What the hell is Fox News talking about?

Closer look….

Fox banner

That is literally the banner running at the top of the screen. Does anyone know what the hell they are talking about?

Figures, Fox News has no clue what they are talking about….

WASHINGTON (AP) — House and Senate leaders are formally awarding Congress’ highest civilian honor to four girls killed in an Alabama church bombing nearly 50 years ago.

The Congressional Gold Medal is being awarded Tuesday to 14-year-olds Addie Mae Collins, Carole Robertson and Cynthia Wesley, and 11-year-old Denise McNair. The ceremony comes five days before the 50th anniversary of their deaths inside the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham.

MOH, Congressional Gold Medal, what’s the diff.

Probably the Congressional Medal of Freedom, and Fox News doesn’t know the difference between the two…

Actually, doesn’t seem to be the Congressional Medal of Freedom, either.

@2: I just checked, the Medal of Freedom is awarded to civvies by the President, the Gold Medal is awarded to civvies by Congress…

The inherent mistake aside, what is the reasoning of the award?

Not be negative or take anything away from that terrible time in history, but I do not think this is enough or fitting criteria as per the award.

I gave up on Fox some time ago, and don’t miss it at all.

Shame on you, Fox. Morons.

Headline writers are seldom the same as the writers of the articles in print media. Does it work the same for cyber news outlets?

I got this. Fox was fearful that people wouldn’t understand how they could be receiving gold medals when the Olympics were in 1964, not 1963. So, they just made the gold medals Medals of Honor.

It’s what stage magicians do when they want to make bridges disappear right in front of you.

It’s a distraction. Poof! What missile strikes?

Another fuggin’ intern mistake, perhaps?

Based on the list of recipients found here, the Congressional Gold Medal appears to be awarded as often to make a political statement (sometimes meaningful, sometimes IMO empty) as not.

Frankly Opinionated

I posted at their Facebook page:
“What are you people talking about?

NO ONE GOT THE CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR TODAY.
Do you not know the real name of the award given?
Do you not fact check through something as elementary as Google? You are misleading the public.”

Laughing Wolf

Problem is, the people writing the headlines are often several steps removed from the writer of the article (who apparently got it right). In print, it should be a copy editor, but that often really goes out to another party who works to find a headline that works within a given space. In olden days, that person was often physically removed from the copy editing office sitting at a Compugraphics machine that was dedicated to producing headlines to be pasted on the bluesheets.

In the digital world, the person on the website should have the full article, but may not; and, they often are on the low-end of the totem pole and their work is oft not checked. I doubt they even read the article or really skimmed it, just glanced far enough in to pull up the wrong info.

This one is bad, and speaks to a lack-of-knowledge about the MoH on the part of the headline writer along with poor supervision/editorial oversight. Hope they correct it soon.

Another good one I remember from years past was print-based, and talked about NASA doing blood experiments in space, when the article talked about plasma/plasma physics experiments. Turns out, the person writing the headline didn’t know the four states of matter and only knew the phrase blood plasma. They apparently had just skimmed into the article far enough to spot the word plasma, and put in a very badly wrong headline in order to meet deadline.

They’ve already pulled my comment down at their facebook page. Someone is getting a lesson in medals…
Thanks to the power of the Screen Cap, we have it for posterity.

It’s just Medal of Honor, not Congressional Medal of Honor in the first place, right?

Bunch of morons.

The face buried in an I-phone twenty something employee who conducted the mistake did not know better!

But does now …

Emperor Bam agrees: FOX News don’t know nothin for nothin. Investigating phony scandals and wasting everyone’s time. Catherine Herridge, Megyn Kelly, Bret Baier, Greta Van Susteren are particuliarly egregious. Benghazi, FNF, IRS, black panthers (blocking polling station) happened a long time ago…give it a rest, move on folks.

Just so long as none of you talk bad about Maria Molina.

Reaperman

I tried to come up with a tinfoil-hat story of how they could have earned a MoH, but it probably would have come off as highly insensitive so I gave up.

“Turns out, the person writing the headline didn’t know the four states of matter and only knew the phrase blood plasma.”

What a dope! The four states that matter are West Virginia, Alaska–Huh? What’s that? Oh. Never mind then.

Hey, need help here. I clicked on the pic of that guy in the blue tie and ears and I now see the head of a large, creepy creature in the room he just left. Anyone recognize it?

Laughing Wolf

2/17 Air Cav, well played. 🙂

I’m sure it was put up there by the former pilots of the plane that crashed in San Francisco….

I heard Sum Ting Wong and Wi To Loe were looking for work….

I can already hear the head of the intern rolling across the deck….

malclave

My first thought is that it was written by an unpaid intern, and you get what you pay for.

I’m waiting for the Syrian Electronic Army to take credit.

A few weeks back, when they reported on the beating death of the WWII vet by the two youths waiting to turn their lives around, Fox News reported that he was “wounded while fighting on Okinawa in the South Pacific. They were only off by a few thousand miles.

Surveys show people who watch fox not news in tests know less about the news then people who don’t watch news! This is because they haven’t seen and been told a lie and believe it to be true! Watch the video “OUT FOXED!” Its all about fox lies and guests interveiws that were never aired because they made the pervert o’reilly look bad! I am glad to see the four black girls get the medals they died for our country too!

B Woodman

In spite of the incorrect naming of medals, or who is awarding them, I have to wonder just what acts of bravery and heroism these young girls did to be awarded such medals? Not that they didn’t live in terrible times, and suffered horrible deaths at the hands of mad bombers, but what did THEY do of themselves? Just askin’. Seems like a feel good political ploy that goes nowhere and does nothing.

Hack.Stone

You just know that Al Sharpton will be pushing for Trayvon Martin to get one.

David

Another award to a ‘hero’ whose sole accomplishment was dying. Hell, we all do that eventually. Pu someone like a Rick Recoria up as a base line – if they meet or beat that, call ’em heroes. Otherwise, they are victims.
