Thursday feel good story

| March 7, 2013

Chief Tango sends us a link from Sumner County, Kansas, where a farmer encountered a known-to-be-armed fugitive on a relative’s farm;

“The farmer had advised us that he had confronted the individual and had him at gunpoint and the individual took off running,” said [Sheriff Darren Chambers]. “At that point, the farmer did not feel threatened and allowed the individual to run away.”

But as the man ran away, the farmer realized he was heading toward a relative’s home where a woman might be home alone.

The farmer took his 17-year-old son and a shotgun with him to check the relative’s house east of the Kansas Turnpike about 5:30 p.m.

The relatives were not home, so the farmer and his son decided to check the relative’s outbuildings.

He found the man hiding in one of the buildings.

“The individual jumped out from behind a pile of feed sacks, told the farmer he was going to kill him and attacked,” said Chambers. “As he attacked, the farmer shot him. The individual was deceased right there.”

According to the Wellington Daily News, the farmer is not facing any charges.

One less scumbag.

“The individual was deceased right there.”

Usually when you charge someone with a shotgun, that’s how you end up.

Darwin award!

EX-PH2

If only Kansas had mountains….

NR Pax

“The individual was deceased right there.”

*sniff* Best ending ever. Can’t wait for the Blu-Ray.

This article doesn’t answer the most important question. Did the farmer follow Buckshot Joe’s ROE?

ComancheDoc

@PPR, nope he fired into the subject instead of randomly into the air or through an opaque object, glad the on scene commander has more sense than DerpinJoe.
h/t to the farmer for making the world a better place.

MCPO NYC USN (Ret.)

Good kill … “known-to-be-armed fugitive”

1. Tactical retreat for the sake of unit preservation.
2. Assess the situation.
3. Assemble force protection.
4. Inspect area.
5. When confronted by a subject who is known to be an armed fugitive, and such fugitive says, “I am going to kill you”, kill him first!
6. Deadly force authorized in steps 1 through 5.
6. God Bless America!

NHSparky

Righteous shoot all the way around. Sad that the farmer had to do it, but not nearly as sad if he had become a victim.

HE’S COMING RIGHT FOR US!!!!!!!!

/good shot. Thanks for saving us money.

Andy

And the Darwin award goes to…

Ooid

Wait…he didn’t use the Zerlina Maxwell method and politely request not to be attacked? Or does that only work for women stopping rape?

Twist

He should have used a whistle or a call box.

aaaaandddd CUT!!! End scene!!!

Like I said before, at close range a shotgun is a very forgiving and effective weapon. Of course, it’s not so forgiving if you’re on the reciving end of it.

PintoNag

Discussing using a shotgun for defense, a man once told me, “If you use a shotgun, be prepared to make a mess.”

Veritas Omnia Vincit

@15 Nobody tells you there will be hamburger in your bookcases for months….

Nicely done Mr. Farmer, one sh1tbag down…thousands to go.

MCPO Targets USN (Ret.)

For my upstate fire base, last weekend I bought the Mossberg Tactical 500 pistol grip 12 gauge shorty with a breechers nozzle. I will attempt to use the nozzle as a stamp of approval if the oppotunity permits me (forehead stamp). The grip and slide are quick release and can be converted to long arm bla, bla, bla … yeah I’m running 1 oz load vise shot!

Old Trooper

@15: And a mess you will make. I know this from my youth.

Apparently, the farmer ignored the sage wisdom of the Colorado state Senator and didn’t realize that the “statistics weren’t on his side” even though he had a gun. Good for him, one less dirtball in the world.

bman

Kansas has a very high percentage of veterans. Rural America is armed and experienced.

Roger in Republic

As Billy the Kid said to deputy Bob after he shot same with a load of dimes. “Keep the change,Bob”.

Wild Bill

MCPO at #17, try the Winchester PDX 12g round, 1 slug and 4 00 buck. I think you might like it, when I shot a paper targets and a leftover jack of lantern it did well.

A Proud Infidel

That’s one less dirtbag that the taxpayers will have to feed, clothe and house, GOOD HIT!

Thunderstixx

Warms my heart with a monotonous languor…

I can just visualize it now:
BOO!
BOOM!!

Herbert J Messkit

According to Joe Biden wasn’t the farmer supposed to go to the neighbor’s house and shoot through the door?

UpNorth

@26, maybe he was supposed to go into the relative’s house, find the balcony and fire a couple of rounds in the air?

PALADIN

Probably was a meth head…who else would charge at a armed person with a shotgun ?

Reminds me of when one of my neighbors came home one night late , and found 2 meth heads pilfering his tack room in his barn.
They got the suprize of their lives when he went in and locked the door from the inside….of course he had a hickory axe handle , and proceeded to beat the snot outta the 2 punks.
He was a gentleman about it, and made sure he called the ambulance for em.
The Sheriff gave him a ass chewing and told him the next time to make sure he was armed with something more powerful than an axe handle.

EX-PH2

Paladin, he went easy on them. I’d use a rawhide quirt.

DRT. Dead Right There…gotta love it.

Ogrrre

But, but, but according to his family, the dude was a “sweet teddy bear”, with 2 loving children. Apparently, the family seemed to object, and had my comment removed that pointed out that the perp now taking a dirt nap was a societal predator and a thief, that society as a whole was much better off without him, and that now he would no longer violate the law.

PavePusher

“The individual was deceased right there.”

I do love a happy ending….
