Walter Reed caregivers furloughed

| May 31, 2013

More “not balancing the budget on the backs of veterans”. ABC, WJLA 7 in DC reports that among the furloughed DoD personnel will be caregivers at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. If you watch the brief video, disregard the fact that the footage is of the old Walter Reed facility in Northwest DC which is why it looks abandoned – it is abandoned;

Hospital officials have confirmed that some employees have already received notice that they’ll be furloughed without pay for 11 days – one day a week for the next 11 weeks.

Other employees will be getting their letters soon.

Walter Reed says it’s not yet able to say exactly how many hospital employees are being furloughed — or how this will impact patient care.

No one is more aware of the waste and duplication at Walter Reed than me, but you can probably be certain that none of the furloughs will affect the waste and duplication. There are 68,000 Defense Department employees who are exempt from the furlough. Wouldn’t it make sense to exempt caregivers? I’m sorry but I spent today’s ration of outrage on the Hagel story below. I’m all out of outrage.

Thanks to Cameron for the link.

What’s next? They’ve already removed the midrats from the Marines in Afghanistan. Are they going to ration bullets now?

toothless dawg

The government is probably going to spend more to do the paperwork and accounting to furlough these people than they would to keep them on the payroll. For hourly personnel it may be enough to put a code in the timecard thingymajigs but what about salaried personnel? How about figuring the 401 information, and all the tax deductions, not to mention leave time. This bull crap is all political.

@Ex-PH2 … Shhhh, don’t give them any ideas!!!

@ Ex-PH2….NO BULLETS FOR FOOD!!!! NO BULLETS FOR FOOD!!!! NO BULLETS FOR FOOD!!!!

Ex-PH2

Isn’t there a movie that has the bullets rationed to the troops, or something like that?

I can think of at least one Walter Reed employee that should be permanently furloughed. Disbarred lawyer that is a local city councilman in North Carolina, but somehow pulls a $35 an hour EO job in Maryland. Refuses to resign from his elected post even though he’s never here. Piece of work. Brother was a high profile college football coach.

Ridiculous, but all too common now.

And why in the world would Ch 7 used footage from the old Walter Reed…sheesh.

How is Hagel going to be able to pay all those sexual harassment prevention personnel if he doesn’t furlough people who are actually involved in currently helping veterans?

This is bullshit IMO. How about they send some furlough notices to some good for nothing Senators who don’t seem to do much anyways.

The Imperious One has a Martha’s Vineyard vacay coming up, and the money jar is a bit low…yeah also, Bam and Moochelle need their seperate his & hers AF1 flights, so the Pentagon needs to dig a little deeper under the couch cushions for loose change.

Fat never gets cut by budget reductions.
