NRA statement on Biden Kangaroo “discussion”

| January 10, 2013

This is from the NRA statement in regards to their “discussion” with the Biden Commission;

We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment. While claiming that no policy proposals would be “prejudged,” this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners – honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans. It is unfortunate that this Administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation’s most pressing problems. We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen. Instead, we will now take our commitment and meaningful contributions to members of congress of both parties who are interested in having an honest conversation about what works – and what does not.

This is my shocked face.

It’s not Biden’s intention to do something as much as it is to appear to be doing something. Of course, the Federal Government can’t do anything constructive about school shootings, but the one thing they can do is make more useless laws against those who would abide by the law.

We’ve seen the hand-wringing crowd troll through this blog over the last few weeks and they’re so intellectually vacant that the only thing they can do is parrot the call for banning scary-looking weapons. Even Gabby Giffords, whom I used to respect has taken up the gun control mantle by prostituting herself and blaming the NRA for making gun control a “third rail” issue.

The thing that the Democrats forget is that the NRA represents over 4 million voters. It’s not a lobby for the gun companies, it’s a lobby for gun-owning American voters. Do the Democrats remember what happened to them in the 90s when they made guns an issue? Giffords says that she wants to match the money that the NRA pours into campaigns, but money doesn’t always equal votes.

Yeah, I don’t think that Giffords is taking up the gun control mantle, after watching her visit to Newtown and watching the interviews afterward, she’s being led around, and her hubby is doing the speaking. Sadly, I doubt that she forms many coherent thoughts. But she does make for good symbolism for the left.

NHSparky

Exactly–what Giffords doesn’t understand is that gun owners have been demonized for DECADES now, and despite the literally tens of millions of dollars the anti-gun lobby has raised and spent, what has it achieved? People see the money being spent restricting their rights and get pissed enough to get their asses out from in front of the idiot box and to the ballot box.

To the same extent, when politicians try to restrict one of the most basic rights enumerated in the Constitution, they rightly get pecker-smacked for their stupidity. Yet still they try, or at least the ones who know their jobs are safe will keep trying.

If Dianne Feinstein was up for election in a fairly close state like New Hampshire in 2014 (as Jeanne Shaheen is), would she be pushing such radical gun confiscation legislation? Come to think of it, Senator Shaheen has been pretty mum on the issue thus far. Gee, I wonder why?

Joe

Gay marriage used to be unthinkable – now look where we are. Repealing/rewriting the 2nd used to be unthinkable. It just takes time…..

NHSparky

Gay marriage IS still unthinkable in most religions, Joe.

There was an Episcopal bishop (openly gay) who allowed gay marriages in his parrish in NH.

And he lost over half his congregation. Gee, go figure. People have morals and stick to them. Who knew?

And yeah–you try rewriting the 2nd Amendment and see how far you get with that even in your little ‘burb, Joe.

Rob

Uncle Joe can take that legislation he wants to cram down our throats and shove it up his own ass instead.

I’m getting increasingly tired of politicians dictating to us like we’re their subjects. The hell we are, they serve us, and I am telling them to fuck off and go to hell.

68W58

Hey Joe-gay marriage has not a damn thing to do with my rights. If you want to expand, not restrict, people’s rights I’m with you. Otherwise, you, a box of dicks, some assembly required.

UpNorth

Joey, you keep forgetting, amend the Constitution requires 3/4 of the states to ratify. Maybe you ought to sit in on some of those classes instead of changing the product in the tampon machines in the girl’s bathrooms.

@3: here’s a little something to chew on COLUMBINE STUDENT’S FATHER 12 YEARS LATER!! Guess our national leaders didn’t expect this. On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful. They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript: “Since the dawn of creation there has been both good &evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers. “The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain’s heart. “In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA – because I don’t believe that they are responsible for my daughter’s death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel’s murder I would be their strongest opponent… Read more »

In case it has escaped the folks here (which it hasn’t), the only “discussion” on this issue is happening on blogs like TAH.

