Chicago PD to stop responding to some calls

| February 4, 2013

Well, if you’re into property crimes, I guess Chicago is the place you want to operate, because according to an article from the Chicago tribune, the police are going to pic and choose which calls they will respond to in order to free up cops’ time;

The Chicago Police Department hopes to free up the equivalent of 44 officers a day by no longer dispatching cops for certain crimes, like burglaries and car thefts in which the offender is no longer at the scene and no one is in immediate danger.

Police confirmed the change, which takes effect Sunday. Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy told aldermen last year he was considering a move in that direction.

So, it’s like a reverse-Giuliani strategy wherein former NY Mayor Giuliani had cops cracking down on jay-walkers – if you watch the video, the police won’t be responding to anything that is a property crime…or if the criminal can leave the scene fast enough. So, let’s recap – the citizens can’t have any weapons to protect themselves or their homes and the cops won’t be coming. Yeah, no, I don’t see how any of that can be a problem, at all. Chicago should be crime-free within a week.

Only a Libtard would decide the answer to combating crime is to stop police from responding to it.

You idiot, it’s not complicated. Hire enough police to get shit under control. It’s literally that simple. Instead of multi million dollar fucking bike lanes how about providing what the government’s true purpose, which is security. In a just world these idiots would be fired.

Because burglary is always a property crime, until someone has the misfortune to be home when the burglar calls, or comes home and the burglar is still somewhere in the house.
I wonder, will Chicago blame the burglaries on those burglars who live outside the city and flood it with burglars?

Ex-PH2

I had not seen that on the news, but I don’t get the Trib. Nothing surprises me about this. The crime rate is rising in Chicago by the week. Mayor Rahmbo only gives a crap if he gets face time on TV so that he can ’emote’. And the police chief doesn’t think the people who pay taxes that go into the cops’ paychecks are important enough to do the ‘protect and serve’ bit.

I am SO glad I do not live in the city any more. I’ll have to call a friend of mine who lives in my old building and get his view of this.

PALADIN

Where ever Democrats are Majority = CHAOS.

Especially in “progressive ” Chicago.

Ex-PH2

This is a link to the WGN story, short and to the point.

There’s also this story about the most recent gun seizure:

Apologies in advance for the commercials.

Coming soon at a national level….

Code for People’s Republik of Chikago is under severe financial duress…y’know stuff like exhorbinant unsustainanble municipal pension system. Pretty soon homocides will be put on back burner…yeah, we’ll get there once rigor mortis sets in. Chikago never learns and keeps voting in liberal Democrats by overwhelming margins…can’t figure out why they run out of other people’s money and the well to do flee to other states.

The Dead Man

Salt Lake City and a few other districts out this way only respond to burglary calls if there’s a responsible party on scene. Went on vacation? Prepare to pay out the ass for privatized security. Compared to some of the others, they’re a pain in the ass to deal with.

This just floors me. I live SW of Chicagostan. I have family lives in the city, and most of my other relations live in the Greater Chicagostan Area. The first time someone calls in a burglary, and the PD don’t respond and that caller gets injured or worse killed, standby for the lawsuits. The Chicago Police also announced the seizure of 700 weapons. They said this was more than was seized in NY, which of course has tougher gun laws than Chicago. What a bunch of inept asshats.

CI Roller Dude

Wow, where I live in Calif, they’ve been doing that years. They will mail you a report form to fill out. I asked them if I should gather my own evidence and finger prints from the crime to.
I told them to keep their forms and go back to eating donuts.

Ex-PH2

Let’s not forget the $52 million in lawsuit awards for the judgments against the city in regard to torture by the ex-cop Burges, the now ex-cop Abbate who beat the crap out of bartender Karolina Obrycka, and police officers failing to follow the domestic violence act, resulting in the death of Henry Fenton, among other police failures and misconduct.

If we’re paying taxes that supposedly go into the police department, what are we getting in return for our money?

streetsweeper

Chicagostan….Love the name, lol.

Green Thumb

And “O’s” boy is the Mayor.

Go figure.

Guess the turd does not fall far from the bowl.

Stacy0311

Seems like they’d have a lot of time to respond to property crimes. It’s not like they’re out preventing homicides

WkAvngr211

Oh we should not forget the sucking black hole that is the worst school district in the country. Millions thrown away into the CPS with nothing to show for it. Chicago has a lot of wonderful things going for it, but the CPS, government, and the PD aren’t it.

