The Senate is set to vote on the Harry Reid gun control bill tomorrow. The gruesome gun grabbers trotted out their dead yesterday to justify their votes against the rights of Americans, says the Washington Post;
On Tuesday, the subject of gun control — and emotional reminders of gun violence — overtook Washington. Relatives of those killed in December’s mass shooting in Newtown, Conn., made solemn visits to senators’ offices on Capitol Hill. On the Senate floor, Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.) mentioned his father’s death by a self-inflicted gunshot.
Not that background checks would have prevented any of the “big three” incidents that seem to haunt the gun debate in Congress, but for some reason, Reid related his father’s death to a three-day waiting period. I guess his father wouldn’t have shot himself if he’d had to wait three days. I don’t what that has to do with background checks, but I know if my son was a draft-dodging whiner, I’d have probably killed myself no matter how long I had to wait.
No one is mentioning whether the current legislation contains provisions for storing the data from universal background checks, but since that’s Tom Coburn’s sticking point and he hasn’t said that he’s supporting the legislation, I’m guessing that provision is still in the bill.
The Washington Times says that WV’s Joe Manchin and PA Republican Pat Toomey are supporting the legislation, so I’ve been faxing my Senators today.
Mr. Manchin, West Virginia Democrat, and Mr. Toomey, Pennsylvania Republican, both have “A” ratings from the National Rifle Association, potentially giving the the deal the kind of political weight needed to achieve a bipartisan vote capable of overcoming a filibuster.
The details of the package aren’t yet clear and will be announced later on Wednesday, according to NBC.
I’m sure the details won’t be complete enough, but my Senators know that I oppose any stockpiling of background check records. And I don’t know what the Post is talking about here;
A bipartisan group of senators has struck a deal to expand gun background checks to all commercial sales — whether at gun shows, via the Internet or in any circumstance involving paid advertising, according to Senate aides familiar with the talks.
I’ve bought some of my weapons at gun shows and on the internet and I’ve gone through background checks every time, so I guess I don’t know what the Hell anyone is talking about anymore. And I don’t think they do either.
By the way, for West Virginia residents, the state Senate is considering legislation today that would exempt CCW license holders from background checks when they purchase weapons. You might want to tell your Senator that you’re tired of going through background checks every time you turn around.

So much easier to trot out the families of a couple of senseless killings than to trot out the MILLIONS who have avoided harm by use (or even just display) of a gun.
I already know how my senators are voting, so calling them would have no effect on their vote. They have been warned many times, but there are enough ignorant voters in this state, that they can count on for reelection, that they don’t really worry about it. Although, Al Franken is up for reelection and he may be in trouble, especially with gun owners.
I buy weapons on Gunbroker.com and every one of them have to be shipped to an FFL holder who then does the required background checks….. I do not understand what they are trying to accomplish.

It’s getting more ridiculous by the day. Legislators in Rhode Island are proposing a ban on all semi-automatic weapons.

Well I know I sound like a f#cking broken record on this, but once again dead white kids are far more sexy for something like this than dead black kids….of course we kill more blacks and hispanics every single day of the year all year long than died in Newtown but nobody gives a sh1t about those dead minority kids because their parents don’t have any money and most of their parents don’t give a sh1t about them either or the kids wouldn’t be in gangs murdering each other….. That’s a conversation we should have, but the liberals don’t like that conversation because their welfare state created the current status quo for blacks who now have bastard children in about 72% of their families and who abort their babies at a rate 4 times higher than whites. Blacks are less than 14% of the population but they account for somewhere between 30-35% of all the abortions in the US….black fathers are the most irresponsible fathers in the nation with hispanic dads not too far behind….that’s why their black and hispanic children make up 90% of the victims and 90% of the perpetrators of the homicides in NYC and have a similar percentage in other large cities across the nation. Nah f#ck those conversations, let’s just keep showing some sad, rich, white folks whose children suffered a terrible tragedy and make some rules up that won’t make any other rich, white folks kids any safer than they are today. And let’s just keep pretending that the Adam Lanzas are the real danger in America when it comes to the average persons chance of being murdered…that way we can all keep our heads in the f#cking sand and pretend it’s all good, even when it’s not. What, VOV? You actually expect a lib to see reality when it might mean an admission that their calculated development of a permanent underclass has served no one well? They have spent $billions getting us down this road – they certainly could never admit that it is a complete failure. Or a complete success, depending upon which part of the agenda one believes.
And we who ponder real statistics are written off as racists when we point out that while the majority of welfare queens are still white, the impact of the delusional welfare policies have disporportionately impacted the black community.

@6: The reason it’s not sexy enough is because your examples are individual. In the aggregate, it’s much, much more, however, when it happens in one shooting, then it gets noticed. Statistically, in overall deaths with guns, Newtown is insignificant. Granted, any deaths, especially of children should be significant, but when just looking at numbers, it isn’t.
Why only bring 11 parents? Could it be that the other 9 don’t believe in Obama’s agenda?

Newsflash: Japan has a much harsher set of Gun Control laws. They also have a significantly higher suicide rate.

Well, one of the problems with those killings is the race of the killers. That’s the main reason the media and the pols won’t talk about it.
If I told you that twice as many blacks are murdered by blacks EVERY SIX MONTHS than were killed by the KKK and other white-supremacy groups between 1882 and 1968, you would probably not believe it. And I couldn’t blame anyone for disbelieving that astounding statement. It cuts against the indoctrination grain. The source, by the way is Tuskegee University.

This information is from a 2011 United States Department of Justice report released by Obama.
So if you summarize the data, the problem is with black males between 18 – 24, both as perpetrators AND victims. But I guess having a bunch of them standing behind you while talking about gun control wouldn’t be sympathetic to the bleeding hearts out there the way 20 little white kids will, even though they would “look like Obama’s son if he had one”.
@15 There is indeed a reason why a missing white woman in Aruba was national news for months, or a white woman who killed her daughter was national news for a year…..white folks go missing lots of lead stories…blacks or hispanics, not so much.
But hey, we’re not racists or anything. After all everybody is equal under the law, sort of, depending on your race and economic status that is…well and also who you are related to…
@16 Not at all surprised, here’s another “fun fact”… thanks to abortion almost twice as many black children die in the womb each year than blacks of all ages die from all other causes…
I’m not done with all my research but in ’09 a total of 286,000 blacks died from all causes and all ages….that same year about 423,500 black babies were aborted…
