Army’s newest troop
10-year-old Khalil Quarles has always loved the Army even before cancer interrupted his young life. So some folks at Fort Meade, MD, worked fairly hard to help him become a soldier, according to WBAL;
Khalil, 10, thought the highlight of his day Wednesday would be chatting on Skype for the first time with a soldier stationed in Kuwait, but it got even better.
“I’ve got my Army guys outside waiting for you,” the soldier told Khalil over the Internet.
Khalil went outside to find a crowd and soldiers waiting to fulfill his dream — to enlist in the U.S. Army.

Now there’s a young soldier who knows what’s what. He wants to be a soldier to protect others. All of his problems in his 10 years and he’s thinking of others? Outstanding!
Freaking Outstanding story!!
Outfreakingstanding!!
God bless you Khalil!
Hooah! That is one of the best feel good stories of the year.
I KNEW Santa Claus was real. Great story. What a find young man.
Now we just have to get him into the BDE commanders welcome brief, SHARP training, suicide prevention, POSH, put him on the additional duty roster, CQ… Poor kid.
Just wanted to put this back on top of the comments. I think that this young soldier should be immediately assigned to the Pentagon to remind the brass just why soldiers serve.
I second that motion 2-17 Air Cav
2-17 Air Cav – That is the best idea I have heard in a very LONG time. Might put some perspective in their lame back sides!
(sniff) All of a sudden there’s a lot of dust in the air here. (sniff) (eyes water)
I love this country …. these stories make me proud!
@11 Me too, these stories seem to come at the right moments as well…dealing with liars and selfish tools every day gets tiresome…it’s remembering there are a lot of young people like this…what a great kid, and good on everyone involved for showing their sterling characters as well. Hooahh indeed!!
Screw allergies, stories like this make me tear up like a little bitch. 😉
Kid’s got it together more at ten than most adults ever will. Good on him.
Too cool.
Way to go.
AirCav — Great idea. I would vote for that.
Who cut the onions?
I just want to give a great big thank you to his parents. Great kids like don’t happen by accident. They deserve credit for raising a fine young man with morals and true character.
I say we send his mom to the pentagon.
-50 badass points to anyone who cried. -100 to me for getting it under control and losing it again. I must be on my period.
