carry a gun, they’ll have to leave the department and apply for a permit if their city or state allows. Think of the thousands of guns this would take off the streets of DC! Jeez. Why didn’t I think of this before? A gov’t that leads by example! Perfect!
Lefties like Edelman know that they can tell whoppers because the media (to whatever extent they can be differentiated from the activist left-which isn’t much) will cover for them. So she rants about “guns for 5 year old kids”, which is ridiculous, but she knows she won’t be called to account for her nonsense.
Am I the only one who sees the genius in my plan? Think of it! The NRA adopts the position that if the gov’t wants to rid the US of guns, it can unilaterally disarm itself w/o offending the Constitution.
UpNorth, OWB: Perhaps this is the Harvard study in question? (smile)

Not even a nibble can I get. Is everyone watching the Colts/Broncos game?
Okay, I give up. The worm died on the hook.
“Those who beat their swords into plowshares
will plow for those who did not”
@18–actually, new episode of The Walking Dead.
So in DC they can have gun parts at the National Cathedral, and display “normal capacity” magazines on Network TV, but I get caught with an expended .22LR casing in my truck and I’m a felon?
Mmmm Kay, got it.
@#17. Hondo, dat be’s da one. A/C, sorry, I was watching the Colts-Broncos.
The quickest way to shut a leftis, gun grabbing commie up is to challenge their narrative in front of all their folks, when they get on their soapbox. If guns don’t make you safer; then why do law enforcement have them, why do the secret service have them, why do bank guards have them, etc.?
“The NRA has blocked gun violence research, so most parents don’t know that having a gun in the home puts themselves and their children in more danger.”
The only problem with that statement is that it’s patently false. Such research has been done and discredited to such a degree that even its author has admitted it was bunk.
See the masturbatory “guns are killing machines” fantasy by Dr. Arthur Kellerman and the “43 times likely to injure a family member” meme.

Well there are two interesting things regarding this story, the first is clearly the omission of inconvenient “truths” regarding the debate over firearms possession and the lack of corroboration to their idiotic talking points. These folks have never worried about the truth getting in the way of their opinions or their activism.
The second, more alarming to me, component of this story is the continued complicity of the LE community in DC to the political meanderings of the current administration. That is more illustrative of what the police throughout the nation will actually do should gun laws to continue to become more restrictive. The police will gladly comply with their legislative masters and disarm the populace, there won’t be any refusal by LEOs to comply with the laws that violate the 2nd amendment. I suspect that quite the contrary will be the norm, where the police would enter homes by force to remove weapons and make criminals out of people who the day before were law-abiding citizens.
So let’s just keep letting the police and the government erode our liberties through laws like the patriot act and continue to fool ourselves into thinking that the NSA is on our side and that no one in government would actually abuse that information…
Or maybe we should try to get a movement going to eliminate all the incumbents from DC each and every election cycle until they start doing what we are paying them to do…or we could keep lying to ourselves and thinking it’s the other side’s people who are the problem when in fact it’s pretty much every one in DC who’s a corrupt sh1tbag looking to enrich themselves at our expense.
