Cuomo patches up SAFE Act

| February 28, 2013

Apparently, the New York legislators and their vaunted governor have decided that they moved too fast too pass their SAFE Act. The first week, they discovered that cops weren’t protected from the draconian ban of weapons and magazines, now they’re moving to protect Hollywood shitbags who might want to film their violent garbage in the State, according to links sent to us by Catherine and Veritas. From the Democrat & Chronicle;

Cuomo and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, D-Manhattan, told reporters Wednesday that the state is not expected to make major changes to the gun-control law adopted Jan. 15. But lawmakers could amend the law so Hollywood productions are exempt from the assault-weapons ban.

“We haven’t talked about the details of it, but the basic concept of should you be able to use these types of guns in movies? The answer is yes,” Cuomo said. “We spend a lot of money in the state bringing movie production here, post-production here. So obviously we would want to facilitate that.”

Yeah, because the Hollywood shitbags whose faces splash across our headlines often enough for their criminal behavior are much more trustworthy than the average New York citizen. From the New York Times;

Mr. Cuomo said Wednesday that while he and lawmakers did not want assault weapons on New York’s streets, they did not intend to ban their use on film shoots, and that concerns had been raised that the new measure could put a damper on the state’s growing film and television industry.

“Should you be able to use these types of guns in movies? The answer is yes,” Mr. Cuomo said in a news conference at the Capitol. “We do spend a lot of money in this state bringing movie production here.”

By the way, 20 of the state’s 62 counties have passed resolutions condemning th SAFE Act and the way it was rammed through the legislative process. 18 other counties are considering resolutions.

5000 people showed up in Albany today to protest the SAFE Act.

So good job, Cuomo. The Maryland Senate did their best to follow in Cuomo’s footsteps today. I hope they’re watching New York.

“WELCOME to Fantasy Island!”

Well, they have to do something for revenue, now that they’re driving away all the real gun business in the state.

I’m surprised Mimber and Remington haven’t threaten to leave that state, given the anti 2A rhetoric spewing out of Albany of late.

Most of the upstate pols voted against the SAFE Act. Many County Sheriffs upstate have come out against it. Their biggest complaint is the extra workload and cost involved in implementing it – yet another unfunded mandate from Albany. They’re getting good at dictating rules without paying for them. As usual, the City pols run the show, and have no idea what goes on in the state past White Plains (other than Albany). They were so concerned about the image these guns project, yet they allow them to be sold to other states and used in films, because it isn’t real, and it won’t affect New Yorkers. Who cares if a rifle I sell to a guy in PA kills someone – it won’t be in NY. Hypocrites all.

There are at leats 35 weapons manufacturers that won’t sell thier products to New York State Police departments either because of the SAFE act. Interesting that so many folks showed up in Albany on a Thursday with bad weather too, to protest this onerous legislation. There is a proposed bill to seperate New York City from the rest of the state but I’m sure that won’t get any traction. About 64% of the legislature is NYC and Long Island reps.

Hey Andrew thanks for the suggestion. If I’m ever in New York I’ll just carry around a video camera along with my pistol. “Don’t worry officer, I’m making a movie, the governor said it’s cool.”

Just remember this shit when Cuomo runs for president in 2016.

A Proud Infidel

@2 Johnny, Yes, Remington has already threatened to pack up and leave NY, and Beretta has said the same to MD.
#5, RK, the last I heard, it was up to 44 the other day!
As to these liberal pols and the mess they’ve made with their knee-jerk legislation, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…..

Remember this crap when Comrade Cuomo runs for the whitehouse in 2016. This asshat would be raking leaves in a rich neighborhood if his daddy had not been a fixture in NY politics. He inherited his job and the political machine from his pop. We need to remind the voters of this fellow traveler’s hatred for the American way.

Cuomo needs Hollywood money and Hollywood talking heads to help his campaign for POTUS.

CI Roller Dude

The republic of California has laws like that also…citizens can’t buy some guns, but the dummies in hollywood can. Full retard

The Immutable Law of Unintended Consequences is just revving up. Wait until it gets into full motion, it’ll be unstoppable.
Does anyone remember the Robert Heinlein book, “Friday”? The basic society background of the story was a balkanized America (nothing about how it got that way). Maybe what we’re seeing here is the start of that balkanization.

The Dead Man

#12 It’s not just Friday that featured that, a lot of sci-fi authors of the day said the same thing. Even today sci-fi writers used it as an idea and in particular it’s a favorite of Masamune Shirow, it’s popped up in games and a few other things.

That said, I’ve been using Friday for the last 3-4 years.

When I sent this link along to Jonn I was shocked to see that they didn’t actually give a sh1t about the decent manufacturing jobs that would be lost when the weapon manufacturers relocate to the South/West…but they were worried about the Hollywood film industry….it’s interesting to me that most of these actors have lives that are public train wrecks of drugs, infidelity, and booze yet they are the very folks the New York governor is trying to attract while the decent manufacturer who has employed over a thousand people and paid its’ taxes and provided employment for decent, law-abiding citizens are the folks they don’t want to attract.

I am at a loss to understand this concept.
