NRA; Dom Raso on “Deterrence”
The folks at the NRA send us their latest commentary on guns starring former Navy SEAL Dom Raso as he talks about the power of deterrence in regards to guns;
A lot of good people either aren’t willing or aren’t capable of thinking like a criminal. They don’t realize that, for these guys, crime is just a job. It’s how they pay the bills. They don’t want to take the risks that they don’t have to. And for them, every gun in the hands of a good guy — whether it’s a police officer or a citizen — is risk that they don’t want to take. Those guns that you never see or think about, behind locked doors, and concealed in purses and under jackets, make you safer.
You’ll never hear it in the media because for them if no one gets shot it’s not a story. But it’s not like there aren’t any criminals in Houston. They just don’t like taking chances that put their lives at risk. That’s the power of the Second Amendment.

When are legislators going to realize that the only people who are affected by “gun control” are law abiding citizens ? Criminals are already breaking the law.
NavCWORet: there you go again, using facts and logic to argue against gun control . . . .
@1 They will never realize it, because they don’t care to lose those sound bite and photo op moments….
I always get p1ssed off here in Massachusetts when we have a law on the books about having an illegal firearm being a mandatory 1 year sentence for two reasons, the first being that a person committing a felony with a 15 year or more sentence is hardly worried about adding a year for the weapon, and the second reason is that the weapon charge is often dropped to encourage a plea deal so very few perps face the charge.
But let some poor b4stard forget to keep the weapon in the trunk locked in a box coming home from hunting and wow, you’d think they struck the arms cache of the decade….
Sorry, don’t know what came over me. You’d think, as long as I was in the Navy, I’d have leaned better by now.
@1. They know it. They all know it. They like to know it. (Louis the Somethingth, History of the World) Seriously, they are so good at the game that even some of us believe that THEY believe their crap. They want the guns. That’s the end game and that’s all.
Yep! weather the bad guys are thugs or gubbment (I repeat myself), it’s all the same. They’d rather have unarmed victims.
Which leads me to a side track. If the current gubbment regime (that includes both wings, Republitards and Demonrats, of the same vulture) gains its ultimate goal to disarm all citizens, and make future serfs (not citizens) afraid to look at, or even think about, a gun without peeing themselves and going into convulsions — who will the elites be able to recruit into the military services when our overseas enemies realize that we’re now just a bunch of unarmed scared shitless pansies??
@1
I might just be a dumb Marine, but I think they already know it, they just don’t care.
They realize the statistical likelihood of any of them, or even anybody they care about, ever being affected by gun violence or violent crime is astronomically low.
Yah, Giffords was shot. That was by a crazy guy. Those occasions, while regrettable, are only noteworthy because of their relative rarity.
They know they can disarm the populace, turn us all into either criminals (because we keep our weapons) or victims (because we obey the law) and it won’t harm the safety of them and theirs one iota.
The only thing they care about is that vote. They’ll follow two things, polls and money. Their handlers, on the other hand, are a different story.
They’re the true believers. They’re the scary ones. They’re the frightened little bed wetters who desperately want a world where nobody can possibly hurt anyone else. So they’re playing the long game. Start sowing the seeds of willing disarmament now, play the game. Get the idea of a gun free America in the populations consciousness, by going at it through the children. Use government education as brainwashing facilities. Why do you think they campaign so hard against charter schools? They can’t control them. Teachers and their unions have nothing to do with it. If it were at all expedient, they’d turn on them faster than Matt Damon got his kid in a private school. They recognize schools for what they are, the places to manipulate and pollute the minds of those too young and too inexperienced to defend against them.
So while the politicians are absolutely culpable for such bullshit, it’s their “advisers” and the ones who control the purse strings that are the real evil. The politicians are guilty of the sin of selfishness. But those other guys, they’re the ones doing the real damage to our country.
Houston has bad guys? I’m shocked – SHOCKED! to hear it.
