Telegraphing a war

| September 8, 2013

Tman and Andy sent us a link to an AFP article in regards to the administration’s plan to schedule an attack on Syrian government forces with Assad’s social secretary, I’m assuming;

The strikes against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, in retaliation for what the US says is the regime’s use of chemical weapons in a Damascus suburb, could last longer than a day, officials have said.

The Los Angeles Times had reported Sunday the Pentagon was readying more intense and longer attacks on Syria than originally planned, set to last three days.

War planners now aim to unleash a heavy barrage of missile strikes to be followed swiftly by additional attacks on targets that may have been missed or remain standing after the initial launch, the Times cited officials as saying.

I hope Assad can find room for our attack in his busy schedule. But, not to worry, the Obama Administration doesn’t plan on actually accomplishing anything of military value, according to the article;

Amid doubts a limited US offensive would sufficiently hamper Assad’s military capabilities, one officer told the newspaper the planned operation would amount to a “show of force” over several days that would not fundamentally change the situation on the ground.

The planned US strike “will not strategically impact the current situation in the war, which the Syrians have well in hand, though fighting could go on for another two years,” another US officer said.

Whew! Well, that’s a relief. I mean, that will make a pointless show of force much more palatable for public consumption. I’m sure that Clauswitz is giggling loudly from his grave.

Our administration is BEYOND ridiculous. There is no “end game” and they’re even supporting the very same people who attacked us just shy of 12 years ago. We NEED to stay out of this!!

ohio

Sounds like something out of The Mouse that Roared.

Eric

When even an extreme left-wing group like Code Pink is disagreeing with your telegraphed military action Mr President, perhaps its time to re-think what you’re thinking about doing to help your 2016 campaign. Just sayin’…

UpNorth

Clauswitz giggling? I’m sure that Putin is rolling on the floor, laughing his ass off. Not to mention the mullahs in Tehran.

as much golf as our dear president has been playing, he just wants to maike sure he is par for the course

Okay, obamaman wants some Syrian blood and rubble. John “Kleenex” Boehner and John “What! I’m a senator?” McCain would like to accommodate him. Meanwhile, Joe “The Moron” Biden is cleaning his shotgun in an undisclosed location and John “Jungle Stroll w/ Cameraman” Kerry is marching to and fro banging a war drum. If this debacle weren’t deadly real, I’d swear it was a resurrected vaudeville routine. So tomorrow is obamaman’s BIG SHOW. Will we be treated to slides of dead Syrian children? Will he invoke Jefferson? Lincoln? MLK? Can he avoid some reference to America’s greatest generation? How many times will he invoke Mr. Strawman and begin a sentence with some say, “Some say that…?” then tell us how he respects Mr. Strawaman’s view BUT…? How many times will he say “international law” and tell us that we the right thing to do is not subject to polls—when polls will, in fact, determine the extent of what he orders done to Syria? Will he actually have the audacity to say that France supports some sort of action while Great Britain told him to take a flying leap at a bust of Churchill and to munch on some DVDs? Me, I can’t wait. It will be a helluva show—provided I can stomach listening to him.

Sorry. The BIG SHOW is Tuesday, not tomorrow. I guess I’m just toooooo excited about it. It’s not every day you know that a President of the United States will be lying to the American public before he tells the lies. That’s right. I know what you’re thinking, but there are days he plays golf and has no public statements.

OldSoldier54

This is sickening.

Then there is threat found at the Daily Caller.

So, we are doing it with no goal, no mission, no plan, and no real reason other than to “punish” them for something that most of the rest of the world isn’t sure they really did. Not to mention, if we do it, then Russia and China will be completely pissed at us and at least one of them has severe economic control over us.

Instinct

Hey, on the bright side it will waste a whole shitload of the military’s budget so, you know, they will probably have to do more force reductions, furloughs, and cuts to services.

OWB

In the name of “we must DO something!” they are willing to kill thousands of children and cause the destruction of towns, countries and civilizations. Maybe even our own.

Yep. Sounds exactly like a threat of terrorism.

In order to do the most damage to Assad’s military forces the target list should be limited to schools and hospitals. That is where you will find the Syrian army. The army barracks are full of women and children. Should any military facility be hit the Syrians will claim that is a hospital or school. With the Syrian army hiding in protected schools and hospitals it makes good sense to hit them. Anything we hit will be declared to be a civilian facility anyway.

Reminds me of Airplane…”I can’t tell you that. It’s classified.”

Gee whiz. I’ve spent most of the afternoon watching QVC selling stuff and talking myself out of buying any of the stuff, because I don’t really need it.