The dicussion in Washington is over. We will receive their edicts shortly.

rb325th

I agree with #9, it is coming soon. The left is not listening to reason, never have on this. Whatever their reasons they want gun ownership either eliminated or severely restricted.
Before the very last body was picked up off the floor of that school… one of which was the niece of a dear friend of mine… the left was clamoring to get the talking points in line, to fire up the machine and destroy the 2nd Amendment.

FltMedic

There is about 95% of me that hopes this sets off another “civil” war. I wrack my brain but swear I can’t see any other way to get our country back to its former greatness. A purging of progressivists needs to happen. We need to get back to a Constitutional Republic.

BK

How does one fight back against anything that comes out of this, once it’s policy?

The same “just follows orders” the drive-by trolls keep throwing out there seems more likely to occur on the enforcement-side of the edict. Most Americans still defer to (seemingly) legitimate authority. It seems so difficult to rebel when most of the edicts end up taking place at point of purchase, point of licensing; i.e. there’s no opportunity for real opposition without resembling a serious, possibly traitorous insurrection. They’re all too skilled at implementing these things at this point without providing much of an opportunity for massive civil disobedience.

Living in Israel

I’m seeing the phrase “used to respect” being used rather frequently here, McChrystal being an especially memorable case.

Disappointment seems to come easily with the latest crop of “leaders.”

PintoNag

@12 Short answer. Right now, we continue to use the laws we have. And the ballot box. The other thing to do is learn as much as you can about dropping off the grid. That’s for future reference.

FltMedic

@12.

Read Robert Heinlein’s “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress” and “Sixth Column”

cannoncocker

Joe, that was one of the dumbest analogies you’ve ever made. Try again.

Just Plain Jason

If only Joe’s parent had stuck to anal sex…

DaveO

PintoNag is 100% correct. The discussion will never happen in Washington. The question is how much leverage does this issue give Obama, or will his troops in Congress be required to toe the line and vote to confiscate guns.

Joe Manchin is safe for six years.

UpNorth

Jason, thanks, now I have to mop up the coffee all over the floor.

Just Plain Jason

I aim to get people to laugh…

Old Trooper

@16: I don’t know if it was the dumbest ever (he’s made a lot of them), but it sure ranks up there in the top 5.

NHSparky

Bottom line, Biden is going to make some seriously effed up “recommendations” to the President over the weekend, and next Tuesday (unless I heard incorrectly) we’ll know what kind of bullshit the adminstration is going to want to shove down our throats.

They won’t get even a fraction of it done, mind you, but not for lack of trying.

Detn8r

I believe the current administration and its cronies are banking on us to give lip service to any thought of disobeying their orders. I truly think they are so arragant that the thought of another civil war is just that, a thought. That the sheep (us) will follow their lead, baaing all the way, but do nothing to stand our ground. Unfortunately, I look around the nation and somewhat have to think they may be right.

Will state authorities arrest and/or fire on citizens standing up for their rights?

Will our military go against their oath, enter our homes and/or fire on the American citizens they have sworn to protect?

I am concerned that there will not be enough patriotic, educated individuals to stand our ground and take the nation back.

We have to remember, Hitler was an elected official too.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

@22 Right, they will make up a bunch of stupid recommendations to appear to be “doing something” about violence. Even if they enact anything it won’t be retroactive, and it won’t remove a single current weapon from the street. Nor will it be able to stop a single shooting from happening again. Then the president can go on TV and lecture everyone about how he is trying to be a bipartisan guy but nobody will work with him….

ron

@23 yes the state authorities will arrest/fire on citizens. yes, the military will follow wrongful orders (remember that training section?) fire on us and enter our homes, at least in sufficient numbers to make it problematic. you are right to be concerned. schools no longer teach critical thinking skills, and reading comprehension is terribly low across a broad swath of the populace. add to that the difficulties in motivating people to put down their video games, get off their rear ends, and stand up—what do you see happening? remember waco and ruby ridge.

