Bloomberg’s taxpayer funded internet

| June 24, 2013

I saw hints of this last week on Twitter, but I’m not in the habit of scooping folks, so I’ve been waiting for Ace of Spades blogger John Ekdahl to tell the story. But it looks like Nanny Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns (more accurately “Mayors Against Guns We Don’t Own”) has been using the City of New York taxpayers-paid internet to host the 501(c)4 organization’s website;

At first I pinged mayorsagainstillegalguns.org and found that it was resolving at a New York City government IP address.

It turns out I didn’t even have to look that closely, because the mayorsagainstillegalguns.org domain is registered to the city of New York. As you can see there, the registrant name is “NYC DoITT”, which is the New York City Department of Information Technology & Telecommunications.

Bloomberg’s spokesdingus says;

Bloomberg’s aides forcefully defended the arrangement, batting down questions of impropriety by pointing out the distinction between Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which is the coalition of mayors, and the group’s “action fund,” which is the vehicle for political spending.

The activities of the mayors’ group “are in the interest of keeping New York City safe,” John McCarthy, a spokesman for Bloomberg, told Politico. “He is acting in his capacity as mayor of New York City.”

Yeah, I’m not a tax code lawyer or anything, but it seems to me that this is illegal, and if it’s not illegal, it’s unethical for the mayor of New York (who really isn’t anyone, any-f*cking-way outside of New York City) to stick his nose in national politics with a “non-profit” organization funded by the taxpayers with or against their wills. Do you mean to tell me that Hiz-Dingus can’t afford to find his own hosting service somewhere? I mean, I did and I’m almost, but not quite, as rich as Bloomberg. Why is he saddling the taxpayers with this – like I said, if it’s not illegal, it’s unethical to say the least.

Oh, yeah, the name of the organization is “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” there’s an “s” after the first word, to me that means the word is plural, so why are New York City taxpayers picking up the tab for those other cities who want to stick their nose in our business?

Because “this is what you want, and this is what you’re gonna pay for it” is the way they roll.

Mike Bloomberg would never do anything unethical, illegal or even remotely dishonest. He is the smartest, bravest, most moral human in human history. His $8 billion can’t be wrong!

This guy is such a corrupt and immoral sh1t bag he gives sh1t bags a bad name….because he has more than the rest of you underachievers he feels he should be able to direct your lives for you and solve your problems for you because you are not equipped to make the appropriately correct decisions on running your own life.

He will gladly take over all of your decision making, he and the other leftist pukes who know better than you what is best for you.

I am damn near convinced that Hiz Dingus (like it!) goes so far left just to make the other leftist pukes appear reasonable. You knmow, “WEell, it could be worse. Bloomberg could be our (prse/gov/mayor/senator/congressman). The kwaziest thing is that the SOB used to be a Republican. Yeah, that’s right. Now, tell me the difference between a Republican and Democrat again, please. It’s like a dime or two nickles. Take you pick.

This is just wrong. But we who see that seem to be in the minority these days.

Hell, it’s New York City-the home of all that is soft and sweet in people. Who’d need a weapon?

@6 if you are white or asian you really don’t have much to worry about….whites and asians are only 10% of the victims of homicide in NYC….

Discussing why blacks and hispanics commit 90% of the murders and represent 90% of the victims is hard work and uncomfortable, far better for the mayor to blame the guns and 24 oz soda pop…..stealing taxpayer broadband for a non-profit organization is just a means to an end. As with all liberals, the ends do in fact justify the means in spite of their rhetoric to the contrary.

This is an example of why I would not live in NYC if you gave me the Trump Tower Penthouse and all the money I needed to live there.

@7-Veritas, While I couldn’t agree with you more as regards diversion/theft of public funds, I have no dog in the fight between liberals and conservatives. The whole political process IMHO has been hijacked by the radicals of both persuasions. I haven’t seen any politics of any kind that have provided the middle class (Me and almost everyone I know) with any services that are an improvement from past circumstance. Our infrastructure is falling apart (we’ve had bridges & buildings collapsing here as if we are a 3rd world country). Our roadways stink, and big cities are deferring maintenance to critical components so as to be able to fund excessive pension plans. There’s only a free-market economy until big business-by it’s own disingenuousness, finds itself in danger of failure- ably illustrated, in recent actions taken by both parties. I vote in every election but the sad fact is, the choices I’m left with are to try and pick those political animals (think skunk, polecat-any varmint will do) who will do the least harm to our great nation. That’s getting increasingly more difficult to do!

Sorry about the rant-but I’m just frustrated with what’s happening to America!

Bloomberg wasn’t elected for his strong, Christian moral values. He makes people rich, and a fat wallet does dampen New Yorkers’ moral outrage.

Joe Kennedy said it best: ‘every man has a price.’ We know the cost of NYC.

Chicago has commuter rail bridges that are literally disintegrating. I used to take the train to and from work every day, and still shudder to think what will happen when one of those bridges finally collapses during rush hour, simply from the weight of a Metra train and its engines.

And yet, like the control freak Bloomberg, who can’t see past the end of his nose, Rahm Emanual ignores what NEEDS to be fixed in favor of creating a hiker greenway out of an abandoned rail line. When, and if, these clowns ever see how shallow they are, as the rest of us see them, I’ll be happy. It’s hopeless on my part, I know, but it’s just a thought.

There’s a name for the panic-attack reaction to what’s on the surface, e.g., gun control laws and this ‘mayors alliance’, and not addressing the real, underlying causes, i.e., lack of jobs. ‘Tunnel vision’ or something like that. You only see what you want to see, and that is what you address. It’s like patching a hole in a dike without really looking at the dike, which has leaks everywhere.
