More of That “Arab Spring” Freedom

| April 8, 2013

I thought the whole point of that “Arab Spring” stuff was to get rid of restrictive, autocratic governments and to promote freedom.  And I thought that’s why the current administration supported the “Arab Spring” movements in Libya, Tunisia, and Egypt while they deposed stable governments in each nation.

But I must have been wrong, at least when it comes to Egypt.

It seems as if Egypt has now started arresting activists – as well as comedians accused of insulting President Morsi.  Hmm.  Those same kinds of things are what Mubarak did, if I recall correctly – and was one of the reasons why the “Arab Spring” folks wanted him gone.

Egypt is also debating new laws that will give the state sweeping powers to regulate civil society.  Hmmm.  I seem to recall Mubarak being castigated for doing that also.  But maybe I’m wrong about that, too.

And I don’t recall Murbarak ever declaring NGO funds provided from sources abroad to be “public funds” – like one new law supported by Morsi and his ilk in Egypt’s parliament would do.

But fear not:  that decision to support the Arab Spring protestors and throw valued US allies out on their ear was a good one.  Otherwise, the POTUS and his staff wouldn’t have made it, right?

Yeah, right.  I’m really getting the impression of “déjà vu all over again” – 33+ years later.  Think Teheran, 1978.

We’re still paying the price for that Carter-era idiocy.  I wonder how long we’ll be paying for this latest naïve foolishness?

We’re going to be paying for a long, long, time.

It may well get worse. Besides the DHS massive buys of ammo and MRAPs, besides Democrat attempts to erode and then emasculate the 2nd amendment, comes the news that one of Chuckie Shumer’s pals has written up a new bill to present to Congress to overturn Presidential term limits.

Yes, you read that right. He proposes a Constitutional amendment that would permit the current Resident to be reelected as many times as he’d like to be. See here for more:

I don’t think they have the votes right now to get it approved by Congress, let alone the states, BUT……. they obviously intend to keep trying until they get what they want: A Leftist tyranny.

That’s what the Democrats mean when they say “bipartisan”. They mean demanding that Conservatives agree to everything they demand.

Off topic: The Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher passes away at age 87 from a stroke. She and Ronald Reagan formed one of the greatest partnerships between foreign leaders in modern times. Only British PM of 20th century to win 3 terms.

Sorry Bambi, your no Reagan or Thatcher…not even close.

ComancheDoc

Serrano has been trying to repeal the 22A for years, if I’m not mistaken, even during Bushs terms.

Just think of the thousands of lives which would not have been lost had the right thing been done by Carter. Every death (ours and theirs), every inconvenience, and every dollar spent is on the heads of the lefty “peaceniks.”

There’s a LOT of blood on their hands!

@1, that same legislation has been proposed by both Dems and republicans regarding term limits and under every President since Bush Sr.
DHS never purchased or intended to purchase massive numbers of MRAPS. That was an internet rumor based on a photo of one of the few that they do own and a contract that DoD had to refurbish and upgrade 2700 MRAPs for the Navy.
The ammo… that as well is out of context. Those are contracts for potential purchase over 5-6 years not a single year purchase or even a guarantee that they would even purchase that much. They have not bought massive amounts of ammo…

Ammo purchases we have experienced are more to the panic buying that has gone on since Obama became president. I remember stories of the run on gun stores that began before he even took office, and they have not let up since. In fact with recent real events, they have increased.

now on to the reality of the Arab Spring… hate it when those who called it for what it was are right. The fact that we continue to send them money, and sell them Fighters is disgusting.
Thes idiotic decisons made by the White House are going to bite us in the ass for years to come.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

So freedom for the Egyptians means the freedom to commit gang rapes in the city park and have the women be blamed for being victimized….

Right, these are indeed the very kind of people that Obama and the gang have promoted as a great alternative….

If they perhaps had read anything about the middle east and had perhaps even a tiny clue of the politics that a renowned international figure like Obama claims to be should have regarding the middle east they would have seen through this charade as another coup by another despot in a region known for such things since Cleopatra…..

Once again the media takes Obama’s word at face value without a single question as to the veracity of his comments or the reality of his views….it’s similar to an episode of the “Twilight Zone” for me, I can’t seem to wake up from this dream where everyone believes exactly the opposite of what they did a few years ago and no one seems to notice or mind.

@7. VOV. I wish I could reassure you that there is a vast army of knowledgable and aware Americans who are ready to awake from their slumber, kick ass, and take names. But they are too busy right now watching TV and playing video games.

rb325th – the amount of ammo contracted is still a HUGE amount, even if spread over 5-6 years. Works out to 1500 rounds per year for every Fed authorized to carry a gun.
Or as one comparison noted, roughly 30 years’ of peak Iraq war usage.

How many rounds does each infantryman get a year?