Ex-PH2

Oh, yes, Beasely Academy, a charter school that two years ago had a $100,000 surplus in its account now has barely $14,000 , with the current principal of 2 years.

Programs have been cut, scores are slipping. Parents are more than visibly upset that the rapper JO who was hired to do a song for the school (which used to have a connection to the CSO) has videos of the rapper smoking pot, shooting guns, using extensive profanity, and doing other things that the parents find offensive.

All this since this principal Brasfield got her job there two years ago. And CPS is looking into it.

Flagwaver

This is just insane. Now, not only do the criminals have sole ownership of firearms within the city limits, but they have full run of the city as long as they only take your stuff. That is not justice, that is insanity.

The only reason I can see Chicago doing this is to try and let vigilantes begin forming so they can blame all the homicides and such on them.

A Proud Infidel

Chicago and Detroit give us a peek of the life that liberals want to inflict on the entire USA!

Hack Stone

Just think how much worse the crime rate would be if the mayor did not block Chick-Fil-A from opening in their city. It’s time for someone to remix The Night Chicago Died, the ultimate 1970’s guilty pleasure.

Badger

If someone steals your car, won’t your insurance company require a police report before they write you a check?
Way to go,Chicago.

rb325th

I see this ending well…

WOTN

Police Depts in many areas have become a municipal version of tax collectors. Property crime investigations cost more money than they bring in, while speeding and traffic citations pay more than they cost.

Hence, you won’t see the parking citation and traffic cop citations decrease. Those make money. And don’t expect Rahmbo’s protection detail to be reduced either.

And the police reports for burglary? Yeah, you’ll still be able to call them in. And if you find that counter-productive, well, that too will reduce the (reported) crime rate. So, yeah, “it will work” at reducing (reported) crime.

Twist

The next time I take my kids to Medieval Times in Schaumburg I’ll make sure I go around Chicago.

Ex-PH2

Twist, take them to the Bristol Renaissance Faire instead. Nowhere near Chicago, much more fun and they have jousting, too, and plenty of food.

SGT Kane

In Northern CA, the police stopped doing that years ago. Its one of the reasons I moved to NH. Woke up a week after getting home from my deployment to find “War Pig” (the A was the cutesy anarchy symbol) in red spray paint on my garage door. Police told me take a picture of it and upload it to their website with any information I had. They’d email me a police report I could give to my homeowners’ insurance. That was in ’09.

A couple years later someone broke into our car while we were at a water park. Stole my son’s iPhone (it was in a bag of swim gear they took). Police told us to not even bother to report it, unless our deductable was less than a $1,000. (Turns out that didn’t even really matter because insurance companies suck…but that is another story).

Last year, someone got pissed at my oldest daughter and took it out on our car tires. Again, go online and fill out a form…

And yet in that same time frame I received enough speeding tickets to put my license in jeopardy (75 in a 65, on the freeway, failure to stop at a stop sign (California “roll”), 35 in a school zone (at 6pm with no lights flashing), and an ambiguous “failure to obey a traffic directive”…and no I have no idea what that was even for).

Twist

I’ll have to try that out, Ex-PH2.

CHORGO

This reminds me of 3 years ago when many red states were closing their own health departments in their counties. It’s funny that comments above are blaming liberal democrats when red states like Texas have cut the school day for children shorter, eliminated many county health departments, still give giant subsidies to successful industries like oil, and other industries. Hmmmm lets see health department, or police doing on site paperwork for non threatening scenarios instead of at the station? I think I would go with a health department and more hours in the school day.

PintoNag

Well…if you want to file a police report, you will have to detain the perp.

I suspect that the city morgue and the local ED’s will see an uptick in their admissions.

UpNorth

“(R)ed states like Texas have cut the school day for children shorter, eliminated many county health departments,”. Well, in a lot of instances, school days get cut because teacher contracts demand it. And, the school board has a finite amount of money to work with, most of which gets eaten up by teacher salaries and benefits.
The county health department? I can’t recall the county health department doing anything around here, other than have press conferences to urge everyone to get a flu shot, and tell folks to make sure there’s no standing water for the mosquitos to breed in.

Hondo

CHORGO: it’s called living with your means, amigo. Keeps you out of bankruptcy court.

I’m afraid the whole nations has a helluva lesson on that coming. And it ain’t gonna be pretty to watch.

David

UpNorth – might want to be careful with throwing that “teacher salaries and benefits” statement around, here in Texas most teachers are not getting paid much more than they were years ago, but school admisnistrations have ballooned. The infratructure is awfully top-heavy.
