Karzai’s mouth puts US troops on alert

| March 14, 2013

According to the New York Times, recent comments by Afghan President Hamid Karzai have triggered a command threat advisory to troops stationed there in support of Karzai’s government.

Frustration with Mr. Karzai was clear in the alert, known as a command threat advisory, sent on Wednesday by Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr. to his top commanders. “His remarks could be a catalyst for some to lash out against our forces — he may also issue orders that put our forces at risk,” the advisory read.

Senior American military officials confirmed that a copy of the advisory obtained by The New York Times was genuine, although they said it had not been intended to be released publicly. While threat advisories are circulated routinely, one directly from the commanding general is unusual, one Western official said.

The threat advisory specifically mentioned Mr. Karzai’s comments about Bagram Prison, calling it an “inflammatory speech,” and warning commanders to be on guard against heightened insider attacks by Afghan forces against Westerners, as well as opportunistic Taliban violence. The order came after a recent rise in violence, including an insider attack that killed two American servicemembers and a bombing that struck the capital just after Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel arrived for a visit last week.

Someone should be issuing a “command threat advisory” to Karzai. Of course, Karzai’s comments are meant to bolster his own image at home, but surely even someone as ignorant and backwards as Karzai realizes what the result might be, given that his fellow goat herders riot at the drop of a hat. I guess Karzai isn’t happy that “insider attacks” are down.

Bring ’em home, bomb the place into the Stone Age.

It’ll be an improvement over what they had before we got there.

@2. Save the bombs. Just let’s get out.

Just who is left to support our presence in Afghanistan? I cannot recall a time when the left was soooooooo quiet and here we have a situation in so many conservatives want our people out and (presumably) all of the left want our people out (for different reasons) and yet, there we are risking the lives of our troops for two ungrateful nations.

It’ll be nice to wave goodbye to Hamid. Shake his hand and say “Enjoy your next/last 2 weeks of your life.”

They never left the Stone Age. As soon as Alexander went back to Egypt, they went right back to tribal warfare.

Put the people on planes back home with as much ‘stuff’ as they can carry, run over what you can’t take with a JERVV, then booby-trap the place and leave. No warning, no discussion, just do it.

Either the boobytraps, or take off and nuke the place from orbit, but get the troops out ASAP.

Right, F#ck Karzai and the goat he rode in on…that stupid son of a b1tch won’t last 6 months after we leave….we should let him know we are gone tomorrow, and good luck with your Taliban friends 4sshole..

Meh, I bet he’s already been secretly granted asylum somewhere and has a luxury apartment in Paris or Stockholm and a $20,000/appearance speaking career already lined up.

I don’t think that anybody likes Karzi, not even the other Afghans. The USA should replace his bodyguards with someone less competent and let nature take its course. Heaven help Afghanistan if they can’t find someone more virtuous to lead their country.

The left are quiet because their opposition to the wars was primarily about cynically making Bush look bad so that they could win elections and achieve their domestic policy objectives. The liberals don’t give a shit about Afghanistan or her people.

It may also amuse you to know that khazi is British slang for a toilet.

When I was in the shithole that is Afghanistan in 2002, Karzai was guarded by U.S. troops (SEALS I believe). The U.S. has done all it can for that rat hole and Karzai is a boy fucking turn coat who would sell his own mother for one more day in power. He has done nothing for that country or his people. He will be starring in a beheading video about 20 minutes after the last U.S. plane pulls off the runway at Bagram.

Twist

@12, He will probably beat our planes out of Bagram to his nice new cushy life in exile paid for by the US taxpayer.

Twist, sadly, you have probably hit the nail firmly on the head. We installed his sorry ass, guess we own him….

Jonn wrote “Karzai’s comments are meant to bolster his own image at home”. Not to correct you, Jonn, but I doubt most of the country even knows who he is, considering how backward-ass the place is. I doubt the average Afghani poppy grower gives a rats ass about what happens in Kandahar, or wherever the hell Karzai hangs his hat.
