Keith Raye Blackey; phony POW
NBC did a heart warming story about Keith Raye Blackey’s work in Kabul with orphans in the scouting program there. They included this for some reason;
Keith Blackey’s path to Afghanistan began 40 years ago as a fighter pilot in Vietnam. In Sept. 1968, he was shot down during an intelligence gathering mission over North Vietnam.
“My wingman was with me and he could have escaped because we were under terribly heavy fire from surface to air missiles but instead he risked his life, followed me in and saw where our parachutes landed,” he said.
A3 Warrior pilot Blackey was taken captive by the North Vietnamese. A Marine unit launched a rescue operation within three days, and Blackey’s wingman, Lt. Cmdr. Chip Beck, rescued him. Over the years the two stayed in infrequent touch.
Well, it’s all true except that Blackey was a Specialist 6 in the Army, he was never shot down or captured by the North Vietnamese, Lieutenant Commander Chip Beck says he was never anyone’s wingman, since he was an underwater swimmer. He says that he never met Blackey in person, and that Blackey had contacted him in regards to the Iraq scouting program, not the other way as Blackey says in the article. So other than those minor points, the story is completely true. Oh, yeah, Blackey was never in Vietnam, either;

It was really Wittingless that rescued him. All classified, of course.
Realistically, how long would it have taken NBC to research this phony?
About 5 min for anyone who knew their a$$ from a hole in the ground, LZ.
A quick look at the lists posted by DPMO regarding Vietnam POWs who were returned alive to US custody or escaped show no individuals with the last name BLACKEY. And the unaccounted for list doesn’t, either.

This tool is nothing but a worthless LSoS.
BTW, the A-3 Sky Warrior was never a “fighter plane”, it was a Navy carrier-borne strategic bomber that was assigned to carry out nuclear bombing missions during the later 1950s and early 1960s, and after that mission became obsolete it served as a refueler and recon/EW platform until the early 1990s. It was nicknamed the “Whale” for a reason; calling it a “fighter plane” is laughable on its face.
I have a feeling this douchebag saw “BAT-21” and decided he was going to be a phony poser version of USAF COL Iceal Hambleton, who actually flew on a USAF EB-66 (Air Force EW version of Navy A-3) when it was shot down over Quang Tri Province in April 1972 during the NVA Easter Offensive, and launched the events that was (fictionally) depicted in the movie…
Even if it took hours to research it there is no reason for anyone to print of show anything as fact in a news program/story that’s not been corroborated by credible sources.
Apparently NBC just takes every one’s word for every story they produce without bothering to employ any fact checkers anymore.
He has been at it for a while. Here he is tell his tale on “Veterans Helping Veterans TV.”

