I thought the troops are getting paid. Are National Guard troops different?
MustangCryppie: short answer is that the POMA (Pay Our Military Act) only covers active duty and many civilian support personnel (I believe most National Guard technicians were deemed covered by it by DoD legal staff). However POMA in general does not allow pay for inactive duty.

Drills are inactive duty. Many states have had to cancel National Guard drills if they don’t have state funds to cover them (National Guard units are technically state forces until Federalized, so the states can do that).
its still good to see things like this. I occasionally have my coffee or my lunch paid for, which I definitely appreciate.
Especially nice when its someone who’s a single mother that does it and a waitress no less.
But then this is why Congress and the White House actually passed thru that POMA without issue. They aren’t stupid enough to look like douchebags in the eyes of the populace.
