Shooting at Quantico

| March 22, 2013

Three marines are dead, reportedly, at Quantico Marine Base in Virginia. Local DC news reports;

It began with a shooting around 11 p.m. Thursday that left one dead, said Lt. Agustin Solivan. That shooting lead to a standoff between authorities and the suspect, who was barricaded in barracks at the base.

Authorities entered the barracks early Friday and found the suspect dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound along with a second victim. Solivan could not say what prompted authorities to enter the barracks.

According to other news reports, all three were staff at the Officer Candidate School.

Old Tanker

I feel badly, this has not been a good week for the Marines…

Ex 344MP

What Old Tanker said……… Not a good week for the Marines at all………

RunPatRun

Sad.

Base Cdr just held news conference, here is the latest update: http://www.wtop.com/120/3259526/3-dead-at-Quantico

dnice

Really upsetting. Tough week indeed. I will pray for the Fallen, their family and friends.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Yeah, my thoughts too when I heard this on the radio this morning…this sucks on just about every level I can think of….

SJ

Ditto what others gave said. It’s one (bad) thing when we lose someone in a war zone, but somehow more terrible when folks that have made it out of a war zone alive fall in CONUS.

How long will it be before Harry blames this on the sequester and Difi on gun control? Even though having a weapon on any base is a huge no-no.

@6: I’m definitely NOT in the mood to hear any speculation from any Congresscritter on this crime. The only thing I want to hear from any elected official is condolences towards the families. If they can’t do that, then they should keep their hateholes shut until further notice.

AW1 Tim

A bad week all around.

May the angels of mercy bring solace to the families and friends of all these Marines.

Whitey_wingnut

Thoughts and Prayers to family and friends.

LanceCooley

A very bad week, indeed; God be with their families.

Nicki

@6 – That was my first thought too.

Horrible. 🙁

Possibly love triangle situation?

NHSparky

@12–not worth speculating on at this point. Save it.

That being said, prayers up for the victims and the families.

Ex-PH2

Let’s not speculate. It is grossly inappropriate to do so with something like this.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

Three Dead Marines. Simply sad!

Shame on the POLS who will inject this into politics by days end!

Hondo

Definitely bad. May God be with the surviving families and friends.

BohicaTwentyTwo

@12 my thoughts as well. Two males and one female. All were staff at OCS.

2/17 Air Cav

Two murders and a suicide invite speculation but we’ll learn the sordid details soon enough.

MAJMike

Not good.

Eleven years of over-deployment may be a factor. Nothing in SW Asia is worth the blood of one Texas grenadier.

CWO5 USMC

A very bad week, that’s an understatement.

@12 and @17…. Word around the office here is that’s exactly how this will play out. If you look at history, OCS staff had another scandal a year or so ago, Marines courtmartialed and NJP’d….if my memory remembers it correctly.

TrapperFrank

My prayers are with the Marines, Semper Fi and God speed.

A Proud Infidel

Absolutely nothing good about that, GOD be with them and the rest of the USMC, this is the last thing on Earth that any branch of the US Military needs right now, I just hope and pray that the liberal scumbags don’t go tapdancing for the news cameras over this like they did on Sandy Hook!

I was staff at OCS for 4 years. Love triangles and relationship scandals are nothing new to OCS, we had many while I was there. Talking to all my old buddies that I worked with, all are on the same page, we saw something like this coming eventually. I will not say that it was a relationship gone sour, but it is appearing more and more like that.

USMCE8Ret

Tragic – and sad. I just hope the clowns in the beltway don’t start speculating and let NCIS do their job.

@21 – I suspect health and comfort inspections will come back, regardless of how the gun was introduced into the barracks. I wonder if they’ll start arming DNCO’s and SDNCO’s? They could use some beefed up security at the Marsh Building and “Puzzle Palace” for sure.

CWO5 USMC

@24 – Roger all. Although some of that may play to what ranks were involved, NCO or SNCO? I haven’t seen alot (dare I say any?) health and confort inspections in the SNCO brks in my time….nor would I expect there to be.

I definately wouldn’t want this investigation. I doubt it’s going to resolved quickly. In situations like this, the more you peel the onion, the more layers there are. IMO, this will be very involved and complicated if/when the truth comes out. It’s a shame, pure and simple.

Rerun0369

@24-OOD’s are already armed. We have a M9 with 30 rounds of ammunition when we stand duty. The DNCO’s are not.