And then I went to the news section on the front page, and here’s CoS McDonough telling David Gregory on NBC this morning that we’ll be sending ‘a clear message to Iran’.

Read it carefully. http://presspass.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/09/08/20386023-mcdonough-says-attack-on-assad-regime-would-send-message-to-iran?lite&ocid=msnhp&pos=1

I think the only message Iran will get out of this is that they need to HURRY UP WITH THEIR NUCLEAR WEAPONS PROGRAM for their own protection from the US and the dimwitted approach the current administration is using.

Note that at least two people are quoted as saying they do not think any kind of US-led action in Syria is necessary. And I don’t know where McDonough gets the idea that chemical weapons will be relased to the AQs by Assad’s government, when the AQs are on the side of the rebels.

If this is NOT the DUMBEST thing I have ever seen in a long time, I don’t know what is, but these morons are actually making Jimmy Carter look clever and Richard Nixon less toxic.

Tuesday is the day bodaprez is doing his speechifyin’ about Syria. He has already indicated that even if the majority vote is “NO”, he is willing to bypass Congress and do whatever the hell he wants to.

You all do know that Wednesday is Sept. 11, right?

This is that razor’s edge thing in real time.

Hondo

Ex-PH2: Jimmy the Clueless and his gang of village idiots made Nixon look substantially less toxic – and perhaps even close to preferable. Whatever their faults, when it came to managing US international relations Nixon and his cohorts were indeed competent.

I never thought I’d say this about any US administration in my lifetime, but here goes: this gang has almost managed to make the Carter administration look competent.

Almost.

OWB

Even Carter managed to do a couple of things well. This bunch has managed only to weaken this country in every imaginable way. By accident or by design? Not really sure that it even matters at this point.

Ex-PH2

Hondo, OWB – you know that sinking feeling you sometimes get when something is not right? It’s just getting worse and worse.

None of this makes any sense.

Ex-PH2

It has occurred to me that, if we all manage to survive this mess, it will have driven people away from the left side of the political line.

It has also occurred to me that on Wednesday, we may find ourselves facing an uncalled-for all-out war.

2/17 Air Cav

The AP is running a story that says that the WH is employing “a common-sense test” to conclude that Assad used chemical weapons, in the absence of proof that he did so. A common-sense test? The obama regime? Common sense? I’m working on it. Give me more time.

OWB

“Common sense” doesn’t cut it in capital cases in the courtroom, but these lawyers are willing to issue a death sentence to a completely unknown number of people in an unknown number of countries based upon “common sense?”

Here’s some logic for them to ponder: If you start from an untrue/unproven proposition and extrapolate toward what you want just because you want it, the odds of ending up with a valid conclusion is not very good.

streetsweeper

@ #20: Not disparaging/disrespecting the lawyers that hang out here because they just happen to the best individuals ever but, I do wonder about those “lawyers” in Congress wanting to apply their “common sense”. I also wonder how many time do those “freedom fighters” in Syria have to tell the world they are the one’s that used the sarin gas on Syrians…

Ex-PH2

You cannot use ‘common sense’ and the White House in the same sentence together.

That is not only an oxymoron, it violates all the rules of civilization since the dawn of Time. Do it enough, and the earth might explode.

NHSparky

I want every quote John F’n Kerry used in the 2004 campaign regarding the “rush to war in Iraq” and have it all shoved up his ass.

Ditto Obama’s quotes regarding Iraq, the surge, etc.

Ex-PH2

Just a question, which may not have an answer: What in the blue-eyed world made this moronic dilettante decide that picking a fight with someone in the Middle East would be a good idea?

After all that peacenik stuff, where the hell did this come from? Iran’s current ayatollah has warned that Americans abroad (as in embassies, etc.) will be attacked, which I personally take rather seriously, and we have not withdrawn our troops from Afghanistan, nor have they been told it’s okay to defend themselves just yet.

Can anyone tell me what brought on this insanity?

I know: it’s a rhetorical question and likely has no answer, but none of this makes any sense.

President Obama: Holy underwear! Innocent women and children blown to bits! We have to protect our phoney baloney jobs here, gentlemen! We must do something about this immediately! Immediately! Immediately! Harrumph! Harrumph! Harrumph!
Cabinet Members: Harrumph! Harrumph! Harrumph!
President Obama: (Pointing at Senator xxxx) I didn’t get a Harrumph outta that guy!
Secretary Kerry: Give the President a Harrumph!
Senator xxxxx: Harrumph!
President Obama: You better watch your ass!

(My apologies to Mel Brooks)

As I recall, the last time something happened on September 11th, there was a lot of cleaning up to do.
