Suicide bomber at US embassy in Turkey

| February 1, 2013

Pax Tecum sends us a link to a BBC story about a suicide bomber outside the US embassy in Ankara, Turkey this morning. No group has taken reponsibility for the attack yet;

The US ambassador confirmed that a member of the embassy’s Turkish staff had been killed.

Video shows damage to a checkpoint although reports say there was no damage inside the embassy.

One other person was wounded by the blast, in an area also home to other diplomatic missions.

Embassy staff were taken to secure rooms in the building, a reporter told Turkish channel NTV.

Fox News says that one woman was seen being loaded into an ambulance;

The bomb appeared to have exploded inside the security checkpoint at the side entrance of the embassy, but did not do damage inside the embassy itself. Footage showed that the door had been blown off its hinges and debris littered the ground and across the road. An Associated Press journalist saw a body in the street in front of an embassy side entrance.

[…]

The police official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in line with government rules, said police had examined security cameras around the embassy and had identified two people who could have been the suicide bomber.

Well, at least casualties were relatively low this time, but it will be interesting to see how John Kerry will react to this on his first day in office as the Secretary of State. I expect he’ll be surrendering by lunch.

Probably the fault of the National Rifle Association, or G.W. Bush, or lack of funding from the eeeevile Republican House of Representatives.

I was told if I voted for John McCain, that the Islamists would hate us and try to kill us all. Guess they were right.

Kerry will throw a protest with Fonda and say it’s our fault for being there.

But the whole world loves Obama, his election was supposed to bring an end to such things.

Pax Tecum was my signature (Peace with You), but it’s all good; you posted that REALLY fast.

Twist

He’ll be for embassy security before he is against it.

I blame Coca Cola for their insensitive commercial on this one.

Sounds like the check point did it’s job. I don’t believe there is anyway to stop a dedicated suicide bomber.

Oh well, cross Istanbul off my to-do list.
