Manchin: “Sure as hell” no one will take your guns
My Senator, Joe Manchin took to YouTube today to tell his constituents that “sure as Hell” no one will take our guns;
In the video Manchin says (from Washington Times);
“Hi, I’m Joe Manchin, and I’ve been hearing rumors and lies about my position on guns,” the West Virginia Democrat says in a 30-second YouTube video published Wednesday and titled “Joe Manchin Talks Honest About Guns.” “I want to be very clear and tell you: I’m a proud gun owner. Nobody’s going to take my guns, and I’m sure as hell not going to let ‘em take your guns.”
“This is a bunch of crap and people talking about things they don’t know what they’re talking about,” he continues. “The only bill that I have worked on and am working on is one that will keep guns out of the hands of criminals and people mentally deranged. And that’s a fact.”
Like I told Manchin in the letter I faxed to him yesterday morning, he’s working with Chuck Schumer on strengthening background checks and Schumer is looking to push for gun registration. Working with Schumer doesn’t make Manchin look good at all. I voted for Manchin because he introduced a Federal Concealed Weapon bill in the Senate, he is the first Democrat whom I’ve voted for since Jimmy Carter in 1976.
Actions speak louder than YouTube videos, Senator.

I wonder why that video looks like it was shot on a phone being held the wrong way.
No, of course they’re not going to take our guns. Until they do.
Wherever you go, there you are.
I don’t trust Manchin. Shot pool with him.
Literally the only purpose for registration is future confiscation. If registration becomes mandatory it’s only a matter of time until it’s true purpose is enacted.
Manchin is a Demorat, AKA LIAR!.
Yeah, ’cause their CURRENT bills don’t confiscate them. They just make it so you can’t buy ’em, replace ’em, sell ’em, or pass them on to your kids. Until they change their mind. Like NY did.
Also, between 8k and 10k angry 2nd Amendment supporters showed up to the NY protest today.
The only bill that I have worked on and am working on is one that will keep guns out of the hands of criminals and people mentally deranged. And that’s a fact.”
You mean we don’t already have laws against that? We do? Then why are you reinventing the wheel?
“Also, between 8k and 10k angry 2nd Amendment supporters showed up to the NY protest today.”
Un-possible! (sarcasm mode) If that were so, surely MSM would have covered it! 😉
NR Pax: he’s doing that because he feels he must “do something” – even if what he does will be counterproductive.
Pretty narrowly stated response… “only bills I have worked on” – oh yeah, how about supporting Feinstein’s ban? That isn’t aimed at keeping guns out of the hands of criminals or mentally deranged – it’s designed to keep weapons out of ALL of our hands.
That’s the amusing part, Hondo. The laws don’t work and when bad things happening, they are sure that the next set of laws will correct the problem.
@#9, the old “do something, even if it’s wrong” scenario, Hondo?
So who’s Rockefeller’s prospective replacement in the Senate for the Dems?
A pro-2d Amendment Manchin endorsement will keep the seat safe for Dems, and that’s what Schumer wants. As for Manchin and principle goes – ask him who Bart Stupak was. Not is.
Faced with a Stupakking by Schumer, Manchin will have a short look in the mirror and vote as he’s told.
Uhmmm, hey, don’t we ALREADY have Federal laws banning the use or possession of firearms by convicted felons and those who have been deemed mentally ill? They’ve been violated repeatedly, and it doesn’t look like more laws will do a damn bit if good, but hey, we’re talking about politicians, some of the stupidest and incompetent critters in existence!!

You forgot the third part of the equation:
Registration => Confiscation => EXTINCTION.
I bet his staff debated for hours whether Joe should have a shootin’ iron on the desk for his video. It was no doubt put to him. He opted for binders. You know, the working image–loose tie, weally weally important stuff on his desk. Whatever. The fact that he feels threatened by the ‘misperception’ that he is part of the gun-grabbing gang is enough to keep him in line.
You voted for Carter??
@18. He was, what?, 18 or 19 in 1976. We all make mistakes.
@18. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad damit. So did I. Carter seemed like a good guy and was, at least, a Veteran. How were we to know he was an inept horse’s ass? It’s not as if his campaign ads said so. He was billed as a peanut farmer, a Washington outsider in no one’s pocket. And his opponent (Gerald Ford) was not someone anyone could get excited about. He was a bacon and tomato sandwich on plain white bread except for one thing: there was no bacon or tomato.
“He was billed as a peanut farmer”. Little did we know that he was actually a peanut brain. And, a giant pussy intimidated by a freakin’ rabbits.
Lots of folks voted for Carter in 1976 because they were (a) pissed about the Nixon pardon, (b) the economy was doing poorly, and (c) they bought Jimmuh the Cluless’ “I’ll clean house as an outsider” BS. They didn’t realize at the time that they were being sold a bill of goods by the living embodiment of the Peter Principle.
Many figured that out fairly quickly afterwards and did not repeat their error in 1980.
When you have someone who claimed to have been an nuke officer in a nuke-you-ler submarine… that shoud be a dead tipoff that he’s a very slow learner at best. I entered active duty the same day he was sworn in, and waited till AFTER the ’80 election to re-enlist. Had he been re-elected, I woulda been gone.
Actually, it didn’t take long to regret our vote for Carter; he gave amnesty to the Vietnam draft dodgers the day after inauguration. One of the reasons I voted for him was because he promised he wouldn’t give away the Panama Canal before the election and then spent his first year in office trying to give it away – and pay the Panamanians to take it. When I got promoted from Corporal to Sergeant, my pay shot up $22/month. And then a month before the 1980 election he tried to buy our votes with a 25% pay raise…too little too late.