Did you know that he joined the Army, spent 18 months in a school and, the day before graduation, a visitor walked into his classroom and asked, “Who wants to fly?” Well, up went his hand and he was whisked away to flight school and transferred to the Navy. Then combat, shot-down, saved, blah blah. And the interviewer doesn’t bat an eye. Scuse me?
The guy is a longtime Boy Scouter, wears no wedding ring, lives in California, and is now overseas helping little kids. Yeah, I have a question or two but the national database is presently down.
They did do that for the Army’s Flying Warrant Officer Program during Vietnam. They were so desperate for pilot candidates that they took anybody. Recruiting sergeants and draft boards asked high-scoring intakes if they liked to drive fast or liked sports cars. They recruited guys after boot camp or during Aviation MOS schools. They took guys who had flunked out of aviation mechanic’s school and made them into door gunners.
However, I doubt that he needed to take 18 months to go to a specialty school. And the Army/Navy crossover thing is a red flag. The rest of the stuff is crazy.
According to Lieutenant Commander Beck, an NBC producer did call him while he was out of the country and asked him questions about the scouting programs, not the Vietnam story.
@7 That’s kind of like calling the local Catholic Diocese to ask about the altar boys training program, but not why the same priest had to be moved 47 times and is no longer allowed to work with kids…
Sloppy work ethic leads to sloppy results…
Damn-talk about a BSer. Apparently this tool does not realize that calling the a3 a fighter plane is like calling a donkey secretariat. Also, there’s a relatively small number of POW’s, so this pretty easy to check out. Jerk…
I met Chip in Iraq- he’s the real deal. If you’re reading this, hi fron your Psyop friend.
Well, just damn, color me amazed. I went to high school with this guy and am really surprised by all this. Especially since one of our mutual friends was KIA in Viet Nam.
2nd decade of the 21st century and these idiots still don’t think that their lies can be undone by a few keystrokes.
Of course the producers and reporters that rush to get a “scoop” only help them, and get themselves nothing but a scoop of BS.
Let me see – tried to recite the Scout Law, got to the “Trustworthy” part and he never made it past. I’m not a big fan of Iraqis but sure don’t want their kids trained by this douchebag.
That dude screwed the pooch, for real. I know I read it right, he was Specialist 6, tours were Tusloc, DET 27 Turkey and USASA (Army Security Agency)Europe HQ as an intel analyst? This dude didn’t answer to just anybody, what the fuck is he thinking…Unless playing surveillance tag with the Soviets was just too fucking boring for him. Damn…
Anyone want to bet this guy is some kind of kid pervert?
People who claim the things he has claimed are showing just a symptom of an even bigger psych problem.
This dick weed was a member of my beloved Army Security Agency. He was either a Morse intercept operator or a radio tech of some sort. He makes me puke. A lot of our members never went to Viet Nam, we served as the tip of the spear in the cold war. I guess he had to make up a story to compensate for his failure to make it to the Hot war. That or he has a small dick and thinks stolen valor will increase his virility. We were an all volunteer force, RA to a man. I am proud to have supported the combat soldiers who benefited from our hard work at field stations around the world. I demand that he never again call himself a soldier, for as long as he lives.
Just another case of a vet with military service which was plenty good enough for any sane person, but apparently not for himself. Stupid.
Joining the echo chamber: highly unlikely that his involvement with kids is altruistic. Guy’s got a screw loose and apparently young men and boys are who he turns to for relief.
I’ll take a piece of that action, COB. Oh hell yea, right with ya on that.
@15 that’s about the first thing that comes to my mind when I see these less-than-honest folks going out of their way to be around kids.
Guy made e-6 in 4 years. He had to have been doing pretty much everything right back then. What happened?
That’s nothing I was shot down three times over Tokyo. All in one weekend. In 1985. Roppongi, to be precise.
Hack…making high speed, low altitude passes on women in Tokyo just don’t cut the mustard. BTDT, got shot down by a full bird. His daughter was all okay to look at but, a no-fly zone. lol!
Way to set a great example to those young scouts, Blackhead. You turd.
As far as I know, the International Date Line is what I say to Asian girls. “Baby, you’re the ichiest!”
I just do not get these guys, just be yourself, not everyone can be king. Your life is probably much more interesting
then you think. Just to many lies to remember.
Bag, douche, 1 of many. Size extra large.
Shitbag.
And he has access to kids.
Another maggot.
Turd.
Wow, a Spec 6….well, aint that “special” like a retard..
Great work Jonn, et al. This SOB needs to fry. He must have a thing for the young Afghan scouts. Maybe the Taliban would like to initiate him him into their Order of buggery.
Spec5 and Spec6 were reserved for “Pogue” MOS’s (Cooks, Laundry & Bath Specialists, etc.) and I see that “Electric Operations Warfare Analysis” was among his schooling, so I assume he rarely ever left his air conditioned shop unless it was for coffee, lunch, or quitting time!!
Infidel–POG or not, E-6 in first enlistment is pretty fucking good, regardless of time, service, or MOS.
But some people just aren’t happy with that, noooooo….
True, NHSparky, I’ve known a few who have done that, and they weren’t embellishing POS’s like that assclown! I haven’t seen the video yet, but the pic looks like it was taken at Alhouddin Orphanage in Kabul, one of the locations where my squad escorted Medical Personnel to and fro, and provided Perimeter Security for on MEDCAP Missions ( Medical care, vaccinations,..). I wonder how much money he’s scammed so far?
Needs to be crossfiled under “Shitbags.”
If and when more info emerges on this one, I see him an early favorite for next year’s Fecal Four. If problems with kids are proven (and for the kids’ sakes, I hope not), he could go all the way.
Pervert
Bedwetter
The A-3 was the largest aircraft in Navy service assigned to carriers. It’s a BIG aircraft, and heavy. It’s nickname (for the A-3d model) was “all 3 dead”. The crew had no ejection seats, and entrance/exit was through a hatch in the nose wheel door.
CNO has a VIP version, or at least HAD one. I was fortunate to get a seat onboard her flying back from Moffet Field to Andrews. I had been on leave, flights back were booked, so I trundled over to Moffet and checked the OPS Department for outbound flights with space and there it was.
I thought she was just a regular A-3 headed back east after having some work done until I got inside. She was VERY nicely appointed with regular airline-type seats in the fuselage where the bomb bay would have been. Navy Blue carpeting, and a galley with a well-trained MS-1 who made up an excellent meal. Real china, coffee cups, etc. It was nice to see how the other half lived. 🙂
The guy simply is a con artist. Years of practice makes one smoother and smoother. He probably believes some of his own shit. Sadly he has to bring up his father in his discussion/background. He is a pathetic loser.
@31 – unless I am mistaken, usedtabe prior to 1977 or so minimum time in service was 3 years with one year TIG to make E-6. They changed it around then to 5 years TIS/2 years TIG.
@32.
I wonder if he hangs out with Greg Mortenson?
Frauds.
This guy is an incessant liar and fantasist. I am very concerned about his work with children. As previously commented on, he really does believe his own lies. Put it this way, I wouldn’t let him within 10 miles of either myself, or any of my nieces or nephews. He once told me how he was put in a barrel in Vietnam after capture, and the barrel was buried underground. Anyone with a brain would know you can’t survive 3 weeks being buried underground. If I knew who to call and warn against this man, I would. He’s not of sane mind, and should NOT be around children. Just my opinion, but one thing is damn sure – he should not be allowed to leach off the memory of those who actually were POW’s, or those who sadly lost their lives. Disgusting individual.
I agree.
Another lair and potential ticklemonster who has easy access to kids.
I wonder if he hangs with Greg Mortenson?
Hmm. Entered in New Haven, CT, eh? I seem to remember some other tool who got caught “rockin’ the lie” maybe 20 mi ESE of there?
Wonder if their paths ever crossed?
