“Assault weapons” are sexist
A couple of you folks sent me links to “The Blaze” in regards to the comment that Carolyn McCarthy, Congresswoman from New York’s 4th District made in regards to those scary-looking black rifles. It seems that the elected representative who is a proponent of women in combat positions in the military doesn’t think that women are especially equipped to handle scary black rifles, but they can handle regular weapons just fine, at least according to what she told blivet-headed Peirs Morgan on his show, the other day;
PIERS MORGAN: I have an interview coming up with two young women who wrote a piece in which they said they wanted the rights of the AR-15 weapon at home because they feared they would be attacked and they wanted a gun that would guarantee they would murder or would kill their attacker. How do you respond to that particular argument, which is they believe under their second amendment right they should be allowed an AR-15?
CAROLYN MCCARTHY: I will tell you, if you talk to professionals, hunters and certainly sportsmen, they’ll tell you that’s not the gun to use. A rifle is more accurate. It’s certainly easier for a woman to be able to do that.
I’d like to hear her explanation of the mechanics of her contention. So, since she opposes scary-looking rifles, does she think that the military should be teaching women to fight with bolt-action or lever action rifles in their new roles as combat soldiers? Or maybe she’s just unaware of what women are capable of – or doesn’t really care when she’s making idiot political statements.
Of course, later, Piers has on his show the two young women who schooled Morgan on the advantage of having large capacity magazines (Newsbusters link);
MORGAN: Explain to me why you believe you need an AR-15 style assault rifle.
CELIA BIGELOW, DIR. OF CAMPUS ACTION, AMERICAN MAJORITY ACTION: Well, I personally bought one for self defense. One, they’re lightweight. They’re quite accurate. I can shoot them much more accurately than a handgun or a shotgun.
And three, these — I’m going to pull a David Gregory right here and I can hold up my 30-round magazine right here, because it’s actually legal in Virginia. But I want a gun that can hold a lot of ammo because if I’m faced with an intruder or multiple intruders that come into my home, I want to make sure I have enough ammo to get the job done, especially if they’re armed.
So I want — they essentially serve as an insurance mechanism to make sure that I have enough rounds, that if multiple intruders come in and they’re armed, I don’t have to take the time to reload.
Bigelow is a 22-year-old with no military service and she seems perfectly capable and comfortable firing a semi-automatic weapon. Maybe McCarthy is just a pussy.

Morgan actually said that the women wanted an AR-15 because “they feared they would be attacked and they wanted a gun that would guarantee they would murder or would kill their attacker[?]” What a ma-roon. I am quite confident that the women do not intend to murder anyone. He really does need to be horse whipped all the way back to wherever he came from. We have enough native morons. We don’t need to import them.
Sounds like Piers Morgan has his own pre-crime set up going from Minority Report and can foresee the all future deadly force incidents which is why he knows what law abiding citizens should be armed with and how many bullets they need.

“A rifle is more accurate”? She sounds like she may have read a book or had a fleeting conversation with someone who knew something about weapons,,,, then she cherry-picked the facts and used them as fit her agenda.
What she is using is the fact that an actual military weapon that is capable of firing full auto or on three round burst doesn’t have nearly the control over accuracy one the first round is fired due to muzzle climb. These weapons are already illegal to own. A semiautomatic rifle ( such as the AR-15)can be accurately aimed between rounds. She needs to leave gun talk to the grown-ups and go back to playing with barbies.’
They are starting to show how their arguments are convoluted and made up as they go. They can’t make up their minds, the weapon is to easy to shoot no wait it is too hard to shoot. The weapon is so accurate we need to stop selling it no wait it is so inaccurate compared to other rifles and that’s why we should ban it. Do they realize there is a thing called internet where everything said is forever.
BTW: since they are trying to ban all these scary looking black rifles are they now all racists?
Yeah, the accuracy thing falls apart when you understand that the Army takes people who have never fired a weapon their lives and within a few weeks has them hitting man-sized targets at 300 meters with iron sights – a distance at which most hunters need a scope to engage prey with any accuracy.
First few weeks my wife and I were together I took her shooting. My AR15 just adds something extra sexy to an already sexy woman. She loves that rifle and feels more comfortable with that than her own pistol she carries. Plus an AR15 just adds some thing extra sexy to an already sexy woman. Oh, I said that already..

Dumbasses need to hold their mouths when talking about guns. Our house was on the historic tour a few years back and a lady was admiring my 300 WinMag (probably because the wood is pretty). As I started a conversation about the vintage walnut gun display she noticed my M4 and almost lost her breath.
“Now that’s some serious gun there!” she almost exclaimed.
I didn’t bother trying to explain. She had been conditioned to fear the M4 and no idea how ignorant she was.

I laugh at how she referenced an AR-15 as to not being a rifle. Sorry, that’s exactly what it is, as is the select-fire M4/M16 variant. They are all rifles.

Seems like some years back that there was discussion that the M-16 came into service simply so that women could handle it easier. I dunno. When I went through basic, women did not get to play with guns but the men were already using the M-16. I had to wait until tech school to fire one. And it was an utterly lovely experience. It remains my favorite all around rifle.

The only guns that are ‘easy’ to handle/shoot are recoilless. Is it accurate to say that Ms. McCarthy has rocks in her head? And is there any way to shut Piers Morgan up?

When I “zeroed” my M16A1s and A2s over 20 years, at 25 meters, I could fire 3 rounds where the holes were touching. When I started training cops to shoot them in the late 90’s, they were surprised at how easy the AR type rifle was to shoot and more accurate than any shotgun or handgun.
These lefties would have had heart attacks and dropped dead if they had seen us today. We had a lovely day in the mountains, practicing our 2nd Amendment right with at least 25 different weapons including a couple of AR-15s. I personally tried 5 different handguns, my daughter’s .22, and my son’s M4.
Family Gun Club – around 4000 rounds, zombies and clays – zero.
@Jonn, I’m right there with you. The Corps took me from never shooting, to plinking man-sized targets accurately at 500 yards, with iron sights after only a week of theory and 4 days of shooting.
When McCarthy said “certain hunters and sportsman”, she really meant, “the imaginary people I made up to sound like I know what I’m talking about”.

No, they are not. You can fill out the appropriate paperwork with BATFE, pay a $200 tax, and you may own machine guns, silencers, and sawed-off shotguns. Been that way since 1934.