Twist

It always amazes me when Liberals claim that there is no way that armed civilians can stand up to the Military. Civilian gun owners outnumber the Military by something like 80 to 1. If you count only door kickers instead of support jobs that ratio skyrockets.

NHSparky

Twist–I look at it this way–Posse Comitatus notwithstanding, would you as a Guard/Reservist/AD soldier or any level of LEO WANT to go out there and try do disarm 1/3 of the nation? And I’m not just talking about fear of injury or death aspect, but these people KNOWING who they’re going after, whose only crime was suddenly being in the sights of a tyrranical regime (which is all the government would be at that point?)

Never happen. We can’t get 12 million illegals out of this country, no way in hell the government is going to take 300 million guns.

Detn8r

Ron, I remember the training. And I think you are correct. There are not enough active military left that believes and understands their oath and the Constitution. At least, very few that think and believe in what I served for. Ruby Ridge and Waco, black and green “ninjas”, have and will be used. But, why waist a loyal dog when an un manned drone can do the job. This administration seems to love that tactic.

Twist, we do outnumber them. But, the green and black “ninjas”, do not belong to DOD, I do believe a lot of them answer to the DHS dragon. Which has yet, not made much of a roar in the ongoing drama.

My wife and I have talked quite a bit on this and I really hope she is correct in her thinking, that nothing will come of this more than saber rattling. I do not hold much to that thought, however.

Detn8r

NHSparky, never thouhgt of it in that light, very good point.

Spade

“It always amazes me when Liberals claim that there is no way that armed civilians can stand up to the Military.”

This always amuses me. We’ve been in Afghanistan for how long again?

DLM

@30, I think King George thought the same thing. We see how that played out now.

ron

@27–while your point is valid, you should also consider that we are not getting illegals out of the country, because most of the gov’t doesn’t want them out. as for @30, you’re also right in your reference to the stan, and you’re probably not old enough for this, please pardon me if you are, but the VC were not particularly pleasant to deal with either. and again, i was not a grunt, where it was really bad, just an MP, which for most of the time is a REMF. anybody who is armed can make things damn interesting, but in the end a good many of them will still be dead.

David

Jason- I rather thought Joe’s parents never changed away from it, based on the results.

UpNorth

@25, and those who posted following that post, remember Lon Horiuchi? He’s the Feeb sniper who killed Randy Weaver’s wife, and wounded Randy Weaver and Kevin Harris. The only crime that Vicki Weaver committed was apparently holding her baby.
Horiuchi is a graduate of West Point, class of 76, and served as an infantry officer. So, yeah, there are some out there that will fire on citizens for little reason.

David

@34, during the Veteran’s Marches following WWI, note who the Army commander was who directed fire on the marchers. Think it’s safe to say his career didn’t suffer.

Just Plain Jason

Honestly I don’t think that the military would be willing to start kicking down doors in homes across America. Sorry I just don’t see any soldiers going hey lets conduct operations on American Soil. If a rebellion does ever occur…I can see much of our military sitting it out.

David

interesting sidebar, several articles today about gun classes for teachers in Ohio and Texas which are heavily over-enrolled by teachers saying things like “if it comes to a choice between defending my students and getting fired, fire me”. Also that the two highest-record months for gun purchase background checks were November and December, with almost 5 MILLION checks (2 million in November, 2.8 million December) For a country where liberal pundits say ‘EVERYone wants guun control’ this sure looks like a hell of a lot of people voting with their wallets.

USMCE8Ret

All good points. I don’t think the military wouldn’t just stand down, I think more would come of it. I’m mindful that there are still institutions out there that will address the fact when Barry and his administration finally steps over the line and violates the law. We should talk about impeachment for violating the Constitution, the very document he swore an oath, to protect and defend. In the end, I hope I’m proven right that everything that is happening in this country – all at the same time – is circumstantial, and that it is all saber rattling and a diversion. I’ll keep praying in any case.
