Monday feel good story

| September 30, 2013

Chief Tango sends us our feel good story for today – this time from Maine, no less. It seems that Christopher Dennison decided that it was time to turn his life around and drove over hill and dale to Richard Duffy’s house back off a dirt road that he had littered with cryptic signs that said “No Trespassing” and “Keep out!”, whatever that means. Anyway, Christopher donned a ski mask (everyone in Maine wears one of those, right?) and invited himself into Mr Duffy’s residence;

Duffy, who lives off state Route 225 in the Foss Hill Lane home with his teenage son, shot Dennison after a brief altercation in the living room about 8 p.m., according to McCausland.

An autopsy showed Dennison died from multiple gunshot wounds. Neither Duffy nor his son, who was home at the time, were injured. McCausland declined to say whether any other people were present at the time of the incident.

Duffy’s home, set well back from a dirt road, is out of view of any other residence. Monday morning, his neighbors pulled a chain across his driveway after feeding his animals, including several pigs and chickens.

Multiple gunshots – I guess that means that Mr Duffy has found the right amount of range time.

The article concludes: “In August, Duffy was sentenced to a suspended sentence and a $500 fine in Kennebec County Superior Court for having committed assault and criminal mischief on Feb. 1 in Oakland.”

Why would the newspaper report that about the homeowner who was defending himself? (Perhaps they meant Dennison, who was likely looking for money to pay fines for the August sentencing?)

The pigs and chickens … will they be OK?

THAT’S why you read the signs people post on their property! I always wondered about that. /sarc off

Never bring brass knuckles to a gun fight.

GUN 1…. BRASS KNUCKLES 0

Any questions?

I love seeing stories like this from my home state….

I read this earlier, but declined to send it in to you, Jonn, as I figured someone else would have already. 🙂

Maine may have a LOT of lunatic leftists and granola eaters up here, but we still are a gun-friendly state. No permits (except for concealed carry) no registration, no licenses, you can sell your gun(s) to anyone you wish to with no background check required, should so wish to sell them, 16 year olds may own rifles & shotguns, 21 for handguns. No magazine capacity limits, etc. Open carry.

“An autopsy showed Dennison died from multiple gunshot wounds.” Gotta love a happy ending.
A#1. The way that article jumps around at the end of the story leaves me wondering who did what to whom, prior to the break-in and shooting.

B Woodman

Mr Duffy should have practiced the four Esses and just buried Dennison out in the back fourty, then shut up about it. Make Mr Dennison’s “friends” and accomplices wonder what happened.

Hondo

B Woodman: not sure about that, given that Dennison had an accomplice who knew where he was and that shots had been fired. I suspect the police would have come looking for him fairly soon, and a body buried in the proverbial back 40 doesn’t exactly tend to support a claim of self-defense.

NHSparky

That’s what I like about living where I do–I know the cops aren’t getting there anytime soon, and if forced to defend myself they’ll just shrug their shoulders, say, “Good grouping,” and move on.

OWB

And what exactly are they trying to tell us by announcing the criminal history of the intended victim? Is it OK to rob some people while others not so much? Do they also publish the lack of criminal history of other victims??
