Rivera faces court martial
I first wrote about Kimberly Rivera back on New Year’s Day 2009. She deserted while on mid-tour leave from Iraq. I’m sure her flight to Canada didn’t hinder our mission there, but it’s the idea that she up-and-left while her unit was waiting for her to come back and scrub the porta-potties and supervise the burn pit. But Canada has been trying to eject her baby-factory ass for the last four years. I guess she’s finally left and now she’s facing a court martial according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.
A Fort Carson soldier who became the first woman to flee to Canada to avoid a second tour in Iraq will face a court martial Monday.
Pfc. Kimberly Rivera, who is assigned to the post’s 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team is charged with desertion.
Rivera went to Canada in February 2007 after saying she could no longer support the mission in Iraq, where she had served a year earlier, The Associated Press reported.
Yeah, it wasn’t the war. Her over-nourished husband got tired of taking care of his progeny while she went to Iraq – by the way, he talked her into joining the Army while they were living on her parents’ basement and squirting out babies while they both worked at WalMart. They took the signing bonus that she got for joining the Army and spent it on a leather couch which they abandoned when they went to Canada where she continued squirting out babies at Canadian taxpayer expense.
According to her interview in Marie Claire, she went to Canada because her plus-sized husband was pouting while he played his video games while she was home on leave, so she decided to abscond. If it was up to me, her husband would be on trial along side her, because he is a huge waste of skin and he’s as much at fault for this as Kimberly.
But they’re both shitbags. I wonder if he’ll pout when he takes the kids to see Mom in the brig.

I served on a court-martial panel for a desertion case (at Fort Carson, coincidentially) and I’d say that she will most likely have a pretty tough time at trial. The circumstances of the trial I sat on were a little different in that the accused didn’t try to hide behind politics, but I clearly remember deliberating in a room with other officers all wearing combat patches, with one exception, and hearing absolutely no sympathy for someone who bailed on their deployment. In that case the prosecution asked for two years’ confinement and the panel I was on came back into the courtroom with a three year sentence. That desertion really pissed us off and the more equivocation and justification the accused tried to bring up just made it worse. If she is serious about staying out of prison she needed to go into contrition mode like five years ago.
I understand the need for military justice, but a part of me kinda wishes these turds just stay in Canada and let the Canucks feed them on their own public dime…

Would like to see her get at least a year or two, but based on the last few desertion cases I’m guessing she won’t. I’m guessing conviction, a short confinement (1 to 3 mo), and a DD.
As long as she gets some time and a DD I guess I can live with that.

I have never had a cat that was not neutered or spayed, because as much as I love kittens, especially when they curl up in my lap or snuggle under the covers in the winter, there are enough cats right now that need good homes.
I completely support the trap/spay-neuter-vaccinate/release programs for feral cats.
A little snip on the reproductive lines on these two would certainly do no harm. Then we could turn them loose in the wild again.

Part of me thinks that her sentence should be serving the years that she has been out but on isolated bases where she can’t escape. But inflicting her on her fellow soldiers could be a problem.
I bet her parents are thrilled that they’re back… Not only do I think it’s a waste of resources to punish her or attempt to recoup her bonus, I think they should give her *another* $8,000 if she agrees to renounce her citizenship and stay in canada.

The article from Yahoo on her calls her a “war resister” instead of the more accurate title of deserter. Me? I prefer the title Oath Breaker and would like the Court Martial to go MiddleEarth on her ass and sentence her tortured soul to wander for eternity or until her honor is restored.
Not that this really matters but if I remember correctly, she was not on a second tour of Iraq. She was home on her midtour leave and refused to go back. If true, the newspaper is playing fast and loose with the facts.

(She told her kids,kindergarten age and younger,that she either had to “Come home or Die and since she didn’t want to die she came home to her family. She was guarding a gate but now someone else is”) She lied to her own fucking kids!! I too have 3 kids,and I go out of my way to teach them right from wrong and no matter what to tell the truth. Way to set an example there butthorn!
(on another note after having 3 kids I just learned Kindergarten is with a “T” not a “D” . Yay,for public schools!!! ) Haha!
