Seven more Taliban released

| September 7, 2013

Andy sends us a link to AFP in which they report that Pakistan has released seven more prisoners in addition to the 26 others that have already been released in the last year. Ostensibly, the release is to help out the Afghan peace process.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai urged Pakistan to help arrange peace talks between his government and the Taliban during a visit to Islamabad last week to meet with new Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Infuriated by the opening in June of a Taliban office in Qatar, considered a precursor towards talks with US officials, Karzai wants Pakistan to help open dialogue with the insurgents.

But analysts doubt whether Pakistan has the influence to force the Taliban to the negotiating table — and the insurgents have publicly refused all contact with Karzai’s government, branding it a US puppet.

Well, you know what? As long as we’re all releasing Taliban prisoners and everyone wants to “facilitate the peace process”, the Taliban or the Haqqani or whoever should be releasing Bowe Bergdahl – the only US prisoner of war there. I mean, if we’re getting all kumbayah as we rush for the exits, it seems to me that the Karzai Administration would be more than happy to negotiate for the young buck sergeant’s release. Fair is fair, right?

Immediately following their release, they were issued an AKM, an RPG and told to “Enjoy their freedom”

Interesting that with all the talk about our impending exit from A-stan, there has been no talk of bringing Bergdahl home with us.
Guess this administration, like others before it, never heard of “No man left behind.”
