Germany steps up

| April 18, 2013

According to the Stars & Stripes, Germany has offered to provide about 800 additional troops to Afghanistan to help train the Afghan Army after the US leaves next year;

[German] Defense Minister Thomas de Maiziere said Berlin is offering to station between roughly 600 and 800 soldiers in Kabul and the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif for a two-year period starting in 2015. They would provide training, advice and support to local forces but not engage in combat missions.

Germany now has about 4,170 troops in Afghanistan, mostly in the north, which has been a relatively calm region.

the Germans say that first they need to be invited by the Afghan government and then the move would need to be approved by the next German government after this year’s elections in the Fall.

All right, you FREAKING losers. I congratulate you on discerning the location from which I posted through my IP address, I didn’t think your little Monkey Brains could do that but they won’t be able to after I impale them anyway.

I’m calling YOU OUT.

If any of you want to fight me, The Impaler, and have his blood offered to Satan, meet me in Baychester Bronx.

Before agreeing to do that, the Germans might want to find some older US guys who served as advisers/trainers to the RVN Army circa 1961-1964 and see how that went. They may well be signing up for something they don’t fully comprehend.

They might also be well advised to read Neil Sheehan’s “A Bright Shining Lie”, as well as other stories of how well the RVN Army actually performed in 1962-1964 with the benefit of US advisers and training. In particular, they might find accounts of the Battle of Ap Bac in Jan 1963 quite instructive.

Sharkey, no one really gives a damn about anything you say. You’re being ignored. You’re yesterday’s news – and not worth the time.

I just decided to be nice and let you know that. Now, how about you go play in rush-hour NYC traffic.

Sharkey, go impale your ass on a rubber fist already. The adults are talking here.

That being said, I don’t see any good from the Germans adding what amounts to little more than a token force to an already token force. Not taking away from their abilities, but 5000 troops in the ‘Stan? Which translates to how many trigger pullers?

Yeah, shades of Mogadishu right there.

Jonathon Livingston Seagull I remember. This guy, not so much. Hondo has been playing and has dredged up some crap on legs.

Wonder if the Germans are angling to do business in A’stan…perhaps exploring feasibility of mining the allegedly vast deposits of lithium?

Hondo

Devtun: could be. The Germans had a fair presence in Kabul during the 1920s and 1930s if I recall correctly. And the toilets (where they still existed) in some places in Kabul certainly seemed to be the old-style German “inspection-shelf” models.
